New red-orange dot approaching the bubble at 0.8ly per minute-- Thargoid mothership?

Could be the speed issue, while you drop it already changes its position ;)
By the past, people tried to drop before to see body. Nothing to see there...
These hidden signals (SmallBody or comets, and now HyperbolicOrbiter) are not implemented in-game.
For HyperbolicOrbiter, it think it will be implemented later under another name.

Everything we see in Elite outside of places where we can remove helmets and life-support gear, we see through displays with sensors. It's not entirely outside the bounds of reason that our ship sensors can detect the emissions of whatever seems to be moving without being able to identify it.
It has no emissions that can possibly reach you unless it started its journey hundreds of years ago. But as mentioned, if it is a part of the narrative story then we need to be able to see it.

Which sends us down the same rabbit hole as always. Bug? Or feature?

Or maybe in this case, a feature that is bugged?
Engine does not support interstellar no-jump move. But they need it for story. So they decided to simulate look by existing tools. Closest like are random POI happening. So they made custom "random" poi appearing for commander. Randoms pois do reset to initial state on relog, that is how people farm mats.

I've decided to just park on a planet here and wait until the weekly update to see if it changes. I don't expect anything new on it until tomorrow. By then the level of DOOM will have intensified anyway.

I was saying this very thing last night in some dude's twitch chat and he came at me for "kinda being pretty negative." I gave up and left.
Yep. I suspect it's only moving in the Skybox when being viewed by individual Commanders. It's not actually physically moving through Space toward Systems in real-time, that'll probably happen on a daily or weekly Server Tick (as in, the Devs will just move and resize the asset in the Skybox). It's a flat sprite after all. The only chance we'll get to see it up close is with a fully rendered 3D model within a System.

I don't think it's in the skybox, it seems to be a billboarded sprite of some sort way off in the distance. It rotates with your camera and is visible through planets.

There's a hidden signal in Oochorrs UF-J c11-0. You can find it by going to that system, searching for Oochorrs UF-J c11-2228224 in the galmap, then targetting the result. It's about 21kls from the arrival star and moves quickly enough that it's hard to drop out at (without supercruise assist anyway.)

Funnilly enough it's aligned perfectly with the anomaly (until you get close, then it starts drifting a bit)

Is that anomalous POI a failed comet or something similar...it may have nothing to do with the other, visible, anomaly...

Oops, ninja'd...
