New Ship Anaconda Mk.2

And it makes in-game sense. Very successful ships would get copied by the competitors.

*dreaming*

great idea.

of course the benchmark tests of those succesfull ships would have been cheated, so they all would underperform in the game.

while the cheap copies would have random malfunctions :D

We also need a new combat ship on par with the FdL.

Why? What does it add, if the FDL already does the same thing?

The point of new ships is to make them different from the existing ones, surely? Not just to power-creep existing top-of-the range designs.

I always liked that idea of other manufacturers giving their take on other ship designs, especially since its mentioned here and there in the ships in game descriptions (e.g the Saun Kruger version of the FDL).

A couple of weeks ago I drew a similar thing, a mash up of the iClipper with the FDL

A combat/multirole ship, bigger and badder than everything we have now.. but there's one catch.. it will be extremely difficult to get. A grind so hard and long that people trying to grind for it will lose all interest in the game. Make it available only when the player has gained certain unknown factors of reputation that can only be acquired from playing the game for at least a year. Make it a true endgame ship, for instance by requiring triple Elite in order to get it.

So I'm hoping this goes well for many people. I've been looking into how the condas, Vette, Cutter are built internally . I was hoping to this in all degrees around the bubble. We need a new ship to come out again. Plus more specifically We need more ships in the game, 30 is not enough and wanting to see different ships come out is more appealing .
Please help in a positive way for the Anaconda Mk.2 here.

Everybody wants more ships I think.
Ships are the lifeblood of the game and I am always very excited when a new design is added to the ED universe.
Well... most of the time. I am not very interested in the Beluga at all, but others might be, so that's fine with me.

It would be great to have a few new ships. I don't see the need for a new Anaconda version though, and from your post I gather you only want one because you want more jump range. There are already different ways in the game to improve your jumprange.

I want more ships in certain niches and preferably new designs.
For example I would like a competitor for the Python.
Currently the Python is king in it's medium pad niche.
I would love a Gutamaya or a Lakon competitor to be in the game.

I also would like to see competition for the Vulture and the FDL. Both are iconic combat ships that sit lonely in their respective niches.

True I think the low end and the very top end (minus the panther) is fairly well fleshed out. The lack of choice comes in the middleground between the fed ships/Clipper at around 40mil and the Anacondas etc at the upper level. In between there's the FDL, Python T9 and Orca holding that section up all alone.

The Anaconda is a great ship as is. I just sold mine twice because it's so damn ugly.
Wish it had the T9's "I mean business" look about it.

Besides if the Anaconda was made better 75% of the player base might start using it so FD would feel a need to "nerf" it then and you would be back to the original again.

Especially when doing missions or ranking the king in the house is the Python.
It is the only ship with that size hold, that many slots, that can dock at every station in the game.
With the Python you never have to say no to missions because you cannot land there, or because you can't store the cargo, or because you can't do any of the jobs on offer. It can haul, it can fight, it can go everywhere and be modified to do anything.

A ship of this type really should have competition.
I think every shipbuilder out there would want to create something that can do what a Python can do.

Good news OP! More ships are coming. More ships are always coming.

Panther Clipper and Dolphin are probably on their way sooner or later. There is a suspicion the Krait and Gecko will make an appearance at some point.

I wouldn't expect an Anaconda Mk2 though. The Anaconda is already a great all round craft, if they did a Mk2 for any improvements it would have to be gimped in some way, c.f: Cobra Mk4, Viper Mk4, DBE, Keelback, FAS and FGS. Variants and next ones always lose something in return for gains.

Looking at the current parameters that change between ships FD will quickly run out of possible ship size/role/hardpoint/internal compartment combinations. There needs to be something added that differentiates ships more. I gave an idea in the suggestion forum a long time ago saying that ships should have built in bonuses depending on role, manufacturer etc. I think then you could add a lot of real variation to ships and substantially increase the number of possible future ships as well as create some interesting player choices. For instance my FDL is a bounty hunting combat ship so it could get a bonus to KWS scan time and increased ammo clip/lower reload time or carry special modules that can hold extra ammo. There is so much you do with this that would be fun for players.

The only thing the conda needs is two size 1 slot for scanners. Maybe change a single class 4 into a size 2 + 1 + 1 to offset the functionality. For the rest it seems to hold enough spaces for it to do litteraly anything and everything in the game.

Hasn't the Boa been mentioned as a possible/likely upcoming ship? Seems like it was fairly large in elite 84. Maybe that's your conda mk2 in spirit

I haven't heard Frontier mention it. I've pushed for it every time a thread pops up though as it'd be a great ship to fill in the gap between a Cutter and a Panther Clipper. :)

No more Mk IIs please.

I think with the introduction of the ship kits and the Engineers the simple Mark 'IIs' like the Cobra and Viper variants are done for.
The Cobra Mk IV and Viper Mk IV models could have easily been ship kits themselves.

What's that Flipper? The developers have locked you in the basement since 2.2 just to be able to introduce a new ship for 2.3?

Greenpeace will hear of this! [mad]

EDIT: Gecko! How could I forget the Gecko?
