New Ship - Cobra MkIV functional clone

Some players missed out on the Cobra MkIV & while it's not a great ship it has some benefits that can make it desirable.

It has more internal module slots than any other small pad ship,
It can potentially carry more more cargo any other small pad ship,
It's the cheapest ship with 8 internal module slots, making it a good mining ship.

If we were to have small pad only docks, the Cobra MkIV would become a meta-ship, a mini-Python if you like.

I propose a functionally identical but different looking ship be made available for all to purchase. A mini-Asp, a maxi-Diamondback, that kind of idea, but all it's stats would be identical to the Cobra MkIV.

This retains the Cobra MkIV's exclusivity but overcomes any advantage gained or lost by making it available to all. The Cobra MkIV paintjobs etc would be completely unaffected, everyone (whether they have access to the Cobra MkIV or not) gets to enjoy the objective benefits of owning one, overcoming the exclusivity deal.

Or you know... Just release the MK IV and laugh at people who get salty because the normies can now play with all the toys?

On a serious note, FD would do the best thing not to mess with Mk IV exclusivity but introduce Mk IIIA or V or whatever as a normal upgrade of Mk III.

OP, I support your idea 100%.

For me, all I want upgraded in MkIII are those two small hartpoints at the wingtips. Place them above the cockpit as in Mk IV and I'd have my dream ship. Keep the agility and speed of Mk III, don't touch that. That's what Cobra III is.

No, the exclusives will laugh at you normies for never not ever having the best ship in the game :D

If you get so offended at the idea that someone else will get to see the same pixels as you, I can only feel sorry for you.

EDIT: I have access to the ship.

"Why do you want to see the same pixels as me? Why are you so offended you don't see them? I feel sorry for you twice." Is this the kind of conversation you want?

And no, you don't.

Yes, I do.

*If your last sentence is referring to my access to ship. Apologies if I misunderstood.

I really like the Cobra MkIII and the Asp Explorer, and would love to have a ship between the two - faster than an AspX but with a larger carrying capacity & better weapon grouping than the Cobra MkIII. Sadly both the AspS & Cobra MkIV (and Viper MkIV to a lesser extent) fell short of my hopes.

However, that's not what this proposal is about. Nor is it about annoying people, the haves or the have nots.

It's about overcoming what I see as the main obstacle to allowing small pad only docks, and allowing any player who wants the functionality of the (imo not very desirable) Cobra MkIV without FDev breaking their 'exclusive forever' statement.

I like the Hauler & Adder ideas, a LWB (Long Wheelbase) hauler would be cool ;)

Yes, this "small pad only docks" of yours are cool. And yes, Mk IV would be the king there - but only in haulage. Quite frankly, it's a turd. OK, you can engineer the crap out of it - but even all maxed out it's worse than A Graded Cobra III. And when you G5 the hell of Mk III it's a dream ship. Mk IV beats it only in internals, all else is meh.

In reality, Mk V would be the sweet spot. It would solve all our problems, haves and have nots. I've insisted so hard in other thread on exlcusivity because it has to stay so. Grownups, money deals, promises, the breach of thrust, those things. But a new Cobra Mk Whatever as a normal ship would solve it all. We can have our exclusive turd because exclusivity means what it means and has to stay that way for any future deals, and we won't use it but will engineer the Mk V and enjoy, all of us.

Win-Win for all.

EDIT
It has to be called Cobra whatever. To ease the tensions.

Sounds like a "MK.IV for the masses"
IF there will be ever small pad only installations, this idea has a solid ground. Benefits for all but exclusivity protected. I just think that it's again a scenario that never will happen :|

But for god's sake please:
Not another Lakon cockpit !!!!!!!!!!:x[down]

No no no, it has to be named Cobra Mk Whatever. Only that way we can defuse the situation.

In all seriousness, while I'd like to see both a Cobra MkV and a Cobra MkI in the game, if it's functionally identical to the MkIV why would Falcon DeLacey produce such a ship? It could be another Cobra but I think it would make more in-universe sense for another manufacturer to introduce a competing ship.

I agree with you on a couple of points here:

Mini Python, 100%, that is the way I see it. Like a practise model for the bigger ship.

Also: I use mine as a passenger runner, three cabins and 20 berths; it is a great little credit maker for less than half a million re-buy. What's not to like? Apart from the boost speed of your average tortoise, just like the Python. :D

I also have to say that when I brought the L.P., I believed, the Cobra IV would be waiting for me somewhere, like the Friday paint jobs and not an exclusive I had to buy. I don't really hold with exclusive 'offers' as they are like 'pay to play' add ons. Yes it is nice to be told, 'you are getting a paint job because.....whatever', but to have it as an offer: No thanks. Using the word; exclusive, in the sales pitch, has unfortunately, forced it to become that and to break that contract, could cost FD a lot of issues.

Nice ship, bad marketing, in my opinion.

They could put another Cobra into the game, any time they wanted: As long as it was not identical to the current mark IV.

You're right & I'm in favour of that, but that isn't what this proposal is about (completely the opposite in fact ;))
