New Ship for Elite - great idea.

A great idea would be a fully fledged guardian ship with guardian modules, combat focused specially against Thargoids... just take all my credits and mats already!

i like the idea of asymmetrical ships. though, having the bridge off center could make getting through the mail slot challenging the first several times.
That's true. If the cockpit were offset. You could have the cockpit in the middle, with an asymmetrical hull around it. Kinda like a B-wing but cooler.
Although, offset cockpits...

I have supported this idea many times. I think its time we got more than SLF's, as I don't even use them.

Well that name won't work, what about the Anilius or the hog nose, or rattler or the fox or boa or copperhead or pine or mamushi? I mean, stick with the naming convention dawg!

Vampire Diamondback. I think the OP is just trying to get their name in the game :p
On the above suggestions, Copperhead might be a good name for a fighter-type ship. Or maybe Danger Noodle Mk5

Danger Noodle Mk5
I usually try to be at least somewhat serious when naming my ships, but I will now be naming my next ship with a snake-themed name "Danger Noodle" with the appropriate Mk # designation. I've got a very strict naming convention going on my alt account, but my main account doesn't have a Mamba yet....

Hey guys/gals I happened to stumble across this post , which came from a friend of mine , and I think it is a brilliant idea. It is called the Vampire MkIV Diamondback. As crazy as it sounds , the actual design itself is brilliant because this is exactly what the game needs. The sharp edges , the wingspan , hardpoint layout , all aspects would bring a much desired kick the game needs considering the delay of the carrier ships. Frontier owes its loyal customer base atleast something in return for staying with the game , playing everyday , in order to keep the game alive. Most of these people are actually pvp style gameplay individuals. So from my perspective , something like this even the name itself , is a brilliant idea and should be brought to the table.

What exactly enthuses you about this idea? You want a pvpv fighter that is better than current fighters? or... what is it exactly. What is the 'kick' you talk about?

Personally I am not at all excited about the looks of the ship (too much atmospheric fighter plane vibe), but perhaps when adapted for ED it might look more appropriate.
The name is definitely wrong. 'Diamondback' is already taken for a completely different model.

There are many ships in lore FD could add.

Agreed

Saying FD should add a ship because they owe us? Get a grip.

Indeed, sounds a bit too entitled.

But there is a defecit in the number of ships in game. Star Citizen has hundreds and its not even finished yet. Elite has... 38 (give or take an SLF)

FDev could sell us a few jpegs. :)

I'd rather see more SRV types. When last I counted we had only one.
Or a greater diversity in space station models. I think that would truly impact our experience of the Elite universe. Currently all bubble systems feel too samey in general.

I am not against new ships, but other stuff is vastly more important.

Star Citizen doesn't really have any ships until it's a real game. Meantime, it has the idea of ships, which it sells to people; you can actually use ED's ships.

Also, "hundreds" is incorrect and at best misleading. It has more than 100 ships, but many are variants and all of them still exist, and I cannot stress this enough, in a game that doesn't exist yet.

what do you mean 'doesn't exist'? you can play star citizen, right?

iirc SC has 81 unique ships (or ideas of ships, I can't run SC on my laptop and can't tell which is which from their website) and anything after that is an existing ship with a fresh coat of paint and/or a slightly different loadout.

Also, the 81 unique "ships" in SC includes every single vehicle that is (or will be) playable, so it cannot be directly compared to the 38 playable ships in ED unless you take SLFs and the SRV into account for a total of 43 playable "ships" (the 3 Guardian SLFs only count as 1 ship).

Personally, I think we have too many ships, not enough purposes. I don't advocate for purpose-built ships with loadouts that can't be altered. Rather,I think the problem is in the foundations of outfitting your ship. A virtual model on a 3d grid to drag and drop your modules into (green areas mean yes, red areas mean no) rather than logarithmic "size 1 holds 2, size 2 holds 4" bays would allow you to make use of wasted space and introduce balancing concerns. Would have gone great with cargo loading before they spoiled everyone and let that genie out of the bottle. Would have gone great with space legs too. The extra freedom and agency wouldn't solve the problem of redundancy though, just address it a little, depending on the amount of customization possible.
This game will never have enough features or add the additional detail needed to give every ship a job. Some will just be staying on your couch forever.

Thats true as well. There's not much to do between explo, trade and PvE. And anything else that's a cross-over of the three. We might need some more specialized occupations. Any ideas?
