New ship: Panther Clipper

It would be really funny if literally no other ship can mass lock the Panther Clipper MK2 - except another Panther Clipper.

And I pity the ship that tries to headbutt this giant to make it stop 😁

That slab in the middle is clearly either four or eight modules. So either that's four Class 8 bays or eight Class 7s for 1024, or eight Class 8 bays for 2048. Plus a few smaller slots for a few hundred extra cargo, but that's small change.

There will be riots if they go for 1024 plus change. But 2048 plus change is huge.

Maybe it's four Class 8s, with four Class 7s as well for 1512.

Four Class 8, two Class 7, two Class 6 would be 1408. That sounds reasonable. Give it a 5,4,2,1 then that's 1520 shieldless with cruise assist and docking.

That's my bet.

Could you shield this beast with a Class 6 shield? You might have to use a Class 7 and go down to 1392. 1360 if you want an FSD booster.

They should however absolutely refresh multi-crew roles as part of the Panther Clipper roll out. It's great them saying it's got four seats, but if players can't get proper multicrew roles then those seats will be vacant just as they are now in Imperial Cutters, Condas etc.
Agreed.

If FDev really want to hit it out of the park, there should be a "device" usable in supercruise that fires an energy burst at a ship that is interdicting you. From the viewpoint of the pirate, it'd look like a bright light and makes it harder for them to interdict you. During a transport-themed community goal, you could probably get someone to multicrew and operate it for you.

There could also be a "supercruise navigator" position that is able to see areas in the system where solar wind would disrupt the sensors of other ships. So basically, while in super cruise there'd be "terrain" that cargo ships could hide in and maneuver around, rather than just flying from point A to point B.

A third idea would be drones deployable in supercruise that show up on a pirate's sensor screen as another ship - the pirate would have to pick one to interdict.

BIG THANKS
to Frontier!!

Certainly, but bigger thanks go to CMDR @Bigmaec even, who kept this topic alive for so many years, so it ultimately became a community meme even!

Be honest, virtually nobody actually believed FD would listen. Regardless of possible practical reasons justifying such a ship, @Bigmaec was the only one who kept the thought of it in our minds, and for years.

I bet it wouldn't be there without him.

Now while we stand here in fear and awe, don't forget the man who forged the meme!

O7,
🙃

Be interesting to see how it flies.

Back when Prometheus came out, I tried building a Prometheus-style ship in KSP and the vertically-asymmetrical thrusters made for some wacky handling.
Basically, it was okay flying straight and level but it struggled to climb and was really eager to dive.
Difficult to explain but it due to it having a centre of thrust not aligned with the thrusters and each pair of thrusters not being equal distances away from the centre of thrust.

I assume (hope) FDev just "fiddle" all that in ED and we'll assume the thrusters are intelligently throttling their output to give it manageable handling.
