New Version of Cmdr's Log Available!

Aright, so do we want a typical window file selector box to pop up when you hit an Import button? Or some other contrived fancy method of doing imports?

And... I just realized an amazing side effect of how I did this. You can also use it to update an existing station's data. Just dump a new CSV file and import it again and Cmdr's Log will find the existing station and override all the commodities with the stuff in the CSV for you.

Um... dunno. Standard? Something with lava lamps?

Yeah, that was the main thing I was looking forward to :D

How about letting the player set a folder that will always contain the CSV files, remember it, and import all CSV files it finds in that folder, with option to auto-delete each CSV after it's been imported?

By the way, another spelling fix between Cmdr's Log and EliteOCR: Land Enrich Sys needs to be changed to Land Enrichment Systems

.

Theoretically the OCR has a default location it dumps it's files... once that path is identified you just need a list of CSVs showing a creation timestamp to avoid reusing files.
(I suppose if you were heading in the idiot-proof code you could log the timestamp of already used CSV so it only shows unused CSV and the ability to 'ignore' non-relative CSV creations... then only unused CSV will ever show in the file list. You don't have to apply the timestamp to the data imported, just to see if it has been imported before, and if it has then it won't show up as a 'New') -

BUT... a basic section window is fine

For import I would vote for a (configurable) dedicated folder where CmdrsLog would try to import all CSVs from with the press of an Update/Import Data button. Browsing for CSVs is less fun I think.
This way you just need to OCR the screenshots, export the data into the same folder CmdrsLog will look, then press the button in CmdrsLog and you are done.

That sounds great!

That sounds like a good idea, though the cmdr's log has been stated is a purely manual program, though I suppose importing cvs from regulatednoise or eliteocr wouldn't change the fact that cmdr's log itself is manual.

I agree. CmdrsLog is still manual if you compare to the other tool which automatically list the prices for you when you enter a system...
Which is cool actually, but in my opinion until the game does not have such a feature implemented (eg the ability to know the prices from a distance) it should be considered cheating.
Not because it lists the prices automatically, but because it lists prices for places you have not been there.
You should only know what you have visited, collected by yourself as long as the game does not offer the ability to know prices remotely. If you use tools to make that process easier, that is fine in my opinion.
And yeah, I meant here it would be nice if CmdrsLog could also detect the current system ;-)

Well... it's about time :) I was waiting for someone to finally realize the file format is super simple and should be easy to pump new data into it from the outside if you really want to. Awesome work! Hopefully they handle the custom fields ok. Those are a bit tricky since they can be ANY key for a key value pair.

I absolutely support this kind of external injection of data as an option for people that are really wanting to use it. Thanks :)

I'll try not to alter the file format too much in the future ;)

Wrt OldLost companion tool. As you support the idea (though it violates your NOT crowd source data principle a bit) you might want to consider putting it on the OP, otherwise it gets snowed under. I've taken the liberty to put it on the OP of the 3rd party tools thread - TODO section for now. OldLost's tool is certainly something I'm gonna try out in combination with your Cmdrs Log ;-) You are already on the OP - also TODO section. Sooooooo many tools, so little time ;-(

I don't really see it as violating crowd sourcing at all. If you don't get your files from someone else, you are still doing all the work and its still your data. It becomes crowd sourced if you have data for a station you've never been to. EliteORC just helps to automate entry of stations you are visiting personally. I believe if the game had anything like Cmdr's Log built in (which it should!); the data logging would be automatic and not manual entry. Just don't take CSV files from other people and it won't be crowd sourced ;)

Seconded!

This is what the previously posted script did as well!

Suggest add to the first message a link to the EliteOCR when you upgrade the version.

Question to all you clever chaps :D

i've spent a month in Alliance space & now i fancy getting me a Clipper in Empire Space so i've redirected & now in LTT 7488

So using the Search Station Data tick box & entering empire it lists all the empire systems i have entered. However when i click on trading.. it lists all the stations when i just want it to display the empire ones

Question : must i hide all the other stations just to show the empire ones ?

Do u know a better way to display this ?

I would like to just do empire so as to gain reps & buy the clipper :D

thx for ur reply ;)

Looks like yes, you'd have to hide everything that wasn't in the GLORIOUS AND MOST WONDERFUL EMPIRE. Easy way to do this is to use the filter to get all poohead... I mean Federation... stations, click on the top one, hold shift, hit the bottom one, hit hide. Now do the same for Alliance and Independent, and voila!

Yes, exactly. I only use the data that I have aquired from visiting the systems myself. I still contribute that data to the crowd sourced db, but I only use what I've visited. And, mainly this is because there really aren't any other cmdrs in the areas that I go, so there is no existing data until I get there.
