News about new ships?

Imperials need a medium size combat ship not an explorer.

Hopefully "The Hunter" will fill that role if/when it makes it, as judging from the concept art clearly it is of Imperial design, looks about medium sized and built for combat. FD I guess will probably call it the "Imperial Hunter" so name fits with rest of the Imp fleet.

AFAIK, the only confirmed upcoming ship is the Panther Clipper.

Speaking of which, does this mean that we will be seeing a new ship manufacturer enter the fray? There were 5 or so ships named after cats in FFE, Panther Clipper, Puma Clipper, Lion, Tiger and the Lynx Bulk Carrier (megaship?), while the Lion was made by the Gupta Industrial Corporation, so it makes sense to bring them in for the line of cat ships rather than divide the cats up between other manufacturers. Maybe they are waiting until a few of them are done to add the manufacturer in with a reasonable lineup?

I like this idea, but the compromise can't be speed, as that is one of the defining characteristics of Imperial Ships. Maybe give it lousy hardpoints, like 2 medium, 2 small, a relatively small cargo capacity, and poor manueverability. But the jump range, speed, fuel tank, and shields should be top notch for exploring and escaping trouble when returing to inhabited space.

I quite like this idea! Repped.

And what would this CG be? Why a hauling CG of course - haul in all the stuff to start building PC's.

That Hunter ship looks insane. But I just don't see Frontier making a ship that cool. There's just no way. It would come out looking like a courier or something XD

And that imperial fighter pic...Hnnnngg. Too much awesome in one thread.

Wouldn't really work as CGs need tiers to provide appropriate rewards, plus the opportunity for them to fail or provide a smaller change to the galaxy.

It could be something like:

Tier 1: Panther Clipper added to game
Tier 2: As above, plus new station selling PCs at 10% discount added to system
Tier 3: As above, plus new Gupta Industrial Corporation (assuming they bring back an old manufacturer from FFE for the PC) added as an minor faction (independent corporation type) controlling the new station
Tier 4: As above, plus population increase in system and the addition of a high tech outpost to the system to provide additional materiel support for manufacturing
Tier 5: As above, except that the PC discount changes to 20%
Tier 6: As above, plus a 15% discount for all class 8 modules
Tier 7: As above, plus an engineer added to system specialising in jump drives and other things useful for freighters
Tier 8: As above, plus extra stations/outposts and population to support the mammoth PC production/refitting lines, turning the system into an industrial powerhouse with some high tech on the side.

That video was so poor... and I'm not just talking about the third rate acting.
I'm surprised I even bought the game... Actually, I bought the game because I didn't see that video. That would have put me off. LOL.

Engineers + ship kits = revenue.

So no. No new ships sadly.
Expect lots of ship kits though

Why do engineers bring in revenue? Am I missing something?

New ships don't have to fill a niche or a gap in the current catalogue. I'd like to have more ships to have more choice. It can be as simple as they way they look. People say there are loads of ships already but really at each stage in your cash flow through the game there is normally a choice of a only a couple of ships depending on your play style. So many of the ship catalogue are just variants on existing models (FAS/Dropship/Gunship, DBS/DBX etc) More ships please, less generic designs and lots more variety.

Agreed on this, the simple fact is that there's generally only 1-2 ships for each task available. You want a medium combat vessel? You have basically the Python and the FDL (and arguably, only the FDL is a valid choice). Want a heavy fighter? Good luck finding an alternative to the Vulture. New ships don't need to be identical, but just to offer similar performance overall while having different strengths and weaknesses.

Not to mention the economic implications, as it only makes sense for ship manufacturers to try to produce competing models to their rivals. Really, unless it's way outside a manufacturers portfolio, every manufacturer should strive to have a ship for every role (or, at very least, a multipurpose ship that can be configured for the role, like how Faulcon Delacy seems to work), with each one having their own little spin on it, as per the manufacturer's tendencies. It would also make sense for a certain degree of loyalty to exist between superpowers and their preferred contractors, so the Federal Navy would likely favour Core Dynamics ships if possible and so if CD made a militarised freighter/resupply ship then it would likely appear in the standard fleet rosters of every Federal faction.

The npc pilots in the crew lounge somtimes mention a prototype alliance ship called a Manticore. My money is on that appearing fairly soon.

We have TWO dedicated explorers. It is even in their name for love of the almighty pasta lord.

Saying the Asp Explorer isn't a dedicated exploration ship is like calling the Vulture a trading ship or something.

But fact is after 2.3 explorers now have plenty of not only good options but now that niche of ships is crowded.

Imperials need a medium size combat ship not an explorer.
Yeah, reading that left me wondering what game he's playing.

I wonder if we will ever see the hidden ship from frontier. Think it was called the mirage and could only be found in one station far far out from the bubble. Iirc you had to carry a load of military fuel to fuel it as the station didn't stock the fuel.
