Next Elite update

Hi all,
Does anyone else think that the next update should also update the HUD interface to have less cartoon type writing and bubbles etc and change to something more belivable for future space flight? Not just talking a colour change like people have changed to blue, but something like thinner lines or arrow markers instead of circles. Or at least have an few options in the menu to cycle through.
Im thinking that elite want to be the closest real life space sim around, yet the HUD seems a bit stuck in the 1990's not the year 3304.
Maybe a quick win for frontier.
Hoping to get enought interest from people in this to make frontier consider this.

Im just sick of flying towards big orange circles and big stupid writing. It blocks alot of the view.

Thanks

Making the writing smaller would be a nightmare for VR users.

To make it look like SC's stringy and squinty whatever for a hud? nah. I think it's fine the way it is. "Cartoony style writing"? , maybe you've mistaken NMS cartoony style for ED's? ED's fonts even looks more serious than what was done on StarTrek:TNG with the fat and squished lettering.. That said, I'd agree with options to thin the targeting circle reticule or fade out certain elements to have a more unimpeded view, but no need to redo the whole hud style imo.

I did say have some different types to cycle through.
Cant use VR myself it sends my eyes funny, i recommend and prefer triple monitors for a more real experiance.

It would be nice if there was some HUD variation for different ships. Nothing in different places, just a UI style change, reflect the individual manufacturers.
Nice idea! Although, it could be argued that they use HUDs from a common electronics manufacturer or they are unified and standardized which can be considered important, too.

I concur! Great idea!

For me, I want a general HUD overhaul just remove a lot of duplicated information and information that doesn't have any value to me (i.e., just about the entirety of the forward-facing left hand display when in SC). I am sure we could find more useful info to put there.

Yep agree with this one. You'd expect the different manufacturers to have their own hud type but all based on a similar core.

V2k.

Agree it would be nice. Disagree it would be a "quick win".
Having multiple interfaces, even if the differences are pretty trivial, would add a lot of cost to every change that happens in the UI, and virtually ALL changes have some change in the UI.
You can be sure the 80s UI was chosen after a lot of thought for a lot of non-obvious and non-trivial reasons

Would love it to be "cooler", but I can appreciate it was probably the correct decision at the time (or at least a valid, justifiable decision)

Yup this.
Slightly differing fonts, different colours, slightly different designs.
Though I'd say put things in different places as well on some ships. Currently the canopy struts are really the only thing dramatically different in most ships.

Everything has to be legible at low res for consoles and vr users. So, no.

I did say have some different ones to cycle through, a low res one could be one of these for the people with poor graphics cards or VR. Just a shame it looks tacky for people with good graphics. Also they apend lots of time updating planet textures and features then ruin it or block it with the HUD writing. I mean come on there isnt even an option to turn off the destination without losing the lock on. For me its a big YES.
