Next gen console update for PS5 And Xbox???

Then why the game if is not developed and abandoned for consoles is still available to buy and listed in the market?
Because it's still a game that you can play. What's 'abandoned' is continued development. It's not a 'live service' experience on consoles, it's just a game like the rest of your game library. And just like them, they won't work on the PS6, 7 or 8 either.

Greetings to the ED development team.

As I have been playing ED for a long time and will continue to do so on Playstation and Xbox consoles, I wish that if Odyssey is not coming to consoles.
Then at least give us the new ships you recently introduced.
Especially the Mandalay, Cobra MK V and the brand new Corsair.
That should be technically possible.

I and many other players would of course pay in ARX.
Because the new ships should not be a technical problem for version 3.8 ... in my opinion.

Yours sincerely

You do realise it's not just ships right, it's new FSD's, new travel methods, new engineering, new slots in outfitting, it's not just "a ship,' it's a whole lot of other things that go with them just to make the ships possible! Lots of new code went into introducing the new ships, so sorry, not happening.

They can't even get the new paint jobs to get across or the old one or even CG or even the 10 year decal .
I'm afraid that if you want to get the new ships you are going to have to join the PC club .
I'm not happy about ( considering I have no clue about it ) Fdev is working on wearing down all those console players who haven't moved across yet .
After consolegate a lot of my Xbox friends have moved over yes it isn't cheap but if you want the stuff you have to do the move .
Elite on console is dead to fdev. We console players have just going to bite the bullet I'm afraid .

I agree it's sad that they discontinued console development, but the threads about asking for new features just never seem to end, they aren't going to get them at all, it's pointless asking. Will FDEV one day just shut down the console versions, possibly, so they aren't going to spend any time or money porting new features.

Well my thoughts are very well known on this matter but it's now 3 yearsish and we ( consoles) are ever hopeful that Fdev will change their mind , but even as someone as opinionated as myself has realised yes there is no hope of Fdev doing any EDO console work. If they were able to I'm sure they would have by now ..... So consoles can still play the game which has given over thousands of hours play for me but nothing new or join the PC players.

It's almost inevitable given the situation.

I can't say it affects me one way or the other, especially when I ignore threads with titles like 'Next gen console update for PS5 And Xbox???'.

Indeed, though it's more a case that they "Won't" rather than they "Can't" give us ANY new content! - Or even new CC, storylines or bug fixing patches! 😯😂🩲 ...

Indeed while to get all the content they now have on PC would take a "little" bit of work and indeed they'd really have to give us Odyssey so they could sell us something, which indeed most of us are waiting for with our wallets open, BUT it surely wouldn't take THAT much time and effort as it's existing content that "only" has to be ported over, likely to the "next gen" consoles only! 😯😂🩲😀🤞 ...

Indeed around the time that Odyssey was launching on PC, they seemed quietly confident that it and 4.0 would run on the "LAST GEN" consoles, but "apparently" it wasn't "quite" good enough then (though it likely would have been for most of us, IF they'd let us see or play the build, but they didn't! 😯😂🩲 )...

However surely now, after several years of optimisation, Odyssey and 4.0 WOULD run on the last gen consoles, or at least on the Pro versions at least (not that any games are or ever were released that would only run on the Pro versions and not on the base versions of the recent consoles, but at this stage, that should be allowed 😯😂😀🤞 )...

BUT if we take it as fact that there's some technical reason that 4.0 and Odyssey won't run on the last gen consoles still, they surely will on the next gen consoles!...

Indeed I'd happily buy Odyssey or any expansions they have sold since or are planning to add to the game, maybe even reluctantly ARX for early access to certain ships as it is on PC, although as I understand it, as many of those things, as they were on consoles in this game and countless others, they'll eventually be available for free, as many of them were added in patches to the base game, rather than being Odyssey specific!

While indeed Frontier has plenty "next gen" games out already, including several running on the same engine as Elite, but "just" not Elite, for some reason! 😯😂🩲 .

Indeed we used to get Elite as a native release on consoles, as we should have continued to get, however in the PS4 era and especially now, we got and are getting plenty of games ported from PC and now Xbox, so if they will all run, near flawlessly and usually flawlessly after a couple of patches, why is it "IMPOSSIBLE" or "infeasible" to release a next gen version of Elite?! 😯😂🩲 ...

Indeed they can and should, hopefully before the year is out, fix their mistake and "at least" give us a full next gen version of Elite, however it shouldn't be too difficult to indeed SELL us Odyssey "light" on the last gen consoles with SOME new content! - Let's say if Odyssey proper was €40 at launch on the next gen consoles, Odyssey "light" was €20 on the last gen consoles and individual early access and pre built ships were about €5 worth of ARX (or whatever their real life value is in the PC version now), I reckon plenty of us would pay it and more than cover their investment in "restarting" console development - Make it happen Frontier! 😯😀🤘🤞 .

"Build it and we will come (back)!..." 😯😂🩲😀🤘🤞 .

I mean, there IS one way to end the constant treads on this topic, just saying. It's a market they allreadhave foothold in, so why they don't broaden that foothold is beyond me.the money is still there.Hell I would market it for free ! Release it as a sequel, of they must.

Hi All!

I'm an early fan of the Elite saga, and a convinced console gamer. My adventure began in the '80s with the NES version, on which I literally spent two whole years, immersed in this fascinating universe.

In 2017, I jumped on Elite Dangerous on PS4. The result: over 4,500 hours of gameplay, and over 500 euros spent on skins, mainly to support Frontier and their incredible work.

Like many console gamers, I felt deeply disappointed - even betrayed - when Frontier announced it was abandoning the console versions. My only real regret with Elite Dangerous, up to that point, was that I couldn't leave my pilot's seat and Odyssey, originally announced for PS4, was being cut.

That Frontier chose to end development on PS4/XBOne is understandable - the technical limitations are real. But not to announce anything about PS5 or Xbox Series versions, even for a fee, was a real stab in the back for the most invested fans.

In parallel, to see a studio like Paradox, respectful of its community, announce with regret the end of support for Stellaris on PS4/XBOne, while confirming the arrival of a native version for PS5/XBSeries (with all PC content included) in the coming year... well, it makes the Elite Dangerous pill even harder to swallow when you think of Frontier, especially when you see their other titles already present on current consoles.

In short, I remain optimistic - perhaps naively so - and still hope that one day Frontier will announce Elite Dangerous on current consoles (PS5/XBSeries), with the same content as on PC (Odyssey, Colonization, etc.).

A die-hard Elite Dangerous fan.

Nothing ages well, plans change, milk goes sour, financial constraints dictate what companies can and can't do. Trying to hold FDEV to something they said ten years ago isn't something that can be done because ten years ago?
Excellent, the Cobra IV can be released to everyone then.

No, because some things are constrained by events other than just time, for instance you don't get out of a NDA just because ten years has passed and the world has changed. Trying to equate releasing the Cobra 4 with stopping development on Consoles is disengenuous at best, no contract or guarantee was ever given that Consoles would be supported forever, that would be a silly contract or guarantee to make.

Got it, sometimes 10 years matters and sometimes it doesn't. How convenient :)

Yes that's how it works, statement made on video about what they may do ten years in the future depending on how things go indeed don't matter, they can change those plans any time they want. Written guarantees that the Cobra 4 will be an exclusive item only available to players fulfilling certain conditions do matter. You see one is a vague statement of what they may do in the future, while the other is written and enforceable guarantee, so yes different things are affected by time differently depending on the context of how they are made. So a house mortgage is legally enforceable, a vague statement that I might give you some money every now and then isn't, it doesn't matter how many years pass.

Item 1) The NES vesion released in 1990, (I know the memory plays tricks...)

Item 2) Your best bet IMHO is to get a PC transfer and Geforce subscription if you don't want to use the PC as the platform.

When Frontier were able to take the entire game away from macOS users, including any entitlement they may have had to the Cobra IV, what enforceable guarantee exists?

There have been to many casualties in the last ten years and I wouldn't wager there will be more to come (look at horizons to odyssey for an example), the OSX issue was well discussed and unfortunately fdev didn't want to do a Metal write of the renderer.

I think for me the biggest kick was the dropping of Horizons for the Odyssey engine version which was a hideous downgrade for everyone who could run it. After that there was the VR circus which still isn't fixed years after Odysseys release.

If there was a good reason to cancel then there was a good reason to cancel, it doesn't matter what that reason was, the end result would still leave us exactly where we are now, so I don't see the point of the point! They don't need to actually give us any reason at all, that's the entire point of them being the developer and us being the customers.
There wasn't though, that's one of many bones of contention.
