"No plans to port Elite Dangerous to PS5"

Hi Guys,

also with another TV with 2.1 HDMI I have still the random crashes. Yesterday I played >3h Read Dead Redemption 2 (PS4 game) without any problems.

I‘ve tested:
re-install Elite
restore database on PS5
reset whole PS5 to delivery status
disable video output to 1080p without HDR
change HDMI cable
change HDMI port on TV
change TV

On the PS4 is Elite still running fine with my account.

The last test I am missing is connecting the PS5 to an older TV without 4K.

Hi @PercyNoMercy

Since you posted last time I've had one blue screen crash after an extended play session. Since then it's been fine though. I sent the crash report and associated footage and can recommend you do the same. Have you raised a support ticket with Frontier?

In the meantime, I also started a new Epic account on the PC and have been switching between PS5 and PC most of the week - on the same monitor. Although the PS5 runs much quicker, and smoother at 60FPS than it used to, the 1080p resolution produces a markedly and noticeably poorer play experience.

And so I can only re-state that I hope Frontier reconsider their decision, and plan to release an update to the PS5 version of the game, soon...

Today I plugged the PS5 on an older TV with 1080p 60Hz. I‘m playing since 2h without any crash. Seems to be an issue with 4k + HDR. My newer TVs Samsung has 2160p 60Hz HDR with HDMI 2.0b and the Sony 2160p 120Hz HDR with HDMI 2.1 My guess is that Elite do not like to be transmitted in a kind of container in a higher quality video signal from the PS5 to the TV.

Another developer today has announced their plans for free new-gen enhancements to their game - along with announcing that cross play is being implemented alongside the existing Cross Save functionality.

These are the new features available to console players of Destiny 2, shown below:-

As more and more developers make such announcements, we can only hope that Frontier re-think their decision only to support a last-gen backwards compatible version of Elite on the new consoles.

I think you need to factor in Odyssey's development taking up time, its huge and is currently using all resources
Question is do these other developers (Destiny 2 Included) have/been developing similar style updates? I dunno

As consumers we're unable to determine the development effort involved in any update, fix or new feature addition, unfortunately. For example, how does the development effort to implement Cross Save functionality bear up against the development effort involved in adding 2D VR support to Odyssey. Is it the same? Are the same number of players impacted equal? Is a decision made for one feature over another made simply because the PC VR community made a big fuss about their pet feature, with open letters, reddit threads and vocal support from Frontier's affiliated YouTube content creators?

So many questions that we can't answer ;) :geek:

Is Odyssey going to have any of the framerate and resolution improvements that Destiny is providing I wonder? I'm guessing no. As only PS4 is supported and it will 'work' on PS5 by nature of backwards compatibility.

Shame.

If the base game is anything to go by, on PS5 you can look forward to Odyssey being artificially hobbled, with 1080p at 60FPS, with graphics settings from PS4 Pro (Medium/High on PC).

Well, this is on ED official site. When PS5 or XB Series appear there, let me know

What's pointless is complaining about a problem and not logging it in the issue tracker.

yes, but the game is not supported in native mode on PS5, only in compatibility mode - which means that it has all the features it had on PS4
So if you want your ticket not to be discarded as not supported, you should ask for 4k mode for PS4 Pro *()

Hence my example with the Quality mode on XBSX - quality mode is available only on XB One X enhanced mode - and so it is available on XB Series X (that can support One X enhanced mode) but not one XB Series S which does not support One X enhanced mode at all - so no quality mode for ED on Series S

So an issue that's not an issue but it causes issues with Issue Tracker getting clogged with non issues

*(which they would probably say that PS4 Pro is not able to run ED in 4k anyway)

I see what the post above is saying. Elite is listed as Enhanced for PS Pro
Elite: Dangerous1920x1080Choice between performance mode, locked at 60fps or quality mode with boosts to ambient occlusion, texture quality and AA with an unlocked framerate between 30 and 60fps

But I read this is 'broken'. I'd be happy if my PS5 could run the game as it should be working on PS Pro. So that's what needs fixing. I'll look for a ticket.

Second post down, if it’s still active...

Also reported on Xbox via a different thread. There are also separate bug tracker entries for the same issue.

Yet when questioned in the AMA, they knew nothing about it. Imagine if Display settings were bugged to Medium on PC, would we be sitting here 6 months later and it not be fixed, with no plan to fix it, and the CM team know nothing about it?
