"No plans to port Elite Dangerous to PS5"

Not sure if this has been mentioned but didnt Frontier also say there were no plans to bring back Galnet or CGs?

So a PS5 version is probably in the works, when it'll arrive is a different question. Its probably not very high up in their list of things to do.

The following is statement from Frontier a couple of weeks ago. I wouldn't necessarily translate "we don't currently have plans" as "we are working on it".

Will Odyssey be coming to PS5 and the Xbox Series consoles? We don’t have anything to share on this right now, however, we can confirm that the PS4 and Xbox One versions of Odyssey are playable on next-gen consoles via backwards compatibility

Nothing new, but the addition "right now" gives me the feeling, that they're working on it but can't announce it just yet.

I'd couple that with the 2 separate occasions they've said they have 'no plans', and say that 'nothing to announce right now' be taken in the same context as the time they said they had 'nothing to announce at launch' about PSVR .

Maybe they'll get around to it, maybe they won't. Don't hold your breath while you're waiting...

30 pages on this thread. Of course ED will play on the PS5. Will it be 4K or something else probably not. Will it have VR probably not as Frontier never supported the PS4 VR. Will the game be awesome on a PlayStation? Of course. Will Odyssey work on it? Of course Frontier is not stupid promoting their three platforms. End of thread.

No, not end of thread. There is a genuine interest of the PS community that this game gets ported to the PS5 with all the advantages (4K, better framrate, better effects etc.).

And this interest will increase by time, as more and more people will upgrade from PS4 to PS5.

Can't hurt to have a thread to share the latest news and let FDev know, that there are many PS CMDRs that are interested in a port.

Yep. That's internet.

Of course ED will play on the PS5.

As a PS4 game in backwards compatibility mode... for as long as Sony still offer that feature on the PS5...

Will it be 4K or something else probably not.

Why not if the game supports it on every other platform?

Will it have VR probably not as Frontier never supported the PS4 VR.

Again, why not? (although admittedly that's up to meeting Sony's requirements).

Will the game be awesome on a PlayStation? Of course.

Debatable. It's not nearly as awesome as it could and arguably should be, with a native port to current gen consoles.

Will Odyssey work on it? Of course Frontier is not stupid promoting their three platforms. End of thread.

There are five platforms to consider here, not just three. That's the entire point. For someone who thinks they "end" the thread with their solitary post, you've not done a very good job of understanding it so far I'd say. 🤷‍♀️

I see that you didn't bother to actually read the thread, or the OP that I've kept up to date. Here's the answers to your questions:

Will it be 4k?
No. 1080p max. 1080p is 4 times less than the resolution available on all other platforms.

Will it play on PS5?
Yes, but only in backwards compatibility mode. There are no plans to make a PS5 native version.

If something changes, I will update the OP.

<Continue thread.>

Currently

you are missing that important part :)
They said the same thing when they canceled the Galned and in-game activities.
Currently there are no plans to bring back Galnet

And in September they did got back Galnet

Edit: there is hope

No plans is not very ambiguous. It means they have no plans to work on it. Of course, in the future anything is possible, but given development-to-publish time for things in Elite that have been planned, I'd say we'll be lucky to see anything change within the next 12 months.

There is hope. Hope that we're lucky. Remind me to put on the lottery.

Because it's completely irrelevant, and a simple opinion & false hope.

What are you basing this on? A completely unrelated feature which they always said they would bring back at some point (just didn't say when or how)?

How is that even relevant?

"No plans."

Nothing new, but the addition "right now" gives me the feeling, that they're working on it but can't announce it just yet.

That doesn't really make any sense, there is no reason not to tell players it's in the works if it is.

Maybe, hopefully eventually it will be done as it doesn't really make sense not to patch an active game to take advantage of next generation consoles.

Even dead non service games are getting patched now and in the future from other developers.

It is in my opinion really showing its age on PS5 with blurry low resolution asests (quality mode being broken really doesn't help) and while performance is fine it could really do with some TLC from FDev.

At 1080p with the low resolution textures it looks very out of place on PS5. It's striking how fuzzy the UI looks, this was much better when Quality mode worked on the Pro.

That would depend entirely on how far out it is in the plan (if its in the plan at all), and how much those plans are subject to change. This kind of messaging isn't as black and white as you suggest.

Agree. I go from PS5 1080p to 4K on a PC and the difference is night and day.

It means they have no plans to work on it.

It means they have no plans they wish to share publicly. I would very much hope they are weighing up internally whether it's worth their time. It might even be on the long-range plan but is not yet a hard commitment. They might be seeing how well Odyssey sells before firming anything up. There may be other factors weighing here. We simply don't know.

Not sure I agree, I know CDPR are not currently in good graces on PS4 but, they already announced plans for a free next gen patch on the aging Witcher 3 on PS5. Something I am very much looking forward to. I don't get why 'if' FDev had plans they couldn't just say so. Without giving a timeline.

The worry for me is they think it's not commercially worth doing.

It's not looking positive right now in my opinion but, if it comes I will be happy.

All of the sentences in your post that involve "might", "may", and "hope" are your opinions, for which unfortunately there is no basis.

Without wanting to recount the whole thread... the only basis that we have is that the Community Management team have stated twice - when asked directly - that there are no plans, and one of the developers also stated that they have no plans in an interview with a third party. That's concise and unambiguous in my opinion.

I do hope that no plans changes to plans in future, and I appreciate your opinion, and optimism, but at the moment, that's all there is.

Managed to get a hold of a PS5 and been playing ED on it a fair bit. Obviously the lack of a 4K option is pretty disappointing but the Quality Mode definitely looks better than performance: more detail and FAR less flickery based on my A/B testing whilst parked outside a station. Keeps up with the frame rate in Quality mode, too, unlike the PS4 Pro so that’s nice ... but, yeh, c’mon Frontier ... unlock 4K on the PlayStation version ... just give it a caveat not to be used on PS4 and let us crack on!!
