No Single Player Offline Mode then? [Part 2]

quite agree - so are you going to give them some time to DO something, or are you going to continue to fan the flames ?

(Before you react badly to that just remember that I personally am taking a £5K hit by all this as I promised my +1s to the launch party to forum members and feel trying for a refund is unfair to them so I am taking one for the team. FD have acted badly, granted, but I am all FOR 2nd chances if not more. I personally want ED to succeed - can you say the same ?)

Agreed. I got the news 15 minutes before my account got deleted that DB was looking into refunds again. I decided to look stupid and give them a second chance.

Yeah well, do what everyone else does and make a poll to your exact requirements and see what happens.

Those who deserve a refund I wish you well.
The rest can live with it.

I'm out of here for the night and looking forward to 3.9 and Saturday. Enjoy.
I don't think you're even reading what I've been posting to you, so I don't see why you're replying. Or why I'm replying in turn. I'll just stop. Sorry for confusing you.

Better to continue to support FD funds wise in the hope that solo gets done eventually, then to walkaway and see it never happen.

I believe an "archived server" to combat the risk of company collapse is good enough as an offline mode. Just implement that sooner, long before the company ever risks losing control over the game. It'll be fine.

And have people data-mining the game and modding it. I hope not.

There's an interesting psychological mechanism there, when you feel forced or coerced into a situation that you are, at every turn, prevented from getting out of. You start ...bargaining with the circumstances to be released and as you are being disappointed with every attempt, frustration rises until you become irate, feeling vulnerable, and eventually, simply scream incoherently.

Fascinating.

I mean not you. People. In general. That's what happens. Mostly to men, according to research, I think. Possibly. Could also have made all of that up just now.
It does trigger the flight or fight response if you get backed into a corner

and if you see no way out of it...

Dear Frontier Developments,

Please give Papa Smurf his money back. If you do so, I pledge to purchase enough items from the online store to make up for the loss.
I am 100% serious and not intending in any way make light of Papa Smurfs position.
I just believe this needs to end and we need to move on and I am willing to part with some money to make it happen.

Sincerely,

ecg

damned noble of you sir!

and whilst you're being so generous with you're funds, would you be so good as to footing the bill for FDEV fulfilling upon their promise of delivering a single player offline version of elite: dangerous? cos it sure doesn't seem like they want to spend/loose the money!

p.s. I already tried and payed, two years ago, but what the heck, you seem to have a more special connection, so you're opinion probably carries more weight than mine, let me know when they've accepted the payment! thanks in advance.

Definitely not according to the KS timeline since 60% of the backers were already onboard before offline was mentioned.

Must be enough to have a financial impact on them since they are so wary of returning the money they took in what I feel is bad faith.

Yes... very positive but only if this was done when off-line mode was taken off and people asked for refunds. Now this is 101 example of DAMAGE CONTROL.

Realistically.... i don't care... rebate my money and do not expect anything from me ever again FD.

The same, actually a better result could have been reached by a calm and polite discussion, without the disinformation, accusations and angry stirring of trouble. The torrent of paranoia and bitterness has been a staggering sight.

Do you work for FD? (Yes or No?)

If "NO" why do you have the need to defend them and speak for them? Realistically the sooner they step forward and take fault for their actions, fix this issue, their credibility would go up. At no point of time have I seen any type of apology for attempting to screw people, being dishonest, etc, etc.

I will give them a second chance when I start seeing actions to fix the mess they made themselves. (i'm sorry to hear that you are in hole 5k...)

Cheers,

Once again... if the number is so low and they understand that they majorly did the pooch.
Why didn't they post an update informing all that they will refund all the money and wish them the best?!??!
Instead what did they do again?

Perhaps because they only wish to refund those with a definite reason for requesting them. It has only been a day, no time yet to re-examine those requests to sort out the genuine from those who are, shall we say, not genuine.

No, the number of people who claimed that it was an issue must be financially significant - which is not the same thing at all as people who are legitimately affected - and is in fact the reason that they didn't just shout loud and proud 'WE WILL REFUND ALL THE MONEHS' because alot of people in the world are... unscrupulous persons (pre-edited to save a mod's time) that would have taken advantage.

There's a saying:

"Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me."

Feel free to trust them again at your own peril. I won't.

Better late than never, Papa. The gesture has been made, a classic olivebranch. You can accept the gesture and fall into an awaiting state, or you smirk at the gesture and keep spewing vitriol.
I choose the former. What say you? ^^

Wow :) of all surprises I like the positive ones best.

So how is having to log into the server to play the game NOT DRM?

Online Connection required for multiplayer and to 'server synch' indicates that like ME3 the system tries to phone home and if it can't you just keep laying single player fine.

Having to have an active account and login to the server is DRM.

How are they going to manage to tell the kickstarter backers based on FAQ & Reward Level that they are getting a DRM free game?

Physical DRM-free boxed edition of "Elite: Dangerous" plus all rewards above (please note: the disc in the pack is simply an alternative way to install the game - it will have the same online account code whether installed off disc or downloaded digitally).

Will the game be DRM-free?

Yes, the game code will not include DRM (Digital Rights Management), but there will be server authentication when you connect for multiplayer and/or updates and to synchronise with the server.

Having to have a 'live' account to access the game at all is the very definition of DRM.

Barking at the wrong tree here, I'm afraid.

Am I missing something here? Solo mode will still exist won't it?

As far as I am aware yes solo play will still be there, you can still play elite dangerous and never see another human player.
That being said say you take on a mission eg the weekend needs landing an buy some fish, your computer will talk to the server via your net network
connection so if I were playing the same time that mission would be gone and there would be less fish at that station we simply don't see each other
but both of our actions will effect the others data in otherwords we cannot both be the first to discover a planetoid named lv-426 in the zeta 2 reticuli
ie we will share the same galaxie and all its events

please mods devs correct me If I have the wrong idea about how this works........
when I first heard it was online only my heart sank not because I cant connect, but because of its dependency on servers ie your flying along and for some reason due to high volume of fish for eg being bought and sold the game has a stutter whilst your in flight, or worse case disconnects you.
the other reason is say in years to come the servers shut down " wot no more trusty ship to fly!
but david has reassured he will release the source if that day comes so others groups could start up there own so the game can live on like elite 2
"still got my cobra mk 2 ny-444 phew don't wanna lose that........
there are many like it but that one is mine!"
