No Single Player offline Mode then?

I understand what they are, but a law has not been breached unless someone has been refused a refund they feel they are entitled to.

Incorrect. Again its not about refund.

Consider this : I bail you up in a dark alley with a knife and demand you wallet and jewellery. You complain, I return your wallet and jewellery (refund). The law has still been broken, refund or not. So the police would still prosecute.

Found the refund page. I have requested one UNLESS There is Clarification From a DEV that we will still have an Offline mode. For those looking for a refund, you must get it "before" release per the terms of the agreement. Seriously Guys, I don't want my money back But Im not paying $300 for an online only game when I was told it had an offline mode. I Drive trucks and I planned on playing it on my Laptop that isnt connected and when it is It cost me a lot for data charges.

OK - reading the newsletter again, and sorry to throw more potential negativity into the ring, but:

So are the boxed copies for KS backers out as well then? (i.e. FDev don't want to do disk manufacture and distribution) Or simply just that updates post-release will be downloads (which is perfectly reasonable, and I'm reading too much into the above quote, given the charged atmosphere tonight).

No you'd get a box but you will probably find yourself needing to update from the internet by the time you got it because of patches and content. That's exactly why the CD/DVD will eventually go away because the static copy is obsolete the second an update comes out.

It's not impossible the end result would be something between Elite and Frontier Elite 2 which in my opinion fails to be good at either one in addition to having none of the dynamic and community oriented content which frankly makes the game.
But it would be offline. And it should be a valid option for those who have no or very bad internet connection.
And of course it would be the fulfillment of the promise. No one promised the same experience offline as the online game.

Nah it probably be empty save a piece of paper with a product code on it.

Its not and I never said it was. Maybe some of us want FD to break the mold and do things a little differenty huh? Would make a nice change for a developer to put pride into keeping their game word integrity unspoiled and just as exciting for a player starting on day one of release, or five years down the line.

Their "integrity unspoiled" got flushed down the pan with Newsletter 49

ei incumbit probatio qui dicit non qui negat...

The law is not broken unless it's proven by the court - the presumption of innocence.

That's why I suggested that they dust off Frontier Elite 2 and add ED graphics and call it a day.

If someone could tell me how much data on average per hour it would take to play online, and the minimum connection speed required to play the game without any adverse affect on permofance - and these requirements turned out to be trivial - I, personally would feel a lot better about this.

Does anyone know?

For those of us with poor internet connections, and small download limits (that are unavoidable due to geography, or whatever) - this is a big deal.

If you already have access to the game load Elite and select 'Solo Online'. If that is playable for you now it still will be.

I've just changed to that mode with task manager open and opened a few menus and the like (taken off, landed opened commodities, jumped to another system). Most of the time my network traffic is 0. The most I saw was 192 kbps download and 184 kbps upload but both were very brief.

From that test I suspect the game would be ok on a fairly basic connection. I think the peak I had equates to a 1.9 meg connection and none of it was time critical, so you could probably chop that in half (if not more) and not notice anything. I think so long as you can maintain a constant connection... even if it is 0.5 meg you will probably be ok. For comparison, if I open the BBC home page my peak data rate is around 1.8 mbps.

Hopefully FDEV will have to come out with some system requirements soon. But it looks like browsing the web data use and entry level broadband will be ok... for solo online.

Utter nonsense. The two aren't even comparable.

What I will add though is that I once commended this forum, that its maturity showed up other, similar forums.

Tonight I've learnt that age truly makes no difference. It's been full of childish, petty rants.

Good luck with this one FD.

Or FD pull distribution from Australia which is more likely.

Yes, quite probable. If the market doesnt represent enough value for them, this may well be the case.

However it does not address the original breach of consumer law in the first place. However the ACCC probably would not continue action against FD if they chose to avoid the market, as Australian consumers would no longer be at risk.

Not a great PR situation tho. Play Elite:Dangerous! (Not available in Australia because we dont co-operate with their consumer laws) Cant imagine that would be good for bringing new consumers to market.

Maybe we should have asked about offline instead :D

We did exactly that, as it happens. And Michael and David made a joint statement, and updated the FAQ and description on the Kickstarter.

That's what bugs me the most. People pledged on that basis.

driving trucks while playing elite may not go well...

it's not only those with poor or non existant net connections but also for anyone who has issues with ED'd network, i would say that 90% of the little time i have played since alpha the stuttering when dogfighting etc is unbearable, hence why i only have 8 kills and never progressed further than a cobra, if nothing else an offline mode would have been a way out and as for not being dynamic i played every other elite games for years with no internet, i'd be just as happy playing ED with no net as well
