No Single Player offline Mode then?

So they won't likely give me a refund of my 165 pounds. I wanted offline , that's why I bought the game. I want to play a game on my terms. Sure I'd dip in to Online and have fun there too whilst it lasts ..... So I've decided I'm just going to blockage a major port with my KS paid for Cobra and blow anything and everything up, and when I die I'll start doing it again and again. It wouldn't take many of us to do this for them to notice. Is this griefing of a perfectly legitimate multi player option ? Tell me that ? Back in '84 we just shot and killed everything in the sky. What's to stop us now ?

This is a very good point indeed and there is no denying it.

So to recap:

4) No Advert FREE Money Making Micro Payment Business Model

That's one of the really bitter pills. If at least they could do it really in-game, contextual and immersive, I could live with it.

What I mean by contextual is Advertising space inside docking bays, the advertisement panes around the port. Or Ads on the bulletin board maybe...

But I fear it is the usual "Full-Screen" aggressive not skippable annoying stuff marketing freaks consider as a "good Advertisement"... anyone who would like somebody pointing a gun to your head and force you to watch his advertisement? Would anyone consider buying the product after being forced and annoyed to death by their ads?

Can I just speak for the majority of players who have kept silent on this matter because frankly its getting out of hand now.

Offline is a no-no. Sorry. Move on if you feel aggrieved.

Can I just speak for the majority of unhappy players who have supported this project from day one and made it happen. Offline & DRM is a no-no. We are sorry for supporting FD. We are going to move on once they deal with this issue or issue refunds. :)

Cheers,

Nobody has had access to what they have paid for. Even ignoring the offline version, the home page right now is advertising an open Galaxy where players can "experience the 400 billion star systems of the Milky Way galaxy."

Have any of us seen that?

No, I didn't think so. We've been given various vertical slices of the game to test, in a restricted playing area. The people asking for refunds now, have not played the game that's described in FD's current marketing. It should be no skin off FD's teeth to offer those refunds, in any sense but the purely financial.

Sure, but that risk should be balanced against immediate damage control, to preserve enthusiasm for the launch date and keep this mess from metastasizing.

That argument again?
Here.
Enjoy.

And yes, it should be goodiebag. ^^

As one of this unhappy players, I have no problem nominating Papa Smurf as our spokesman. :)

(However, the forum won't let me give him rep. :()

No your not...Everything in a kickstarter is a challenge and risk.....( as in "Risk and Challenges of the kickstarter ) its not set in stone and things can change throughout the development.
Kickstarters fail after funding and sometimes people get nothing....you take that risk when you pledge money..

Once again:

This latest development is a clear breach of Kickstarter terms... PLEASE READ:

If your project is successfully funded, Kickstarter’s Terms of Use require creators to complete their projects and fulfill all rewards as promised. If you are unable to fulfill all of your project’s rewards, you should make every reasonable effort to find another way of bringing your project to a satisfying conclusion for backers. Steps should include offering refunds, and detailing exactly how funds were used. For more information, see Section 4 of our Terms of Use. "

phase 1:
-FDs : support us , we are planning multiplayer along with offline experience

phase 2:
-FDs : thanks for the support, multiplayer experience is really cool and exciting

phase 3:
-FDs : game is soon to be released. BTW, we scrapped offline mode but multiplayer experience is really cool and exciting

phase 4:
- offline community: Why? You have promised us offline mode, we have paid for it!
-FDs : offline is not good for you and is not making us happy. It was so "tough" decision for us but we have to cut something out and multiplayer experience is so exciting. Why are you not excited?!
- online community: We got what we wanted, so shut up

phase 5:
- offline community: we feel betrayed and can not enjoy the multiplayer for various reasons. Can we get the explanation and refund
-FDs : we'll pretend nothing is happening
- online community: Take the refund and shut up! You are ruining the game!

phase 6:
- offline community: can we get some answers on refunding and why offline mode was abandoned?
-FDs : It was a tough decision. But details are very secret. What is done is done! anyway, offline mode might work if we want it to work... maybe when servers are not going to be profitable any more. ofcourse, we'll give you a refund. Now, let's talk about new anaconda skins and how exciting multiplayer is!
- online community: lets build a stake and burn the offliners, they want to destroy everything

phase 7:
- offline community: hey, all refund requests have been denied
- FDs: let's pretend we did the right thing...
- online community: see, you like the game, so shut up!

Of course, that is somewhat simplified.

We'll be all "I don't want to say 'I told you so', but... I told you so".

Let's look at the bright side... at least it'll bring the community back together again. :(

I won't be saying "I told you so" at all, but I can see it coming. I find it amazing how many people will tolerate questionable business practices as long as they weren't the ones affected. And then cast blame to the aggrieved for ruining things for those that aren't aggrieved. Fascinating case studies in human behavior can be written based on the posts in this thread.

I certainly hope that you're joking. Your idea of protest is to make someone elses life miserable? Your comment is despicable.

He's not the only one who thought about mentioning the main reason people don't like DRM... :D

In a previous post you called someone else's comment wrt Frontier as close to slanderous. The same is true of accusing people demanding the promised DRM free version, or a refund, of being pirates.

Meh... people will be doing that kind of thing "for fun" anyway; that kind of protest will go unnoticed against the general sociopathic background of multiplayer.

Of course its a joke , and even a despicable one but it is certainly an option... There is no way I'd actually do that but my point really is that without offline we will see some of this behaviour ( not from me ) and have too accept it. This is why many of us really did want offline ...

I think more sales will come of this 'negative' issue than people asking for refunds and saying they won't play it.

That is great news. Then there is absolutely no reason to fear handing out refunds to everyone that is asking for them.

Knowing how vast this game is and how little in numbers the people who will do this moronic thing are, I suppose I can muster the courage to click on that ignore list button when I see one.

The joy of Kickstarter.. Maybe it's better when game studios depend on their publisher after all, hmm..?

/trolling mode off

On a serious note, i am more concerned with the overall shallowness of the game ATM than with obligation for a good internet line on player's side. I played for one week after PBeta 1 arrived and the game is shelved since then, up until military career/planetary landings DLC i suspect. I can concentrate and find a place to plug my computer into internet, but i can't make this game engaging no matter how hard i concentrate..

So, "btw we are planning to release an offline version too" in the planning stages of the game and changing the plans to get the overall project succeed equals questionable business practices?

As for the refunds etc, the terms for digital products in UK seemed pretty clear, if you download and play it, you're not getting a refund.

very dissapointed with this- I also wanted offline mode for times when internet is down/moving places etc

This is uncalled for-single player could have had both an online mode for all the shebang and an offline mode for when thats not possible

Now we have yet Another online only game which frustrates me and goes against what I paid the money in good faith for.
