No Single Player offline Mode then?

I do not see FD losing millions (although I could be wrong). I'm sure they will lose a small (?) chunk of customers that only want the online game but I believe the game FD is developing is superior to the game we (or they even) anticipated. That surely will attract more (?) customers?
And who knows what the future may bring, folks!? Frontier may have more time in the future and decide to provide the offline niche with a game that is virtually the same, albeit with a completely regenerated galaxy?
I am not going to crucify FD for not being able to make offline work. Obviously others feel differently.

I really don't have the time to read all of the posts, but I backed the project SOLELY on the fact that the game WOULD HAVE SINGLE PLAYER MODE.

So who do I speak to in order to get my money back? I WILL NOT be playing online, I do not care for online gaming. PERIOD.

I'll see if I can do a chargeback based on misrepresentation of product and or false advertising.

well..their policy right now is "open a ticket in the store and we'll see" on a case by case basis

This is really sad, I understand peoples frustration with no offline mode, but the way some in the community have turned is ridiculous.

If you paid early you honestly can't blame anyone else, regardless of promises, ect. wait until a game is released before deciding. I personally dumped a good portion into the kickstarter campaign and I'm still happy. My main worry is will I get to play 5 years down the road, or will I have to load up First Encounters again. However the vile attitude of some is unwarranted.

A bit O/T but how is the AI in the npc,s in solo mode at this moment in time..a real genuine question and any answers will be much appreciated.Thank you

Personally, I find the AI to be ok... not up to human standards but that is obvious. The problem I have with the NPC's is the complete lack of interaction and the fact that they are rarely hostile unless you are wanted.

Playing online is not much different to playing solo (online), well at least at the moment... very little interaction with other players and when there is interaction, its generally a refreshing change and not as hostile as you may think. This is of course aside from the current lag issues and poor comm's system but, we are in beta and as mentioned previously, there is a lot of debug code running in order to help find the issues.

Hopefully these things will improve massively... B2 was much better for me than B3.

I just hope they can make it a more seamless experience, solo wins in this department for me at the moment.. overall better performance (i.e exiting SC) and less issues which appear to be caused by connectivity, i.e docking requests / waiting to enter the hangar etc.

If we assume that is true, that's going to mean huge volumes of network traffic, which means no end of problems for anybody with an insufficiently rapid network connection, volumetric data charges or a monthly data cap...

It will also not be a fundamental design change made in the last three days - the lead time on changes of that magnitude would be months not days, so arguably anybody who bought into ED between the decision being taken and it being announced was quite literally defrauded...

Not really. ED client is PG universe at it is - Milky Way galaxy generated according to seed. What server adds is everything else. No, there's no huge amount of traffic, although there is considerable one.

Now, FD plan was to take server part, cut it down to acceptable minimum, stick it as service on your computer, and have client running with it. Turned out that they can't get it work - I suspect for multiple reasons.

Decision? Decision come most likely during Beta 2. One is to know they can't do it way they planned. Another is to decide what to do further.

I find the grandiloquence on the forums that Frontier will "crash and burn" because of this to be rather disgusting.

Were talking about peoples lives here. You're basically saying that hundreds of people should loose their jobs, be unable to support their families because you DON'T GET SINGLE PLAYER. You have maybe lost a few pounds at most.

Quite frankly I find it sociopathic to think that

Or, more simply, a broken promise when financial backing was involved. Take your pick. The people you speak of are of no consequence to those in charge.

Thank you for your reply FX2K..have some rep...cheers

I think you might be over-estimating the % of people who care about an offline single player mode only in this game.

I'm not saying it's not sizable but I very much doubt it's anywhere near a few million to them. If this straw poll is anything to go by https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=59074

Also, events like this don't tend to hang around too long - sure there are people on here who won't forget but most gamers will jump on the next controversy and leave this one behind.

To add to this, I find the grandiloquence on the forums that Frontier will "crash and burn" because of this to be rather disgusting.

Seriously? No, I mean seriously? I even said that I don't think FD will go under because of that. Where did I say that I want FD to go under anywhere in this post?
Please point it to me [snip]

Do I read the newsletter 49 correctly - no Single Player Offline?
No reason why it cant be done.

They just need to create a localhost server (basically a copy of the master SQL server) for offline play. Not hard, nor rocket science. Not even a big job, mostly a case of running a slim-lined version of it locally and saying "ConnectTo=127.0.0.1".

Rather lazy and "convenient" for the devs to dismiss this if i'am honest.
Considering how much the "multiplayer" feels like an alpha prototype, its not looking promising for the future of this game.

So broken promise these days is green light for petty payback? Just wondering.

Not my call. I'm just stating the situation, neither a proponent or opponent, of either view point. I'm attacking hyperbole only, speaking which, "payback" is a perfect example. Search my posts, no where have I said that "go get your monies, make FD go broke".

Surely you should go to the store first as there is the option there, anything else is really just trying to cause unecessary drama and comes across as quite hysterical.

If they refuse then take it elsewhere.

It wouldn't even matter if you didn't live somewhere pretty shoddy. You wouldn't even think about it. Complain to your ISPs or something.

My advice is move to Estonia. They have great internet connection there. Way better than Florida.

U.S.A number two! U.S.A number two! U.S.A number two! U.S.A number two! U.S.A number two!

Jesus.

Wow.. 308 pages (so far) of griping about the inability to play in offline modes.
The kickstarter targets and aspirations are exactly that - targets and aspirations - or promises that they would TRY and include all of the things they had promised, however it was NOT a promise that they would compromise their product in any way to achieve all of them.
This is FD's game, they make the decisions on what makes the final cut based on what they see as the best option to them at the time of release, very much like the director of a movie decides what scenes to leave in or cut from the final release version of a movie. If FD feel that an offline only mode would not show off their product to the absolute best of it's potential then they have the right to cut it or to change how it works.

I currently live in the middle of a desert in the middle east and rely on an intermittent mobile internet connection (although it is improving) to connect and play many online games. I knew I was signing up for an online game, the fact that offline was a potential extra was a bonus but not a deal breaker. If it was a deal breaker for you then you should have waited until release before commiting anything.

Anyway, for those of you who must have the offline only experience, the link below will take you to the PC Gamer top 100 games - most of these are offline only, so I'm sure something will keep you happy...
