No Single Player offline Mode then?

I could not care less about offline.

The fact is that everything in the KS was subject to change, the offline mob don't seem to understand this.

The way FD handled breaking the news could have been done a LOT better mind you.

The angry mob have done the real damage though, I'm waiting to see if they have done enough to kill this game for us all, time will tell.

quite the irony, if the game will get killed, will you play the offline mode right?
oh!...

Everything they have done is to make a game, or at least almost make a game. The one little shortcoming is that they promised one game and delivered another, different one. That's quite a lot more than one little shortcoming, it's their reason for being a company, to make games.

It's the same game. This is, sadly, the level of hyperbole that's taken this thread up to over 300 pages.

The core fundamentals of the topic were resolved about 250 pages back. Now it's just this. Arguing subjective definitions to validate anger value.

It's the same game. I get it, a few won't be able to play it now, but that would be like saying a change in minimum specs was promising one game and delivering an entirely different one.

The kick starter t&cs clearly cover this. For everyone else, there's the refund process.

For those who are still going to play and are just upset.

It's not going to change. They can't do offline mode. It's not a matter of persuasion. They're not going to compromise online mode.

It's not happening. No amount of definition debate will change it.

Same game only some people who can't be bothered to sort out internet but still somehow consider themselves as gamers see it as a different game.

No excuses, connection to the internet is not a thing of the future. Dongles, phones etc all can provide the connection that allows the game to connect enough to be played online.

If you haven't got the money then you need to get that sorted not blame FD. If you decide to go traveling and for some odd reason have no dongle etc again not FD's fault.

Whatever we say tho makes no difference these people have set their position and will remain angry and destructive no matter what is said.

It got boring 200 pages ago, descended into idiocy around 150 pages ago and is now but a open cesspit for the crazies to spill their bile into.

Lets compare the lack of offline to the Ebola outbreak again shall we ? That was my personal highlight of the thread.

What about when I am at sea and have no internet, ever consider that?? I didn't think so.

problem is, that's not only a kickstarter problem, they sold the game on their store too

Another problem with online only play, talking about 'David Braben's vision for ED', is that you have to play the version of the game that the current developers (who may not be in any way related to David Braben) want you to play. So if ED ends up in the hands & ownership of some muppets who decide that ED would make more money if they turned it into Call of Duty in Space, or found some other way of rendering it toxic and unplayable, and they release a horrible update that ruins the game, you are stuffed. You can't walk away and carry on playing the 'last good version', you either have to embrace the change and start charging up those killstreaks etc, or... well, that's your lot, game over player one. This is a worse scenario than Frontier just going bust and leaving ED orphaned, at least in that case it might prove possible for the community to run its own servers... if somebody buys the IP, buys out ED, either as Frontier crashes & burns or because they make an offer too crazy for Braben to refuse, then welcome to an extended torture session where each subsequent mandatory patch 'improves the game worse' until you positively hate playing it or give up & kiss your investment in the game goodbye... and there is literally nothing you can do about it until you do quit, nor will the lost gameplay or vision ever be recoverable in the future, leaving you permanently tortured by what might have been...

So there's that...

You know Microsoft, Sony, EA and others have been forced to roll over on this exact same sort of issue, right?

Simple answer, if you aint got tinternet don't play it.

If that aint good enough for ya then get a refund / rant / throw your dummy in the corner etc. I don't really care tbh.

321 pages in and it still goes on...

I do understand your grievances but its like locking the stable door once the horse has bolted. If this is the decision that FD has taken, whining about it isn't going to change it now.

Nor is poking the people who are genuinely mad about the whole thing with talk like "get over it". I'm not sure if you're familiar with human nature but that does not work. "You're right, Internet Guy--I'm gonna get over it!" or "I'm mad, this thing sucks, I'm gonna argue with this guy on the internet rabble rabble!"--which is the more likely scenario? Things do not blow over because they have been told to do so. This mess isn't going anywhere anytime soon.

What about when I am at sea and have no internet, ever consider that?? I didn't think so.

yes i considered that and frankly if you go to sea why is that FD's fault..You decided to go to sea, get a grip.

How about if i decide to live in a cave?...Oh that's right i should blame FD for no access to the internet!...or maybe just maybe i should consider the fact that going to live in a cave might affect my gaming...

Hey, I have an idea. Can someone play Solo mode and monitor network traffic? How many bytes are actually exchanged during play, and how often?

this thread is becoming too violent.

too many people unaffected by the problem blatantly troll-baiting for no apparent reason

calm down or they will lock the thread
well actually, what happens if they lock this thread?

Agree... a locked thread will help nobody ..... the same as right now to split the Community.
We all want ED ...yes even if you don´t believe me..... but the big point is ALL.
We all want this wonderfull experience but again ..... the big point is ALL.
You really will lost much if now all go which don´t can/want play online .....
But maybe you think...let them go, but what is that for an Community, which don´t take care aboutAll...
All side have said heavy not so nice things...common forget about it and lets work together as Community, or we only a Community where it not allowed to have there own opinion?

So there's that...

Maybe making our own servers is the answer to this problem. Just cut out FD from the game completely.

Threats of lawsuits, chargebacks, DDOS attacks, personal verbal attacks, spreading of misinformation. There have been plenty of these things in this thread.

Which is completely not the way to express your disappointment, and really just creates more problems. One obvious one is the sudden 'hating' towards those of us that have no choice but to request a refund. If i could spare the bandwidth to play ED online i would, but there is a reason i remain a non MMO player and don't use services like Steam, and my internet usage is very low (maybe an hour a day).

I want ED to do well, us Elite fans have been waiting how long for Elite '4' now? over a decade atleast. The Kickstarter however mentioned SP, and that was why i backed, and SP has constantly been mentioned until very recently. Maybe they can put SP in later, i'd certainly be open to holding off on my refund request if that was the message coming from FD, but the tone of the announcement and the subsequent posts by Frontier have not made it sound like this is an option. SP offline Elite (like we have always enjoyed the game) is gone, which also means so is my ability to play the game in any meaningful way.

I don't know how the rest of you play a game of Elite, but for me it sucks me right in and i've been known to pull 14hour shifts lost in the Elite universe (from original to FFE). THAT is a game of Elite to me, so having to do just an hour here or there would really ruin that traditional experience for me. Elite is no 'casual' game, it requires you to put the time in, and sadly in an always online game that time = bandwidth usage.

Offline mode removes that problem completely, and means you have the game 'for good' (as in i still play FFE today).

But yeah we need to keep it in perspective, we need to understand (both sides of this debate) that it is not a 'them vs us' situation, we are all (i hope) Elite fans, and this really is just all about those of us that through no fault of our own, may not have the best 'in the city' internet connections and were backing ED with our money for the prospect of playing it SP mode, like we have done in the past with the other Elite games.

In general it has been disappointing to see the level of anger here, aimed at both Frontier AND each other. I think sadly it reflects badly on all of us.

this is talking, have some rep :)

Yeah, remember when MS wanted the kinect on all the time, watching you do stuff... and stuff? Remember how that totally completely didn't happen because people raised such a fuss? But hey that was just lil ol' Microsoft and all, I'm sure FDEV's immutable and immaculate vision is far more resilient!
