What happened to this comunity?! While I was not very active on this forum, I followed it closely. One of main reasons why I didn't bothering participating was it was so full of excellent ideas that I had nothing to add. And the whole atmosphere was friendly.
In the light of that, I really do not understand the level of hate the "online players" are expressing toward "offline players". While I did not expected for players who prefer online gameplay experience to be sad or to fight for offline gameplay mode, I have hardly expected that many hate against forum members that were hoping for single player offline Elite. And let me remind you that these "lesser" offline players are the people that actually helped and contributed financially and with ideas so we coul'd all get the game we want. Now "online players" got what they wanted and want "offline players" (who are rightfully upset for not getting the game they have paid for and helped to develop) to shut up. Is it so hard to understand that:
- not all people enjoy online gameplay
- offline solo gameplay was promoted, announced and promised to be part of the game by FD from the start and some people may be feeling as victims of fraud after dropping off single player - since FDs have been marketing entirely different product
- many people bought and supported the game exclusively for solo offline gameplay
- not all people have permanent internet connection and that is not only for that they live on Mars or in some strange "lesser" country, but because of various reasons including business trips
- people have strange habit of expecting to be able to play the game they have bought anywhere and anytime they like
- dependance on servers is good and "exciting" until game developer decides it's not profitable any more
- some of us hated EVE online because it was not like Elite. And now they are making Elite more similar to EVE online than we have evere wanted (with griefers and many other "exciting" online experiences and feature)
- It's not harder to make single player than multiplayer. Actually it's much more harder to make multiplayer due sync, connectivity and all other issues. There were simply no will to make offline singleplayer right from the start. And that brings us to the major problem. FDs were dishonest and were misleading the part of Elite comunity. At least some of us are feeling that way
- also it is hard to understand the need for constant internet connection over the market prices. All of that can be done offline as it was done Frontier.
Seems that with this move to abandon offline gameplay FDs not only dissappointed lots of fans and supporters but actually managed to start the war within the comunity.
Hope that "online players" will finally understand that "offline players" are not a threat for them. They just feel cheated, abandoned and disrespected.
