No Single Player offline Mode then?

Simply use the "search thread" function and search for "Michael Brookes" and you will get all his statements about it!

His statements are strange and not very explanatory. The more I am reading that statements ,the more I'm sure that from the start they knew they are not going to do the single player offline. Since nobody even asked it to be as dynamic as multiplayer. they have just been deciving a good part of comunity.

honestly, after 20 years of waiting that was the last thing I have expected from DB and FDs. It's just too bad to be true!

if any of these people are remotely interested in the game, a quick google and actually reading an article properly will inform them that the singleplayer mode isn't being dropped.
-snip-
frankly sick of all the drama, and looking forward to a few months after release when all the casuals have gone onto the *next big thing* so we can play it in peace and look forward to the updates fd have in store
True, and most reviews after release will state as much. Yet it still should be clarified; most news on ED is older than the newsletter, and therefore newcomers - who are always welcome - could be mistaken into thinking that Singleplayer is dropped based on the gaming websites' latest news.

Lets just assume for a second that ED is eventually available on steam...
Someone comes along and buys it....installs via steam and plays......How does that differ from what we have ?

Now I know some games have offline mode on steam but not all .... Again how will it differ from what's available to us now ?

Steam is DRM too. What does it change? Nothing. I don't see the connection.

Isn't that something they could have had a committee meeting about when they were first developing a game...

"You know. George. I assign you the task of creating the offline module of the game."
"That's too complicated.
"Ok. We'll remove it from the KS goals."

This is why it's leaving a really sour taste. The original pitch did not include an offline mode, it was added after it was clear that there was demand for it. The people who wanted it handed over their cash and then find out two years later that the promised mode has been scrapped. I don't doubt Michael Brookes when he says that they tried to include the mode but couldn't, but the circumstances in which it was addled late to the Kickstarter, and FD's subsequent lack of communication over the mode's developmental problems, make things look shady as hell even if they weren't.

Nothing. Steam is just a delivery platform... one that DB has already ruled out.

I'm not really sure of the point you are making.

:S

Your conscience, mostly. You wouldn't steal a jacket from a shop would you?

When people have no money, they will do anything to get the things they want, this is the way of things unfortunately.

I have 400 games on Steam btw, I used to download pirate games but since steam came along I have changed my ways , The lord Gaben saves.

So in reality gog and steam are in the same boat DRM or no, because if steam is gone and the chances of that happening are next to nil, I just go to abandonware/torrent too , yes?

gog and steam are both digital download sites, but use different models

Steam was developed to allow more profits from selling valve games digitally. This helps combat piracy and well as pay for physical media (install cds/dvds, physical box and manual). Since 1998, Steam has been adding other non-Valve software to be purchased. Steam is a DRM, but allowed both online and offline play (unless the game is online only). All downloads are installed via steam model.

Gog is a service that allows digital downloads of older games, and some newer games...mostly indie games. All software purchased on gog is DRM-Free. You know the rest when it comes to downloading.

I hope that helps.

There was push for it. Not more like demand. It didn't bring that much money too.

Are you sure, I'm guessing that English is not your first language, but from my perspective his posts are reasonable, polite and consistent.
  • they tried to do offline but it was a lot harder than they anticipated
  • they thought long and hard about whether or not to drop offline as they didn't want to
  • eventually they decided that they couldn't create an online mode they were happy with and an offline mode they were happy with
  • therefore they had to choose which one to drop
  • they decided to drop the offline mode.
I am not seeing any deception there.

Of course if you take the point of view that FD are hiding something and MB is a liar then nothing he says will convince you otherwise.

Here's a test. What would MB have to say to convince you that what he has laid out is the truth? What evidence would he have to provide?

So first of all. Procedural and a changing universe.
Of course this would be possible on a single pc. You don't need to simulate every pc. You use a scaled simulation, depending on the players position. So for example, the system the player is in, simulates all NPCs directly. Physics, etc. only by NPCs near the player. Then the near system is simulated with only NPC states. Number of NPC ships, factions, position, type of the NPC ships and possible aswell the skills of them. So the data could let other ships jump inside from there. In systems more far away, you only simulate the faction data and their strength. Many large gameworlds in single player games act like this.
...

But as i said MULTIPLE times: The experience wouldn't be the same!

Imagine now flying into a conflict zone seeing a big war going on between two big factions. Then you fly out and return after some days. So what should happen? The conflict still going on? Or was it completely randomized? Or - and this is more what we would expect - the conflict has evolved!!! But this to happen means that their has been some calculation going on between.
It's simply much more complex if you want to simulate something authentic!

It's like simulating a whole human body and saying that the player is only a drop of blood and only its sourrounding needs to be simulated - that's simply not true! If you really want to simulate that human body in a comprehensible manner you can't simply simulate "your sourroundings only". That isn't going to work if you want for example simulate how the body reacts on a viral infection over days/months. To do so you need to simulate it correctly and fully!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (And that's what FD want to do!)
Even if you are only a drop of blood! ;)

You have any point with your stupid and invalid Questions, or you just want to troll?

Having an DRM Free Installer is like having an Install CD.
But your install CD may contain a copy protection and if it scratched you have nothing left.
But a DRM Free .exe you can copy on multiple spots: Hard Disk, Backup Harddisk and Dropbox.
And backup your gog and paypal eMails as well, as this may document your legal purchase.
