Please, can someone from the FD give us some more detailed explanation that does not insult the common sense and inteligence?
I'd like that (I even posed the question to Michael earlier in the thread, but understandably it probably got lost). It would put an end to the speculation by explaining in no uncertain terms where the complexity lies.
I mean, FFE worked well offline and many of us played it for years and enjoyed it even without fancy dynamic stuff and "exciting posibilities".
Of course it did, but it got very samey after a while. ED is a different beast; Frontier clearly don't just want to create an FFE clone -- after all, if they did we'd all be complaining about that instead -- but want to create something bigger and more dynamic. That's been clear from the outset.
Your explanations are just suspicious as much as requirement to be online all of the time to play the game. some of us pledged exclusively because of offline play and we deserve answers. This is terribly unpleasant situation and I do not want to be forced to ask refunds. Why are you treating us like criminals since we have supported you?
Try to avoid the hyperbole if you want your post to be taken seriously. You aren't being treated like a criminal at all. Frontier have given you answers in the form of Michael's explanations. They may not be the answers you were looking for, but they're answers all the same. I feel Frontier could still improve on their communication -- an email or forum announcement would be better than individual posts in a mammoth thread -- and DB probably ought to be saying something, but fair play to Michael that he's come out and explained the decision.
what with us that need to pause the game due to other things we have to do or when we are on trips and want to play elite? Not all of us can afford to play most of the day or uninterrupted for hours. Your decision is very uppseting.
Many of us are in the same boat. I have a full-time job that sometimes takes me away from home, a small child and a house to keep. Elite will give me some entertainment other than watching TV in the evenings. I'm sure there'll be occasions where I'm being told to do the ironing, or when the folks pop round for a visit. Or the phone rings, or the little one sets something aflame. Yes, I'll have to quit the game and yes, I might lose some progress (I might even lose a
lot of progress). But that's life and it's just a game. I'll deal with it, pick up the pieces and move on. I find that being rational and pragmatic makes stressful situations more manageable. That's probably the Vulcan in me.
and, no, this is not just some minor feature, this is a game mode that is Frontier and Elite itself!
It's what the old games were, because that's what the technology of the time supported. Remember that back then, some people couldn't play the game because they couldn't afford a computer to play it on, or said computers weren't available where they lived. So as today some people won't be able to play the game because they don't have reliable internet access. It sucks, it surely does, and I'm sure that the people who really can't play the game will get a refund. But Frontier have been clear on this: they see ED as being a dynamic, connected game world and not a static, predictable one as per the previous incarnations. I
hate how this whole thing has played out, it's awful that some people were really looking forward to the offline mode, but I also understand why and how it has happened. And I think that in the short-term it's best to concentrate on the online "vision"; whether it's for the best in the long term, only time will tell.
