No Single Player offline Mode then?

Other than that, go ahead. Get your refund, and take legal action to get even more money you really shouldn't have - and let's just kill Frontier's creativity and vision. That's exactly what you want, no?

I'm not intending to persue court action. But I wanted to talk to my solicitor and get a better understanding of the legal technicalities around this, I wanted to be informed and have the full understanding of the facts, because at this point I feel information is something is lacking.

I've been chatting on and off with him about something unrelated that I've had to deal with over the last week, so I decided to borrow a bit of his time and ask him some questions after David's Q and A and get a lay of the land about this. He's said a lot of this isn't tested in court, so it would create precedents, but as far as he can see, the main contradiction right now is the existence of Online Solo. Whilst that exists, everyone who's arguing for a refund -has- a case, and FDEV -has- a problem to solve both in regards to kickstarter and in regards to consumer protection laws. If they remove Online Solo, the problems all go away, albeit in the worst possible manner for everyone involved, it makes the game an MMO, which changes the legal definitions around it, as then it also satisfies the technical definitions around the reward tier of a "DRM free copy of the game".

In other words, everyone gets what they want, but not how they wanted it.

Please tell me nobody is taking this guy seriously.

That made my day.

Sells his account with less than a month until gamma to go and and will now wait 2 years for Star Vaporware.

I'm actually quite amazed at the evenhanded responses in that thread. That was actually the one thing that made my eyebrows shoot off into low orbit. (I hope they land soon.)

Simple solution to no offline mode forum rants.

Step 1: Sit on the floor and take a deep breath...
Step 2: Hold it in...
Step 4: Keep holding it in....
Step 5: Watch spots appearing in front of eyes (like stars!)..
Step 6: Keep holding it in..
Step 7: Imagine the tunnel blacking out visuals is like the Hyperspace jump in ED.. keep holding..
Step 8: Hold on untill your lungs are burning..
Step 9: Inhale deeply then shout out.. Hyperspace Jump in 5, 4, 3, 2, 1..
Step 10: Stand up as fast as you can, blackout, and give the rest of us who like the online only idea, 5 mins of peace.

David Braben has spoken about how scalable the Cobra engine is. What you see now is only what can be run on todays hardware.
If they decided to they could crank up the detail and the resolution, bringing our puny machines to their knees.

Quite ironic really how they did a whole speech about how the game graphics are future proof, and then ditch the one game mode which has a guaranteed future.

I dont think so.....
First of all this cheat mode and bot mode will be removed.
Second ....many fear real Multiplayer, so that maybe FD must think about offline.
Because especially ED shows what a trained pilot can do and without cheat mode not so much will try it...

I don't think getting into a legal discussion is going to do anything other than potentially mislead. Forums are not a good place to get legal advice.

Do your research, and consult your relevant legal advice, they'll tell you the same. There's now fairly fixed legal terms for various things such as "MMO" and "game" and "Software", god bless intellectual property litigation and particularly Blizzard's stance towards botting creating court precedents all over the place.

You would be able to get a refund on the standard game pre-order anyway, removal of offline would have no impact.

Will be interesting to hear from anyone with a beta or premium beta purchase.

My premium beta has been denied. Not giving up yet though.

'Trained pilot', you mean a kid playing a game. big difference there.

You must be joking !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Your solicitor for a beta game !

My honest advice to you : get a life, with kids and a wife , mortgages and insurance and taxes and declining employment and pollution and and and and and, then you have things to worry about !!

If this attitude wasn't so depressing it would be hilarious ...

I think it was the Greeks that stated comedy is close to tragedy ! they were right.

Cheers Cmdr's

Yup... I'll consult my 'relevant legal advice'. Don't go anywhere, I'll be right back and tell you what my team has to report.

And that's great, you're doing your research. What we've learned from the DB Q&A session earlier today is that communication is important, lest backlash be harsh. And I think that was the part that surprised me most. I've been let down by others in my life, various reasons, won't go in to it, you don't care anyway ( ;) ), but this was... well let's just say it hit the rage-ball out of the park. AFAIK, legally you are possibly entitled for a refund. Good. You can get your money back that you put in, and you got to play X hours for free.

So, you're actually better off?

Wait, why were we talking legalities again?

(Note: Appreciate you were trying to inform yourself, but given the tone of others I'd expect a class-action lawsuit before BBC Breakfast comes on in the morning).

Lastly, that wonderful Fuzzy Tiger... you can also go enjoy the game, right now.

Go have fun, and fly safe :)

(though if I see you, and you have a wanted status, I will assuredly attempt to interdict you and fly straight in to a planet :D )
