No Single Player offline Mode then?

Is it 'keeping' money? Or is it because they've already spent it on development? According to wiki FD is some 240 people and have been working on this for 2 years already... It's not like it's being used to light cigars whilst cackling at people's inability to read the KS terms properly.

Frontier are cash rich. They made a loss in the last financial year, but that was expected... and down to E: D development costs.

They could refund people's money if they chose to.

It appears they are choosing not to.

Community's move, I think. :S

ne" mode that we seem to have been given instead of an offline mode is a complete joke. What's the point of single player if you can't stop or pause it when you need to? And pretending that this somehow "isn't like DRM" is just insulting. At least with normal DRM you can stop the game and come back to the same point later. That is not an option here, because it's somehow important to share a persistent universe with people you're not playing the game with...

DRM, Digital Rights Management, is a horrible thing and I oppose it in principle. That's a very long conversation and not for here. But at any point did you not have to provide a username and password to play the game? I ask this seriously, because a lot of people seem to think that's what DRM is, and shows just that they don't know what the term means. Because all the time I've played this, it's asked me for a username and a password and required a connection to an authentication system before it would let me go fly.

Was it actually different for you at some point?

Even if it made the game worse?

Michael

Finally this is just like a bunch of kids in a toyshop screaming like there getting abused from there mother, all invite attention making,
but in fact just Because mother is only buying the smaller version of the toy there want.

Call me Ignorant or whatever but this is Exactly what this is all about.

You are Ignorant. I have read most of the 8000+ posts and this is not at all about abused children... Sorry for feeding the Troll.

This is just going round in circles again.

If you genuinely feel you should get a refund, take the fight to the company, not the community.

DRM debate will go on for years.

This thread is linked on a dozen gaming sites now, it affects the community and this community is well established and is one of the best game assets Frontier have.

That's what forces me to read it. Think about how this is affecting others.

Btw, that's very noble of you. On the other hand, have you stopped to consider the effect of dropping a promised feature like SP offline at the last minute, has on others in this very same community? Or do they just not count?

So, in other words - as your words and actions seem to bear out - your intent is not to gain restitution for any harm, but to harm the community and everyone in it.

Well done. Slow clap.

Seems to me he isn't looking at you or the community for a refund.

It's not noble, it's entirely selfish. I want to play online open with a great community of people who have helped shape the game.

Frontier scrapped SP offline, they've lost that part of the community. Yet they are still here affecting everyone else.

FD Company Biography:

Frontier Developments built on the work of its founder, David Braben, who has been in the games industry now for thirty years this year, starting with "Elite" in the early 1980s. Frontier has offices in the UK and Canada, and is the award-winning team behind global hits including Disneyland Adventures; the Kinectimals series; RollerCoaster Tycoon® 3, and LostWinds®.

Do you guys honestly believe that the decision for off-line mode was done few days ago after reading their bio? Your kidding yourself if you do. This decision was done months ago and why do you think they didn't post or ask anyone for their opinion?
Because they didn't care... now they need to make some "hard" decisions and actually rebate people who are not happy with their decision. Yet they continue to refuse to stand by those that supported you in your time of need to fund your project. You continue to hide behind the letter of the law while operating in complete defiance to the principles of an open and cooperative community that you consider yourself to be a part of. You have brought shame to yourselves, your company, and your reputation.

Yet what do they do? Shove the head dipper into the sand!

"Guys, I know they took something you wanted, but I'm still happy, so stop writing in my forum!"

On the contrary if FD scrapped Online portion of the game you gents/ladies would still have my support!!! Just because I enjoy playing the game on my own terms when I have a spare moment doesn't mean that I have the urge to tell other people how to play and what internet connection they should have/get.

So I guess you would be fine if they cut the online part and gave you heart felt platitudes right?

Looks like you might have a little boot polish on your tongue there.

Your analogy is an example of false equivalency. Online play was all that ever worked in gameplay videos. Furthermore, you are not simply getting heart-felt platitudes, but a product and service that you have been enjoying and using.

I am extremely wary of buy-in Betas. You should be as well. As we have seen with this situation and many like it, software development is subject to change. Its not malicious, its just the way things work.

Lastly, I know the second part is not directed at me, but there is no need for insults.

They are only affecting you because you come in here looking at it. It's kind of funny how people act surprised when they go looking for trouble and then actually find it.

Anyway, I suppose if they felt that they were treated fairly, they probably would go away or at least stop complaining. Playing these games with refunds is NOT going to help that situation. Let them have it and be done with it. Or.....I guess just deal with what was created by the devs.

Face it, there wouldn't even be people in here raising hell if they hadn't first been provoked. So don't blame them. Blame the people who created the angst in the first place. Actions have consequences you know.

It is not a false equivalency, but that is beside the point. You are making assumptions. I never enjoyed or used. Lastly, if the boot fits, wear it.

Poet, what exactly is your status?
Did you back the Kickstarter?
Did you buy into the Beta?
Are you unable to play the game due to the cancellation of Offline Solo mode?

No, you are doing generic forum argument #326, I have explained why this thread is damaging, stop trying to get me angry at Frontier.
