Nobody for ironman?

I'll likely be playing Ironman as my main game. But only after I've spent some time in normal mode learning how the galaxy works.

It seems a little crazy to me to jump straight into Ironman mode, without getting at least a little practice in first. But maybe Alpha/Beta will give me enough confidence to believe I know what I'm doing :D

Be ye a griefer or a pirate, captain Black? 'Cause pirates are all right in my book. ;)

Would liek to keep that as a secret. Let the gameplay show who we are. Would like to keep it in purelly RP style if You guys dont mind :).

PS : I know Ive been probally arleady shelved as greifing bloodthirsty grief griffing grief ... I Am aware (but like I said - RP).

I'm up for Iron Man mode.

Of course, after I've lost the fifth time, shouting "IT'S NOT MY FAULT!" like Han Solo, I will probably crawl back to regular immortal commander mode. :)

targets.
I would assume the griefer mentality is generally pretty casual. They want to cause grief, pwn some noobs, go shooty-bang for a few hours in their underwear.

I, too, like to go shooty-bang for a few hours in my underwear, but hopefully not to the detriment of other players.

why will they?

***hypothetically***what would stop me and 5 mates from setting up a throwaway ironman slot, and us cruise around causing hell with our start ships - be it sidewinder or pirate upgraded cobra. when I die, I just restart and join the pack with my new guy.

The point is if you go around picking fights in Ironman, you won't last very long so will be forever stuck in a basic sidewinder....easy prey for a 'serious' player who has managed to heavily upgrade his ship through more cautious (i.e 'realistic') play.

I don't think it will attract people that don't want to grief you. Since this game is completely money based, and skill based. Meaning that I didn't see anything that says, you level up. So the only thing you lose by dying and going a normal player is your iron man wealth.
What I can see people doing, who love to grief, which they do basically the same thing in other games, like uncharted waters online. They will make another account. I am quite sure I read in the FAQ you are allowed to have more than one account. So they will use one to just store up iron man wealth, and instantly respawn back as a new iron man captain with a top tier ship. Totally by passing any danger of being iron man.
The only way I would do ironman, which I like the idea, is if players can't trade with each other. Or they figure out another way to stop that. In uncharted waters online, the downfall to being a pirate is that if you die to a player they get most of your bank. All pirates keep a second character logged on that holds their wealth.
And as the other guy said if you get a group of gerfiers then they don't even need 2 accounts.

Unlike uncharted waters online , which only has the earth as it's map, which is pretty huge. This has the whole universe, so I don't think dying to players will be a problem. We may find if they spawn us in at the same spot every time, a fleet of griefs just camping that spot, but I am pretty sure they said they don't allow that kind of behavior. Even in unchatered waters online where it's small compared to this, you rarely encounter a player pirate.

You can have multiple commanders but they don't interact. You can't take credits from one commander and give it to another. It specifically says so here: http://forums.frontier.co.uk/showpost.php?p=421730&postcount=2

When you die you will simply be a Normal pilot - same wealth, status, rating.

If you restart in IM you loose everything.

I will be an Ironman Pirate.

I hope to start in Ironman mode.

Upon dying, assuming I have put in enough hours, I will go single player online.

Unless somebody invites me to a nice group :)

Iron man mode, yes to start with perhaps and fingers crossed the space station behaves without bugs and the space traffic control within the station gets much better.

Sweaty hands docking an Anaconda in Ironman mode :)

All that says is that you can't trade between characters on one account. Also that they will deal with people abusing the system on a account to account bases. There would be no way for them to know if the person is trading with them selves, multi Ips, and ISPs would go around that. Not to mention you don't even need 2 accounts. As stated, you have friends, 2 of them make a commander that every one dumps wealth into. So when one dies, they just use that pool of wealth to get everything back. If you have 10 people putting money into the pool, you would have way more then enough to keep restarting ironman.
That is not even getting into the fact they plan on selling you in game credits. So if one of the people in your group is rich, and dumps 5 grand into the pool, you will just have a endless supply of ships. Also unless this is different that all the other mmos, which in this aspect I doubt it will be, there will be gold farmers trying to sell their credits for money.
The only thing I can see iron man used for is for competition between friends. To say hey look I made it to star blah, and I am still iron man. As for anything else there will just be to many people taking advantage of it, and it will lose its real achievement. Since people will just instant respawn with all the wealth.

I'll definitely try ironman, trying to look at it as a space roguelike. How far can you make it before your inevitable demise?

As for the gankers, let's see what FD does with it.

I'll be playing ironman with my primary player slot.

Depending on the game's general multiplayer performance I might choose online singleplayer mode..

In the beginning, I will also be playing regular multiplayer to test out the whole game ofcourse. See how multiplayer plays out. Do FD get a good handle on cheaters etc..

But ironman is definitely my thing :)

The bounty / criminality system would eventually take care of you all. Shooting on a lawful / clean pilot would net a bounty (shared if you are in an alliance). Eventually you would become wanted and the Police / Navy will take an interest. Combined with Bounty Hunters (NPC and PC) you will soon become a juicy target.

I personally welcome the gank squads - would add some much needed spice and drama to the game.

Elite "Dangerous" .. and so it shall be :)

That aside, I have suggested to FD to force a timeout on deleted character - you select to delete them and there is a delay of up to 7 days before it's wiped. Gives you chance to change your mind coupled with stopping people who want "throwaway" characters. You have 3 commander slots anyway so a normal person wouldn't mind this delay - only those who want to be naughty ;)
