Nobody for ironman?

1 of my avatars will certainly be Iron man and when he dies the next will be played as the descendant, so if you come across 'Commander Gauntlet XXVII' you'll know how poorly I play

I like the way you think. I did something similar with FTL but it got a bit depressing after a while!

I'm definitely going to give Ironman a try as I hope it'll add something to even the most boring of trade runs. I'll be more than happy if I can get far enough to kit out an explorer ship, head off to discover a rich mineable resource or unique artifact and make it safely back to civilisation to sell on my discovery.

The thought of a dead is dead mode back on Elite+ on the 286 with only a keyboard to control rotation is the stuff that nightmares are made of though.

I think Ironman Mode is is the only reasonable solution in this game for PvP, Multi and "All Group".

Otherwise it will be meaningless game......fight.....respown....fight......respown...fight....respown...etc...etc.
Very quickly this become annoying for people who are serious about this game.

... and the reason that gives you the feeling of being alone is that all players Ironman are hiding, and are very discreet because they do not want to be discovered in the game

:p

why will they?

***hypothetically***what would stop me and 5 mates from setting up a throwaway ironman slot, and us cruise around causing hell with our start ships - be it sidewinder or pirate upgraded cobra. when I die, I just restart and join the pack with my new guy.

Nobody on here has 5 mates

I kind of don't understand.

From what I've read here and in the Design forum, Ironman doesn't really mean perma-death, it just means you don't have the 'ironman' tag anymore, you just move into 'normal mode' with all your stuff?

That's kind of a bummer. I, for one, think that Ironman should be permanent. You die, you lose everything.

You will have two choices. Either you die and lose everything, and you must start a new game. Either you decide to switch to the normal mode by keeping your spaceships and weapons etc ... but you loose the Ironman status

Ahh.. is this something you choose initially, or after you die?

There are limited Commander slots, so keeping "retired" Ironman commanders is a bit of a luxury. More of a comfort factor than something that will frequently happen IMO.

Absolutely. I didn't mean to say that you couldn't start another Ironman career, basically erasing the one that died. I just think it's a little wishy-washy to allow someone that 'died' to just switch over to 'normal' mode and keep all their stuff.

To me, that goes against the whole idea of Ironman.

I had the same reaction. But the wealth were acquired in Ironman mode, thus with more difficult to acquire. Transfer the commander in normal mode with all its wealth, is not abusive, finally

I kind of agree, makes it so that there really is no reason not to start in Ironman.
