I don't have an OR, but it's possible that FD is not allowed to offer workarounds around it's hardware capabilities under some legalese. Farcebook may have given FD an infraction for wiggling stuff.

I've seen it done before. Tragic really.

What a load of nonsense, take your Anti-Facebook propaganda elsewhere and stick to facts.

Plenty of existing games and demos support render targets of 1920x1080 that get down-rezzed to 1280x800. In many cases this gives huge advantages in text readability and other fine detail. I always attempt to set the render resolution to 1080p if possible, and it was an option under PB1.

As both a DK1 and soon-to-be DK2 owner, it'd be great to maintain compatibility with both. I've raised a ticket for the current stereoscopic problems to help indicate its importance for the relatively small VR-owning community.

I also feel sorry for the Lavecon people, as they have specifically organised a bunch of DK1s to be available for attendees to try.

I need to get them to make an Oculus Rift for cats. That way Magnus can wear his Rift (Dev Kat 1) and watch birds and mice and stuff and stop crying at me so I CAN PLAY ED ALL DAAAY!

Whoa, relax! - Asp only said it was possible (which it was).

Just about enough time for FD to sneak out a small incremental update.

Fingers crossed.

Resolution problems with/without Oculus rift

I have 2 24" screens and oculus rift DK1 connected.
First i played in 2D and once i switched over to OR i couldn't go back to 1080p on my main screen, i can switch to secondary screen at 1080p but the primary stays on OR resolution even with oculus disconnected.
I tried all combinations to get it back to 1080p but without success, so i guess it is a bug.

Using Nvidia 680 gtx.
Latest beta drivers
win 8.1 x64

I really wish you hadn't done that.

My thread, was about the inability to select a larger resolution in the rift since PB2, which i was told is not a bug and to discuss here. Now im worried it will be lost in the nether in a 12 page thread about random things including DK2 shipping, sigh...

Could we have Michael Brookes chime in on this issue please?

Hmmm I don't see that...although I don't see anything that explains when it will be shipped. I am assuming because it's not saying anything then it must be the 1st batch.

Yay, thanks for the quick fix!

http://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=23385
  • Oculus fix – Ident is now rendered using orthographic projection
  • Oculus fix – now rendering star field at correct depth
  • Oculus fix – corrected camera positioning for each eye
  • Oculus fix – able to change resolutions even if the OR kit isn’t connected to graphics card

Apparently you still cannot select a higher resolution (well you can, but it ignores it and resets when you click apply.. :(

Although SSAA isn't available from the options menu, you can enable it in the config files.
Go to: "C:\Users\{username}\AppData\Local\Frontier Developments\Elite Dangerous\Options\Graphics"

Open the file "Settings.xml" (Notepad works if you don't have anything better)

Under where it says <GraphicsOptions> add the line:
<SSAA>1.5</SSAA>
That should mean the game is rendering at 1920x1200 and then downsampling to 1280x800. You can experiment with other numbers.

Can anyone confirm if this is working for them? I tried it and it doesn't appear to make a difference. Also, the setting gets removed from the config file automatically.

I managed to get the res running at 1920x1200 by editing displaysettings.xml

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" ?>
<DisplayConfig>
<ScreenWidth>1920</ScreenWidth>
<ScreenHeight>1200</ScreenHeight>
<VSync>true</VSync>
<FullScreen>true</FullScreen>
<PresentInterval>1</PresentInterval>
<Adapter>0</Adapter>
<Monitor>0</Monitor>
<DX11_RefreshRateNumerator>59950</DX11_RefreshRateNumerator>
<DX11_RefreshRateDenominator>1000</DX11_RefreshRateDenominator>
</DisplayConfig>

That worked for me too, thanks SmoothRolla!
-edit-
Oh, and thanks to Frontier too for fixing so quickly the other VR issues!

OK, so I'm about to come into a wad of cash (in a couple of weeks) that is burning a hole in my pocket already.

Top of my shopping list is probably DK2.

Should I? Or is the waiting list likely to be so long I might as well wait for the CV? :S

It would have to be a really long headset. Cats can't focus much on anything that's less than 2 feet in front of them. Amazing long & night vision though. :)
