News NPC AI, Engineers and Bi-Weave shields....

Oh no! :-( But the new AI is wonderful! Please don't nerf them too much, I know there's been a lot of noise on the forums but the poll done the other day suggested that the majority of people actually think the new AI is about right. Just be aware the vocal minority can really seem more significant in numbers than they in fact are.

They aren't touching the AI.

The only whining is me? Have you seen the forums?
I spent the entire weekend bounty hunting in a cobra. I died once and that was not due to a bug. I watched another player spend all day bountyhunting in a sidewinder and together we took out elite asps that were clearly moded without mods. The only ill informed person is you and the rest of the people on these forms who didn't give it a chance and just freaked and screamed take away engineers from the npcs because of some rare bug shown on youtube.

Ubi maior, minor cessat

Please don't make the AI stupid again.
It's nice knowing you can't win every fight anymore. I hope the high end NPC can still have a few mods. Its nice being surprised once in a while.

With the addition of private groups and the general lack of players on console it's hard to get PVP or a good solid fight outside of the same 10 people each time.

The AI remedied that. It gave us something to fear.

As it should, I felt like the AI was finally in its place among other commanders, and i didn't have beta to experience and test them out. I never really understood most of the complaints except the bugs and the lack of consistent rewards, that should've had priority instead of ridding modifications all together. I mean, all you need is a fair share of alpha, learn the weakpoints of each craft, observe your enemy and pick your engagement. Is that not combat and tactics?

so back to old crap when you could farm npcs while watching stream from other monitor... Sorry but to me this is very sad news. I do admit that I might be bit more experienced but I didn't have any issues with current AI, didn't matter that all pirates etc where elite, it was fun change, I had to work to win them, with this after I get my ships modified it will become very very boring and that way takes reason to play this game.

We're concious that we dont want to lose the great work on the AI right now. This is why we want to start by looking at the upgrades and the buf fixes and then take it from there.

How or if they are introduced is yet to be decided fully.

See Zac? That's what we wanted to hear. Thanks guys! :)

You can chek it Zac I've been killed by NPC just 5 times since early Beta, the last time was by a BOOSTED NPC which tear me to rags in seconds in a Vulture, while I'm in a well fitted Python.

I am of this camp as well.
I think folks jumped to grind credits and ships and neglected learning even the most basic of self defense methods and threat avoidance combat tactics.
Modded NPCs are scary-good to inspire your own stuff.

Thats right mate.

Ok then, if whiners forced FD to nerf the NPC i officialy declare becoming a griefer. If they dont want new NPC then they get me. From now i am opening fire to everyhing what i meet. Better stay on mobius or solo folks.

Thank you Zac. I hope the AI balancing works out for everyone.

Like any working compromise, I expect the aim would be to upset as few as possible - or upset everyone as equally as possible (as not everyone will get what they wanted with the change).

No, the NPCs are still improved. We're just taking a tactical approach to identifying what's causing the unbalanced issues. It could well be bugs or Engineer weapons but we'll keep you informed as we know.

Some nice ideas from people asking about the NPCs keeping some engineers weapons. It's certainly not something that we would rule out in future. Once we identify where the issues stem from we'll have a better idea of what's right for balancing.

This is exactly what a fair few folk will want to hear. I had no problem with the AI skillset improvement, but the massive hike in their weaponry was causing a fair few issues and this should help out the newer or more casual players until the balance can be further looked into. Great work guys, as always. Thanks for the updates as well Zac and team.

For a God sake! Zac! Do not nerf NPC. It was all of fun they HAD ENGINEERS MODS. They was unpredictable and UNIQUE, they attacked by heat, they was faster, agile, and THAT WAS THE POINT of a good change.
If you remove Engineers mods from NPC they will become boring again. Every NPC will be the same... again.
I was so happy from new NPC... i play all 3 days and i they was exactly that what I expected from Elite: Dangerous. You made a good change, that was the most important and cool upgrade to the game and You want to remove it now.

... just only fix the insta-kill bugs - they was the most annoying for players, and everything will be fine.

P.S.

I Carry a Deadly in combat rating and if that is the only factor that is going to allow for NPCs to carry mod weapons then im against it, myself and many others are NEVER going to use mods ever! I dont find it a gameplay style i enjoy so to keep things level mods should only be available to NPCs when its target also has them
