NPC scanning on foot within base

I just noticed that the station mission givers are quick to talk to you as well. You don't have to walk past them far when they start shouting about their mission for you. I think there should be at least some period of "focus" on them before they open their mouths. Then again, maybe they are just those pushy peddler types, who open their mouths as soon as they see someone, anyone.

I mean in the context of the thread, security guards scanning you often is them doing their job right.

If you're going in stealth, you avoid them. That's the idea behind stealth.

If you're going in loud then, well.....why is it an issue?

And if you got clearance to be there, let them scan you.
I dont think it is so much the scan as the response and easy it is to miss being scanned

im fine with npc scanning, you just have to keep situational awareness.

Know were the guards are and keep your distance. If you do need to go near one, just walk by them, dont run, and be prepared to stop when asked.

Do that and you should have no issues.

I suspect one of the issues is many people have got used to playing games were you run around like an idiot constantly without a care in the world. Elite isnt that type of game.

My problem is that it happens constantly even in places occupied by factions friendly to you. It is frankly tiresome and of poor design.

This wasn't a problem for me up until a recent covert mission. I let a guy scan me then went and got a false identity, then came back the same way: he was standing in the exact same location and wanted to scan me again! I think getting a false identity might reset the ai in this regard which is really annoying.

From what I have witnessed, they can scan you once per loop of their path. This can be super annoying, especially with the guy who is guarding the foyer of the long skinny settlement layout since he doesn't walk very far each time.

Sometimes if it seems like they scan you twice in semi quick succession. I'm assuming they probably scanned you right before the end of their path, then once they started another loop and you happened to still be close to them, they will scan you again.

My NPC may have been bugged because he had no path. he just stood at the top of the only staircase between the alarm system and the lvl 3 npc I needed to scan for access, scanning me everytime I passed by. In the end I had to kill him as there was no other away around.

What?! You don't stand on a street corner yelling at every rando that you might have a job for them and it might be illegal? ;)

You performed an illegal act when you stole that access level, when you use the second mode of the scanner it gives you a hint.

I also don't like the whole "DON'T GET TOO CLOSE", "GET AWAY FROM ME" stuff, that's just plain rude. I don't get people saying that every time I walk in Tesco's.. What did I do to upset them other than walking past them.

Kill them all.
The only good NPC's are the dead ones.
No more annoyances.
Also good for your fps I guess.

Stealth gameplay isn't something new, but it's effectively useless if you can't take out an enemy silently without raising alarm*. Especially in a situation like stated above where the one npc just stood in one spot scanning everything that moved.

* idk if this is something you can do in Odyssey or not, but if it isn't that's pretty darn foolish.

Oh, it's possible alright - use the overload function of your energy recharge tool thing... Alarm'll get raised if you're seen doing it, or if you're nearby when/if someone finds the body (so try to kill them out of sight of anyones walking loop), but you can get in, get your kill and get out again without raising the alarm. And yes, it's possible to do it multiple times on the same base run. Gets more risky, since you'll still get a bounty for the first kill ,even if noone sees you do it (which I think is terrible design), and the more bodies you leave lying around, the higher the chance of someone spotting one, but you can do it ;)

After too many scans, I start to get annoyed, Draw my Plasma Pistol & shoot the next scanner in the face................then it's 'exit stage left'!:ROFLMAO:

Yes I am aware, and I deleted the identity each time he tried to scan me. My point is that the ai was resetting each time I stole an identity: that is to say, stealing an identity resets the ai so that it scans you over and over again each time.

I wish guards would have a longer short term memory. Right now my fish in the aquarium can hold a thought longer than them.
Why do I have to be scanned 3-4 times by the same guard all within several minutes?

Unfortunately, Odyssey is riddled with stupid bugs and issues like this and I'm afraid some things will stay with us forever...

Yes this is a big problem, they should remember you for about 5 minutes minimum.

And so this would render most missions as this:

  • Run up to guard at the start, get scanned
  • Go do the mission without any thought or care about the guards
  • End
It's important you all stop seeing the guard scans like you probably see speed cameras when you're driving. They're not there to annoy you, they're there to keep you on your toes and make the infiltration game challenging. If you could just "turn them off" with the simple act of triggering one at the start, you might as well delete the whole feature and just let us walk in to do anything without any game play.

Please stop trying to suggest the game should change just because you don't wish to play by its rules.
