NPC Wings In Solo Play- How will You Adapt?

1D4, then the next 1D4, then the next 1D4...

We would not want people getting bored would we?

No, that would never do.

Hang the nice quiet drift through the systems, doing full scans and admiring the view, have lots of pew-pew instead. Or in my case, see how quickly you can run away from four ships.

Rinse repeat until >500ly away, then the same on the way back. Sounds like a great laugh, right?

Forum seems to think so. :(

I'm hoping (probably against better judgment) that for once Frontier actually tests a new feature properly before releasing it to the masses.

With the NPC pilots already being crazy psychos with a Terminator mentality, it could easily lead into a thoroughly unenjoyable SP experience, if you're constantly being harassed by hole wings of said NPCs.

So let me get this straight FD have put in multi ship interdictions in solo play and people are complaining ??????? what gives seriously!!!! I hate interdictions when i am exploring or trading (usually run away for the fact i am not carrying weapons) but if i am in my cobra bring the interdictions on. But as they were, they were almost no challenge my cobra vs a sidewinder seriously no challenge. So interdictions were kinda boring I envied the old days why pirates would come along in 3's or 4's to attack you. Swarms or sidewinders, kraits, adders and the like piling on your cobra. And the satisfaction of taking them all out with 1 bar of shield energy left.

So in solo play we have to adapt weapons now on cargo or exploring vessels. And if in a properly kitted out cobra or viper or even the new vulture if you cant deal with 4 npc's on your own . Come off it not as if it is 4 thargoid motherships with thargons

From Sandro in another thread:

Hello Commanders!

A quick clarification:

The likelihood of being harassed by wings of NPCs is modified by the perceived power of a player - the greater the disparity, the less interested the NPC wing will be. Of course, you can still start on them and suffer the consequences. NPC wings are designed to offer extra challenge to player wings, not to gank solo players.

In addition, the security rating for systems impacts the likelihood of having criminal wings present; low security systems have more bad guys, so Commanders should be able to make reasonable risk assessments when plotting routes.

Hope this helps.

I'm just hoping that a few years down the road they'll have no option but to salvage ED's assets to finally deliver a proper E4 without MP.
This! I backed this game because I wanted a new Elite game which I could play just as I did the previous games but what we have is a game where the fun is slowly being crushed out of it all so they can pretend to be a 'MMO' and appeal to the cool kids.

That's a myth until i see proof or read conformation about that.
Things like that have been stated again and again, but for now it's nothing more than a forum theory that went viral.

I have written evidence regarding Solo / Group NPC interdiction in places that should not have such a large population of NPCs in the first place. There's a Interdiction Mega-Thread somewhere that I listed the incidents in detail.

Basically, in a set of 16 zero population, unscoopable star systems, about 200ly from Sol, I had an encounter in 13 of them. Everything from an Eagle to an Anaconda. All of the ships that managed to interdict me had the same 'give me your cargo / now you die, dog' comms. I was driving an Adder, with no cargo, no fines, no bounties.

There is no logical reason for any of those ships to be there. None of those I could scan had fuel scoops or exploration equipment, but there were tooled up, ready for bear, in the middle of nowhere. If they were NPC Pirates, they'd have very slim pickings indeed!

So, yes, there are instances of high numbers of NPCs showing up in Solo / Group and it isn't a myth or theory.

I might just never come back... It's lonely out here but it's ever so pretty and peaceful.

I will likely quit...My interdiction have increased exponentially. Yea I know the interdiction tricks, but the ID game doesn't add to the gameplay after the 25th ID.

Don't you guys in Solo get it, don't you remember being jumped by gangs of pirates? What is the difference? You've had it too easy, either suck it up and play the game the way it always was or join Open and form player escorts until they allow you to hire npc escorts. Seriously I don't get it, ED was very first announced as a MP experience, it gives life and unpredictability to the universe.

It is also rife with cheats due to the way the netcode works, your point being?

To get back on to the original thread (before it turns into another Solo vs Open discussion), I will

  • point ship away from baddies
  • full pips to engine
  • FA off
  • push left to go all spirally
  • boost
  • boost
  • boost

All with Voice Attack, of course, and calmly plot course to get back into SC (if they are NPCs) or nearest star system (if they are players) while waiting for FSD cooldown.

At least, that is what I have in my mind.

In reality, it will involve a lot of swearing, heart pumping and screwing up the controls.

While commanders are not going to get the option hiring NPC Wings (yet?!), I wonder if there is any chance of a mechanic with NPC Wings looking to hire additional wingmates (for credits?)

That could open up interesting mercenary scenarios with NPC-led combat missions, or NPC trader escort to 100LY+ destinations (perhaps with pay split between initial sign-on, and safe arrival at destination, or even a trade profit-share).

I dont know what you mean by 'Adapt' , I will just play it like I do any other game that has combat with more than one enemy.

<sighs> This type of response becomes tiresome!

Right back at you

It is also rife with cheats due to the way the netcode works, your point being?

I haven't seen any cheats in all the hours I've played, not to say they don't exist but if you were trading for real and your shipments kept getting hijacked, would you carry on or explore other routes, from what I hear the problems lie at the Lave system, there's millions of other systems. The beauty of this game is they are attempting to make it as real as possible, that means if you are hauling tons of cargo unprotected (alone without escorts) you are very likely to fall prey to pirates, if there are guys cheating they should be banned from the server, report them so FD can act accordingly.
