NPC Wings In Solo Play- How will You Adapt?

On the dev update thread, is has been reported that NPC wings, of up to four ships, will be able to interdict a single player in solo mode. Additionally, players will not be able to hire NPC's of their own as escorts.

I'm primarily an explorer, so mounting heavy combat gear is a problem. Traders, and miners will have their own concerns.

Any ideas? Remember this is about solo mode, not the player groups that you can join.

I am specialzed in running away and have become really good at it, it should work no matter how many NPCs want to shoot me. I hope ^^

I really wish you could hire NPCs of your own. That should also make FD happy since it would create another money sink. On topic for what you are saying, I hope it will be one ship that interdicts and then others start jumping in a little later. That would be fine, still allow for an escape or if you choose to fight then you are gambling that you will not get overwhelmed while waiting for the others to start jumping in. Don't know till it actually starts happening. It was my understanding from reading the thread about players in wings that one will interdict and the others can choose to jump into the interdiction as well but they have to be in the same area and not scattered around the system.

Personally i would welcome this, if only there was a save game function or equivalent (full and free insurance or whatever), and an ability to form wings with NPC's.

As is, it's another nail in the coffin. Online mode's been killed by cheaters, offline mode by FD, and solo mode by all the punative sobs to the failed online mode.

I'm just hoping that a few years down the road they'll have no option but to salvage ED's assets to finally deliver a proper E4 without MP.

Remember four ships can form a pyramid shaped box. Mass locking, or crossing a opponents field of fire is almost guaranteed.
Only the same mass or higher can mass lock. It is on a per ship basis, not total. Thus, 1000 sidewinders could show up and a Type 9 could still fly away.

Or, be able to purchase an Elite server of your own, like Minecraft. Hopefully, there will be sufficient granularity of control.

That may be true, but they can all still fire on you. It seems that you would have to boost past one of them, while the others formed up. Going through the three-point plane exposes you to everyone's fire, while one dedicates itself to your tail.

No difference. I'm already getting attacked by those psycho escorts the NPC traders bring with them into the nav beacons. Those clowns usually attack me out of the blue when I'm fighting a wanted criminal so I'm already doing 3 vs 1.

Unless these NPC wings start throwing 3 or 4 Clippers/Pythons/Anacondii at us it will be no major change.

NPC wingmen are a part of the DDA. So it may happen. It'd make a lot of sense. Wouldn't have solo players feeling left out when coop content is released.

Hiring NPC's would enrich the game.

That may well happen. And, the NPC's are getting better.
