At what point do you 'bottle it' and head for home ?
I've just started getting into exploration properly though I did a few small trips in gamma and right at the start of release.
This guide has been a great help.
I did a trip where I started by heading straight up a 1000ly from shinrata and then made my way across the top of the galactic plane to the Traikaae Nebula (which was hard work, few stars). By the time I got to the nebula I had some damage, from lack of concentration, I think powerplant was 87 % and hull about 90% so I went home.
The next trip I tried to be more careful. I headed out to NGC 7822. I had two emergency stops caused by black holes but in both cases I was doing minimum speed and there was hardly any damage. But then after I moved on I had one lapse of concentration, minor heat damage but the canopy cracked so I headed straight home.
On my current trip I thought I would head towards the core via nebulas. I'm about 9000 LY's out atm. Neutron stars have been my downfall this time. I've emergency stopped 4 times. Three because of Neutron stars. (I need to remember to get well away before turning towards the next system on my route). My Hull is still 95%. Powerplant is 92% but I'm worried about the canopy cracking again so I've turned for home again.
I may be being over cautious but I can't bear the idea of loosing all the data!
So I'm interested in knowing how far other CMDR's push it damage wise before you think 'enough's enough' and head for home ?
