Obtain Thargoid tissue sample without damage or combat

G'day,

Not sure if this had been reported before however I have obtained Thargoid tissue samples without incurring and damage or partaking in any combat.

How did I do it?

TLDR Version: https://youtu.be/Ru0U2tM9lJA

Step by step version:

 • I equipped a Cobra Mk III with and Xeno Scanner and Repair Limpets.
 • I also had Collector Limpets but did not use them
 • The ship was decked out using coriolis.io "Combat" setting
 • Find a 'goid in a NHSS and let it scan you
 • Immediately scan it with your xeno scanner (not required but it gets you data)
 • Always keep your weapons stowed except when you are using them! It seem to make them attack if you dont.
 • It then turned to scan the other ships in the area
 • When it was about 800m away and facing away from me I deployed the Research Limpet
 • I then backed away to over 3.4km away
 • DO NOT GO OVER 4KM (ish) AS THE LIMPET WILL SELF DESTRUCT
 • The 'goid should will go into attack mode (red) but will not find you (hopefully)
 • Maintain this distance if it moves
 • If you are lucky the 'goid will leave and you can collect the limpet, if not you will have to do one quick run to get it. This is why I had the collector limpets.
 • Scan the wake to add insult to your lack of injury.
I have only done this twice. Other times the Thargoid has attacked but my distances were not maintained when the it moved toward me (<3.4km). Perhaps more aggressive type will always attack. Theres more work to be done but at least this gives us hope that even smaller ships can source mats and data for missions/engineers without a huge risk of death.

Mean like this?

Also the distance is about 5k not 4

I have done this when interdicted by two of the copying Thargoids. I released limpet after scanning them both and kept my distance. It did not fire on me!

This is great! Thanks for sharing
I will try it on a ASPX or DBX as soon as i get back from The Black.

Does anyone know of heat signature makes any difference in Thargoids "detection" of our ship in this case?

The Thargoids are avid forum readers and I'm sure they will be adapting in a manner of days. Carry on, commanders.

Community Goal:

Sapien invisibility is a major hinderence to our progression towards the rim. We need a means of improving our AS (anti-sapien) sensors to detect these cold running ships. Provide 10,000 units of consumer electronics.

I have been using the same method with an AspE for mine, most attempts are successful with each trip yielding 4t of samples.

catch is it isn't a cool ship, so silent running has to be used which is suicide if I get caught.

Thargoids cannot see ships below approximately 20%

My technique is to equip heat sinks on ship.
Detect NHSS
Disable shields. (This reduces heat signature)
Enter NHSS.
Target thargoid.
Disable Thrusters (This further reduces heat signature)
Thargoid approaches the jump in point. It will fly very close sometimes within 100 metres as cant really see you.
Deploy limpets.
Deploy heatsink
Sit and wait for a minute while the limpets do their bit.
Open cargo hatch.
Retrieve limpets.
Activate Thrusters.
Fly away.
Activate shields

IF you fly a ship specially engineered to run cool such as a diamondback you probably can get away with just switching off shields.

I have been using both dolphin and cobra mk4 to retrieve samples. The dolphin is a hot running ship, but with thrusters and shield off temp doesnt climb above 15%
so thargoids cannot see me

There is no need to use Silent running just disable modules that consume power. I knock shields and thrusters off, however no reason why you cant disable most things including life support and power distributor along with any weapons.

Just need cargo hatch and limpet controller active.
