The reason why most big ships don't have centered pilot seats is because they have multi-seat cockpits and FD doesn't want to have to alter the cockpits for multi-crew.

That's no reason. The Asp shows that multi-crew cockpits can be designed so at least the main pilot seat is centered. But as long as it's not too obvious like in the FDL it doesn't matter that much to me.

ANSWER. THE. QUESTION. MORE. CLEARERER. please?
Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder. Widely overused as a term usually meaning mildly annoyed and unable to deal with things that aren't perfectly ordered or symmetrical ;)

The corvette is symmetrical to a point... But if you look back the seat on the right is a bit further forward than the seat on the left.
You're a monster.

Edit: And yes, I hate hate hate that bar on the FDL. So ridiculous on a high end ship with supposedly current technology.

There's sitting off center..

..but did anyone bother to notice that, even while sitting off center, you still center your view on the landing pad when you land?

I don't mind it on the FDL or Python, adds a nice touch to the game without being intrusive.

This used to bother me but I guess I got used to it and now I barely even notice it.
I wonder if the author of the OP has since got used to sitting to one side of the ship.

I wish, I keep getting in my python to do a smuggling or haulage mission now and then and every time I can only handle it for a few minutes. I don't even keep an FdL because of it (and that's saying a lot considering the amount of ships I own), which is sad, because with the adjustments, it's an amazing ship....I just can't do it, I end up parking as soon as I can and getting in something symmetrical....thank goodness for the federation!

I'm basically locked out of my cobras, except on the rare occasion I really want to go fast, but more often than not I just go with the viper, not as fast as the Cobra III, but far more pilotable for me.

Not just the Asp; the FDS, FGS, Anaconda and Corvette all have multiseat bridge/cockpits, but the pilot sits in the middle. I was in a python after my Asp and I ended up parking it and buying an Anaconda, I hadn't seen the bridge before so I didn't know if it was symmetrical or not, I was really worried and then a huge wave of relief swept over me as I saw it was symmetrical.

The poll results are interesting, so many people against it, or at least in favor of asymmetrical cockpits, I think you all don't understand what it feels like. Oh well.

This is my bad too because I didnt put 2 and 2 together considering the people who are "meh i'm fine with either or", faced with a yes or a no and to change something, most will psychologically just put no without much thought so the poll is a bit obsolete because of that. Should have thought of it when I made the thread but such is life!

Like others said, you do get used to it, And I too do drive a car (but i'm not really used to that either after so many years, but I have to drive becasue work!)

Future ships at least it'd be nice if Lakon did make some form of mid seated mid ship, IE around FDL - Python kind of ship where you have a cockpit of 3 seats, 1 middle, and one on each side perhaps, twas my kind of thinking at least

I like the side by side seating. It's more realistic, more akin to actual vehicles and it's been done pretty well with the camera view being obviously off-centred.

My only real dislike is the huge, cavernous sizes of the cabins. The scanner unit in particular is a massive coffee-table sized object a good few feet in front of the pilot's knees.
I personally would have preferred everything to be more cramped, efficient with space and switchgear actually within arms reach. (How is anyone supposed to operate those switches in the Adder without getting out of their seat?)

Well the Anaconda is no longer the top end ship, so it's perfect for anyone suffering from OCD because of the central pilot's seat.
