General / Off-Topic Oceans 11 now with all females in the lead roles.

They could pick up strong female characters already present rather than gender-swap. I'm patiently waiting for a She-Hulk movie. I find her to be one of Marvels most awesome if underused female superheroes.

:D S

This is getting ridiculous, I've got nothing against women, infact I love them, however why can't we see some NEW movies instead of old reboots of good movies just with women in the main roles?

It's stupid, its doesn't work (Ghostbusters I'm looking at you) and it's just plain lazy work.

Can't the writers make a good movie form the ground up without rebooting an old movie?
I remember some very good TV shows and movies with female lead roles.

like Widows, Bad Girls, Agatha Christie and many more.

This is just silly, what do you think?

I don't like reboots, I don't like Sandra Bullock, nor Rhianna... so far it isn't shaping up well, is it? :D

I think it's a bit gimmicky, to be honest. There will be those who love to jump on anything to hit others with the equality-bat and there will always be insecure males who take it in the worst possible way... all of which will generate hype about the film either way and make a small group of men very rich.

It hardly does us much credibility if women's roles are being based on characters that were originally written as and for men.
There are plenty of original ways in which to frame women as lead and give them strong characters - GoT stands out for me!

It's very sad writers seldom think. The only remake that comes to mind that was actually very good. "In my lame opinion" was Cape Fear.

What about Invasion of the Body Snatchers? The remake was way way way better.

And The Fly! Oh my god the remake of that was amazing. It blew me away completely.

Then there was King Kong. Maybe it was just updated tech, but the new King Kong was better than the original I think.

And The Thing. The original was kind of fun but the remake was better.

Having said all that, if the planned remake of Forbidden Planet goes forward Hollywood shall burn.

I 100% agree with you. YES we need more women in the movies, portrayed as intelligent and even kick butt women, however until now, it's just plain silly in many cases. Take Ghostbusters? why could they not write a good screenplay where it was the daughters of the original Ghostbusters? I could live with that, rebooting it was an awful idea, and the movie was terrible as a movie.

I mean Alien with Ripley, one of my most favorite movies, if that was rebooted with a man, I would rage a lot for sure, that would be soooo wrong.

The Fly was a really good reboot I agree, much better that the original.

When I first watched Aliens, I was in awe at Ellen Ripley gaffer-taping a pulse rifle to a flame-thrower.
I thought "Yes! That's the kind of woman I want to grow up to be!"

Girls need good role-models! :D

As always, people making a point for the sake of it under the guise of promoting equality.

True equality funnily enough means NOT going out of one's way to favour any side, and that includes the side that is perceived to be the more discriminated against.

If men start playing every female roll ever then perhaps we have an issue. But as it stands characters should be cast on what makes the most sense for the flow of the film, not cast based on making a moral point.

I have nothing against an all-female cast but the film will be undeniably forgotten about a month after release, because it's being produced to make this point and not because it is an epic idea. As stated by OP, what we really need is something original - but the risk/reward situation is far too comfortable for screen writers. They know they can put out this uninspiring, safe nonsense ad nauseum and it will pull the money in every time.

I guess this is next

It's not hard to understand. If you want female/black/LGBTQI characters then make them. Don't just go and grab an existing character and overwrite it. That's just lame.

Though I'm not sure this is a case of equality madness. I think it's just Hollywood being creatively bankrupt. They've run out of remake candidates so now they have to do variations.

I honestly couldn't care less about the whole gender swap in remakes. It's the remakes themselves, of genuine classics, that irritates me most.
