October Community Update Discussion Thread

Maybe Star Citizen will get released before Elite Dangerous gets a paid update.
Based on CIG's roadmaps' progress, we won't be getting Squadron 42 before 2021, let alone Star Citizen.

FDev say the New Era paid update (with the majority of Elite devteam working on it) is on track for the end of 2020, with details on its contents to come during next Summer.

I now officially hate open letters :(

Honestly I thought the patch was very bumpy but not that big of a deal. Maybe because I don't play every day, so I could let it cool off a bit, I managed to not get burned by the mining bug.

This seems like overreaction, and I blame the open-letter-ers for this fine mess. I guess I'll just be looking forward to FC even harder now. Hope it doesn't make me all squinty looking into the distance for so long.
If you’re mad at the open letter-ers instead of FDev, then Will deserves a raise and you’re being played like a fiddle.

It's obvious that only skeleton crew was left in charge of keeping Elite afloat, while rest of the team was moved to work on New Era paid content.
It's also obvious that those left behind are not up to the task. Maybe there are too few of them, maybe they are not experienced enough. Maybe both.
Management probably gave them too ambitious goals, at the same time reducing their numbers to one digit.

A lot of people seem excited about promise to fix bugs, but recently I haven't seen a lot of potential in that area too.
I mean.. It looks like there's actually one guy left in the programming section and he seems a little bit lost, when he's not on vacation or health leave.

Guess I’ll throw this out here again: the 40+ second FSS delay for scanning bodies with surface sites is hopefully recognized as an egregious game ruining bug and will be fixed.

This.
The long scanning times for geological pois has put me off of exploring altogether, this while I like the new fss in general.
I wish this will be handled in the first bug fix update too.

I'm disappointed but i don't have a problem with a delay if it means getting the quality right, ED deserves the best. i would like to make the point however that -----> 'You've asked for more focus on existing bug/fixes and issues, and for the community to be better integrated into the development process and testing for these upcoming updates.'

No i did not. After the first week or two of bug-fixing after the September update, the game worked perfectly fine for me, i didn't ask for balancing either.

This, the multiplay/PvP/Youtube section of the community is now speaking for all of us whether we like it or not, and they've already managed to get Fdev to be too frightened to take a chance on carriers before Christmas, so we get super-exciting player bug-testing instead. Great going! 👏

Hey everybody vote for this: FSS Long Delay When Scanning Planets issue tracker

If it gets voted to the top then surely they’ll work on . . . oh, wait . . . let’s see . . . added April 2019, already top voted issue.
🙁

Seriously though if they fix this (and I mean really fix it not kludge some workaround that breaks a million other things) then they can straight up CANCEL Fleet Carriers and I’ll still be delighted.

Disclaimer: This is no Rant, blackmailing, whiteknighting or whatever. It's just a summary of concerns by some who are dedicated Elite-Commanders.

I'm some kind of areporter in our squadron and as soon I got the announcement in my hands, translated and posted it, the discussion got going.

I want to post the main concerns that was growing in our squadron. Some of my mates are actually working as coders / developers and they fear they discovered some kind of general management-pattern that shows, that FDev is "FAR OFF THEIR SCHEDULE" releasing new content, because they experience the same or similar patterns in their own companies.

Why is it so?

1. They released "New Player Experiences" instead of releasing the announced content, because they are behind schedule (Iceplanet Revamp / FC and even New Era), so they implement, wether intentionally (I SERIOUSLY hope NOT though) or not, some Game-Issues. (The Trigger)

Following up are parts out of the standard management-toolbox

2. Mining salt from the community (The "Open Letter"-Initiative)

3. Using the forementioned community-initiative to disguise their own failure and justifiing the release-delay with: "You asked for bugfixing? Okay...We take you serious and we are concentrating on bugfixing alone, but we have to delay new content."

4. The community is releaved and satisfied that the management took them serious, the managment is satisfied not to fully enrage their costumers.

All in all, as far as we (our squadron) know, FDev is working on Elite Dangerous with, at least, 3 teams. 1 for the "Next Big Thing", 1 for "Fleet Carriers", 1 for "Minor Content-Releases". So why don't they concentrate the third team for bugfixing alone? And why are Fleetcarriers delayed whole SIX MONTHS, despite the fact that a whole Team ALONE is working on them at least a year?

I really LOVE reallife-satire. Foremostly because of the usual Hype-Train-Threads that was rolling all over the forums. Well Played FDev!!! golfclap:ROFLMAO:

I STILL have faith in Elite: Dangerous, because it's really a good product I very much enjoy. I don't want that this jewel will be "sunk into the bin".

Seriously, i think the thing that annoys me most about this is how FCs were already delayed once, and i was quite accepting of that. But this is the second time the release of them has been significantly pushed back.

It makes me worry there are some serious technical issues involved that FD can't address regarding them.

Maybe the bug fixes (and refactoring) are required, as without them, FCs simply won't work well.

You know what, i think i'm just going to go out exploring for a few months.

edit: here guys please vote for this!
Fix the FSS!
the fact we have to vote for which bugs to fix.... disgusting

how frontier could ever think this was acceptable, should be ashamed tbh

Thank you to everyone Frontier for your continued support on my favorite game.

Personally I think it's a good decision and whilst the Fleet Carrier delay is disappointing to some now, I think it will benefit us all in the long term. To support their decision which I know wasn't easy, I have just purchased some Arx and used those Arx on some new paint jobs.

I'm not too worried by the delay to FC as we know so little about them.

I was a little concerned that, due to FDs preference for saying less, some folks on the forums had filled the void with their own speculation on what FCs will do. And I'm sure that in some minds the speculation was morphing in to fact.

That feels like a recipe for a launch riddled with rants, tirades etc...

Hopefully FD explain the feature prior to launch, but even so a beta may help (a little) as Cmdrs get a chance to find out in advance.
