Oculus Quest 2 for Elite Dangerous

I have a HOTAS but i strongly prefer the touch controller. With flight assist i can play "almost" as well. The major selling point is its just so much more relaxing. I can relax in a chair, have keyboard controls from the touch controllers, brose the internet etc. It's great.

That does sound very appealing! Am I right in thinking by 'relaxing' that you are more of a trader / explorer type of CMDR?
How do you find it? I tried to get map xbox controller and even using all of the buttons as different shifts, I really struggled. Touch has even less buttons?
Would you mind descibing how you use it.

I would be interested to know also. I can see that the joy sticks on my Logitech controller would be replaced by the 'tilt hands' of the touch controllers. which would free up the joy sticks on the touch. I do see the touches on my drop down. I have a CV1 + 2x touch.

I do a little bit of everything. Combat is a little more difficult but it takes some practice to get it down. I dont know if i am describing this well but with oculus touch you have 32 controls or so when you factor in each A & B held in shows you 6 options. So all you do is hold A, press down for hyperdrive for example. Hold A and right trigger and you changer fire groups, etc. Some gentleman shows me the cockpit VR in a thread below that i am trying out now, this has made it work in Virtual Desktop! I am still having trouble binding a couple buttons to finish the installation but i am so close..

Hello, I bought new Elite Dangerous for Oculus Quest 2 with link to PC. Everytime that I tried to launch Elite Dangerous via PC or in VR headset, it always opens up Frontier account asking me to log in and link it to Oculus and it approved the link then I can't get past "must register" phase in headset or via PC. Everytime I finished logging in and closed the browser, it just ended Elite Dangerous application and I re-launch it to go through the same cycle all over again. I just cannot go into Elite Dangerous application past "must register" phase.. Please help..

Assuming you have the oculus portal. Try starting the game from your library elite dangerous tab... then it will have options to run in vr or pancake.
Failing that do you have steam Vr installed? If not install that and once again go into steam library and try it there.

So you are launching the game via the launcher? And it is asking you to register.

I had issues yesterday resetting password on elite and it did kinda go in a cycle. I got around it by clearing website cache and going straight to the frontier website to do what I needed to do. Maybe you could go straight there to register. I guess you will need to click the link in an email to confirm etc.

I wouldn't go though steam vr unless you really have to because it doesn't perform as well as oculus.
If it keeps doing your head in, frontier support is pretty good.

No. I'm using Oculus library for Elite Dangerous. Not using Steam VR platform at all. Yes, I launched directly from Oculus library either in VR or in desktop mode only to hit registration website on PC that was launched and the headset only shows "remove your headset to go to website" blah. When I registered and linked account of oculus and elite frontier account then said successful then I closed that website down then elite dangerous "playing" circle stopped asking for me to launch elite dangerous again. Same thing repeats all over again.. Link accounts, so go on.. Non-stop..

I also clicked on Elite Dangerous Support after linking account and it gave me the error. I also went through frontier website for customer support link and gave me same error link..

Yeah. I also have copy of ED on Steam VR library and I just cannot launch it either. When I launch it, It kept popping instance error every 5 second and I had to remove VR headset to stop error pop-up to stop popping up non-stop after 6th-10th pop-ups.. Annoying so I decided to try Oculus platform so bought ED there only to face registration endless cycle. Annoying. I don't know why it is so difficult to launch ED while it is so easy to launch any other games so far for Oculus library and Steam Library?

Here's the screenshot of the registration website. When I close it, it ended running elite dangerous application in Oculus headset or on PC oculus platform then I have to re-launch that only to face registration all over again..

I finally launched ED desktop launcher from Oculus directory in C drive and it did give me error warning but launcher was up so was able to log in and it only launched in 2D version. Then I logged off but kept launcher app up while launching ED app from oculus library only to send me to registration website all over again. I looked in my account for elite dangerous and it doesn't show anything related to Oculus version of ED at all. Last ordered was for PC and Xbox. Nothing for Oculus..

I even created new frontier account using different email that works with oculus then closed website down and relaunch ED from oculus home only to face registration again asking if I am new customer or existing one? I clicked on new customer again with same new email and it said that it's in system but cannot link and need to contact customer support but I cannot even reach customer support due to invalid customer address link every time.. Very frustrating.. I already requested refund for oculus ED because it is not even working for me at all. Steam ED via Steam VR is not working either for VR but it works in 2D version easily..

Don't punch me!
...but you have defo set it to HMD speaker/headphone in ED's graphics options and clicked 3rd party apps in Oculus Home? I am guessing you must have done the latter because steamVR?

So is this working okay for everyone in Steam now? I have Vive which pretty straight forward for Elite, but it's in the lounge and I have not found a comfortable way to use my hotas whilst sat on the sofa.
I was think of getting the Quest 2 to be able play Elite at my desk without either moving a lightbox etc

All good now or still problematic?

I use it on Steam VR without any issue and I'm a VR noob. On screen I'm at 4k ultra and the resolution and quality are not so good on the headset, GTX 2060. So I'm not converted to VR playing yet. I suspect I'd want the more comfortable straps and fittings too since the oculus ones are not comfortable after the first 20 minutes.

all this does is open a curved version in a pancake window, have tried launching from oculus and steam vr, multiple reinstalls and cant get this to actually load in a headset, this is literally the only game that i have trouble running in vr

Cool,

Well I occasionally play on my 55" 4k telly which is awesome... but I miss VR dogfights :p

I see what you mean about the head straps. I was in quite a bit of pain just setting it up. It's either slightly too loose or so tight it feels like its trying to force its way through my forehead!
Rather impressed by the image quality compared to the vive though. Couldn't sleep last night so I stuck on a 3D film, very watchable. Think I'll be taking this when I go away for long motorway journey (as a passenger of course ).

Time to set it up with Elite!
