Oculus Rift and colours in Elite Dangerous thread

This sounds like a HDMI color range, the standard is 'limited' at 0-235, but full 0-255 gives more colors and darker ranges. Some love it (black crush) some don't.
On some TV's which support deep blacks this setting can be better, but I assume the rift is made with 0-235 in mind.

I think a quick fix might be hooking up your Rift using DVI instead of HDMI.

Hhmm, messed around with limited and full range and I get purple smudges/shadows on asteroids while moving my head, is that the effect what you mean?

Oculus color settings

hello fellow rifters. I was wondering if anyone has played with the color setting through nvidia CP for their DK2. I find that adjusting contrast to 75-80% and boosting digital vibrance to 70% makes the oculus image much more "realistic". give it a wirl and see if you like it.

I would normally always set my contrast to 65% and digital vibrance to 75 and that's what I've been playing on the rift up until today, it's kind of a automatic setting I do every time I install a new driver etc.

I do like to look at rich colours but in certain games this setting can make textures a little less natural.

However today my GTX970 turned up and I was that eager to whack it in and check out it's performance to my old 770 I forgot to adjust the colour settings. So jumped into the seat of my cobra and began cranking the graphic settings up a notch at a time until I reached the point where I would get a slight stutter in the hanger. I remember thinking wow those blacks look really black and thinking to myself must be the new card 😱 then the penny dropped I hadn't adjusted the colour settings.

So I'm going leave it as it is for now as I really liked the tone of black I'm getting at the moment until I start to miss my vibrant colours.
I should really try and find a compromise !!

yeah, the black lvls in space really add to the immersion if they're done right. I noticed that ater i added my other 670pe, not only was there a huge performance boost but the image quallity went up as well without adjusting any setting at all.

Going to try it thanks for the suggestion.

Thank you Beavis: I made the changes you suggested and I do see difference. Now if could only find a way to reduce that glitter effect that would be the icing on the cake. There's nothing like playing this game in DK2.

I find this works well for me on DK2:
<MatrixRed> 0.15, 0.45, 0 </MatrixRed>
<MatrixGreen> 0.3, 0.2, 0.1 </MatrixGreen>
<MatrixBlue> 0.05, 0.05, 0.6 </MatrixBlue>

These are my green settings with the enemy showing up on red:

<MatrixRed> 0.18, 0, -1 </MatrixRed>
<MatrixGreen> -1, 1, -1 </MatrixGreen>
<MatrixBlue> 0.15, 0.32, 1 </MatrixBlue>

Once you turn the font Green, what color are the bad guys? Blue or other? I have seen those guys that fly like a bat out of hell around ports/stations and I dont believe they ever lock me up, but when I am locked up in a interdiction I do not even see the guy on my radar.. anyone else have this happen?

Thanks
Cheers
RJ

I have this exact same issue and I find it odd that after finding something that you think works, it's only later that you find out it didn't work when the black pixels come back. Then when you try to do what worked before, that doesn't work anymore! So far, the research I've found is try changing the rift from primary display to secondary, then switch it back. I tried that, it worked the first time, never again since, try restarting your runtime, I did that, worked the first time, then never again after that, and I also found to try turning your rift off then on again. Once again, that worked....the first time. So I'm at a loss. I just wish they would support the Rift more during this development process instead of being HTC Vive fanboys. *Sigh*
