Odyssey Engineer unlocks and the BGS

I find multiple ships after you power down a base (going to an offline base, powering up to take data and powering off to get my power regulator back) quite common. Normally I can leave before they get to me, if I don't stop to watch them land :)
Yeah, that's what I was doing actually. Maybe I never hung around long enough to see them before :)

Noticed in the above post that some negative states are missing from the charts. This is expected as I haven't been looking for them - but I went to a Drought system (Kojinbaia has the owner only in a Drought) and all the bases seem online (well, I checked 4-5). Maybe not all negative states take bases offline ...

I have run into "reliable" states that failed to shut down some or all settlements, and I've also seen - as recently as yesterday - settlements remain shut down after a negative state has ended. I'm not sure there's a cut-and-dried answer.

Pirate Attack is usuallly a good one. I've yet to find Blight, Drought or Famine without some other negative state, so I'm not sure about those. From your chart it looks like you found dark settlements under Terrorist Attack, though?

They seem to have a 1 day cooldown after the state finishes (presumably to let ppl finish missions). After that I see them come online next tick. Not all go offline in any state - not sure if some are better than others 🤷‍♀️

Hmm, went to Peregrina and 2 similar settlements from the Aristocrats - one was on fire, one was not. One had a Restore mission, and one a Reactivation. The Aristocrats are in both Bust and Civil Unrest, so I guess it's possible one Settlement is Bust and one is in Civil Unrest. Desmond Excavation Complex and Zubairu Extraction Station for the record.

I've been doing murder runs to grind the engineers out and my experience so far suggests to me that this table is accurate. Unfortunately the pop rates are so low it's very hard to be certain. I feel like an EDMC plugin feeding into an independent database might be the best way to aggregate collection data and therefore determine drop rates more accurately.

Thanks! The only issue is that the logs don't record the port types / ids - and I wanted that (which turned out useful as it pointed out the way some things like Financial Projections / MI are more common from things other than HABs). I record them by putting them into local comms (which does go in the logs), but I don't know how much I'd trust the general population to remember (I can forgive myself more easily :) ). Especially with rare things like SDP it's easy to move the data around.

Still not completely convinced (other than SCP) that it's not correlation rather than causation. Nearly done with getting all the samples I want, then I plan to look for other relations.

It's quite possible that boom, investment, civil liberty states could result in better pop rates- down powered settlements seem to have many fewer items and assets, not completely sure if they also have fewer data to collect but it feels likely. If so boom states could have the opposite effect.

The research would be aided by more settlements being added to the EDDN- that would make it easier to find the right combinations of state, government and economy type, particularly for the rarer governments.

Completely random - and probably already tested - thinking but wouldn't Opinion polls pop more in systems with election state?

People have said a few times that states might affect spawns but I've never seen any proof. You could also say government types 'should' affect things - 'obviously' Opinion Polls would be rare in feudal / communist systems and common in democracies / cooperatives. There do seem to be some correlations with government types for some items - but faction states are quite transient and I don't think they've used them for that reason. When you look at OP vs settlement state it seems that other states than Election are better - most are around 10-15% (if you squint), and elections are lower than that 🤷‍♀️ . ofc most of my data is from offline settlements, so maybe online ones are different.

Don't think I've done this one for a while: the settlement type -> likelyhood.

ofc hides things like SCP relying on government. And is often just showing 'how likely is port type X likely to show up on settlement type Y' - so for instance Opinion Polls are most likely at Extraction and Tourist locations because they have the most HAB ports ...

I just hit the tourism settlements on Fullerene C60

Raided these settlements 3 to 5 times each (all of them have 6 HAB ports):
  • Bedi Inn
  • Kay Lodging
  • Bianchi's Serenity
  • Arsenauts View
  • Ibanez's Venue
  • Dovbush Leisure Resort

ZERO Opinion Poll, ZERO Smear Campaign Plans. Some Cat Media, Air Quality Reports, Cocktail Recipes, Culinary Recipes, Combat Trainin Material, Financial Projections. Lots of Digital Design (that I didnt take because they are alarmed) and Classic Entertainment

System is Anarchy - Boom atm

Following up on Zac's post:

Hey folks - definitely aware of low spawn rates on some mats - for Settlement Defence Plans you should really be looking in Dataports in Security rooms. The settlement difficulty and economy do make a difference to spawn rate but the other things (size / government) don't.
I thought I would look at drop rates based on the Settlement rating (L++, H+ etc), since the game has no obvious metric for 'settlement difficulty'.

In the following table the percentage is the drop rate per-settlement. If the percentage is '<' then I never found any SDP, so it's a rough indicator of confidence. The three numbers are <number of SDP found> / <number of SEC ports checked> / <number of settlements visited>. Rows are for the H/M/L ratings and columns are for the number of '+'. The numbers next to the row / column headings are the number of data points in each row / column.

For example from M++ settlements I found 7 SDP from 85 ports at 71 settlements (more ports than settlements as there can be multiple SEC ports at some).

I visited mainly locations that can spawn SEC ports (mainly High Tech / Ind / Military). Most were in the BUST state.

Takeaways :
  • Settlements with less '+' are less likely to have SEC ports present even when they can appear. Those without a '+' very rarely have SEC ports, those with 2 (++) mostly do have a SEC port. A single '+' seems to give around a 50% chance of a SEC port.
  • It looks like the best (but still terrible) chances are from H++ and M++ settlements. Both are around 10% chance.
  • L++ and M+ both seem worse, but I don't have enough data to say anything about H+

Anyway - needs more data, but slightly interesting (to me) :)

I thought I would look at drop rates based on the Settlement rating (L++, H+ etc), since the game has no obvious metric for 'settlement difficulty'.
There's the [Low/Medium/High Security] next to the settlements in the nav panel which affects the quality of equipment/health the guards have and the access level required for some areas. I military settlements have a +1 to the base level and can go up to 5pips of shields on High Security which should be the most difficulty the game can throw at you currently.

Regarding the +/++ things - there's only 20 or so layouts total between all the economy types and I think sometimes it's possible to tell the exact layout you get based on just that, other times it's a 50/50 chance of guessing correctly.

One thing I'm wondering about now is is if there's some hidden metric of how much the place has been robbed recently - I seem to get better loot (assets) on the first run (subjective at this point because I don't have any hard data)

Ok, I added a bit more data to the Settlement Defence Plans drops by Security level - since someone in another thread reminded me, so in case anyone cares:

tl;dr : If you want SDP from settlements than H++/M++/H+ are the top 3 in descending order.

Wow just finding this. Great info. Has there been talk of a collaborative effort where this data can be added to by the community? Or incorporation into one of the 3rd party data tools could be good, a “submit drop metrics” button that then pops open a form to provide the data that the journal doesn’t give, and then submits the data back to the main application database? Something like that.

Not that I'm aware of

edit: You wouldn't typically add any UI - abusing system chat is usually the way. I add local chat specifying the port I am scanning (and lately the Security level of the settlement). The comms messages go into the journals and that is enough. ofc then the way people scan ports would become an issue - you don't know if someone didn't find X, or just didn't download it, and telling if something was downloaded for a mission vs organically would be problematic.
