Odyssey Going Forwards

First of all thank you for keeping us in the loop and I myself fully agree that having fully functioning PC version is most important - so in this part you guys did very good decision.

As someone who has been working years in gaming industry myself I understand how hard it must be. But project should not stall when it comes with new content.
Sure the optimization is issue right now and I see it needs some hard adjustment, but we need strong content to keep the player base interested and hooked in your game.

Starting of Ship Interiors what were promised when Elite Dangerous was still running Kickstarter. It is major investment with time and development side, but it is what was promised.

Other than this is transparency when it comes with future content. It is vital and I can not highlight this more than enough, that FDev releases teasers on what is under the hood and with what company is working, even some concept art of initial ideas, what is coming into the game.
Playerbase is downhill spiral, not because of Elite Dangerous Odyssey (yes maybe little bit), but mainly because trust is lost. To gain the trust back, you should be more transparent.

Looking forward for the new content patches and updates from FDev.

This is excellent - precisely what Elite Dangerous and the Community need right now. Refocusing on Odyssey's core PC game will no doubt set up a compatible release for last-generation consoles and poise Elite for next-generation consoles nicely. Very much looking forward to the improvements! They'll help the VR experience as well with additional performance improvements - can't wait = ]

As a console player I am very disappointed with this. I hope when Odyssey eventually comes out for consoles the price reflects the fact it will likely be a 12-18 month old expansion.

If you are gonna treat us as a lower class of player and lower priority of platform then it is only fair to reflect that lack of commitment to us in the pricing of the game.
You feel a lower class of player because you're not exposed to a buggy release?

Abit late seeing this, but wanted to just chime in a word of thanks for this. Appreciate the communication that you are working to address the desires of the community and that you care.

Good luck! We are rooting for you to succeed (no really we do, despite all the shouting, your success will lead to a better game for all of us)

I'm glad to see this bulletin and want to be optimistic. I've felt pretty burned since May so I'm hesitant to get excited, but I appreciate what I'm reading and certainly hope it all pans out.

This is not about player class or levels, this is about a DLC that is not working as intended and it should be (in my humble opinion) re-writen from the ground up.

In any case console users may (with a lot of luck) get a better product (if you get anything at all) than what we got.

We, the PC players, were the guinea pigs. We are the second class players.

If you really wana have a horrible experience with Odyssey try it on a PC.

Good luck with the fixing stuffs. I am a little bit disappointed because I really wanted to play ODY on console but I did not pre order it so I guess this is fine. However, I do have the life pass on PC so I would give it a try some day. I was really enjoyed when you released the first infos.

However, I do understand why you prefer to focus on fixing the code.

My wish for the rest would be to keep some kind of devs feedbacks through discussion of so. This is always constructive to discuss the direction/State of some features with the players. Of course, we can't make everybody happy. Everytime or most of the time when you take a decision, some players with be left on the side. Or at least when the storm passed.

So I wish you and your team all the best. I am still hanging around anyway. And of course, we are all humans that have feelings and so.

100% agree on this. Its not right to expect a premium retail for what will be an old expansion. How about an exclusive best range fsd for console players since we will have to travel so much further to get a first footfall?

We are customers too so how about some good old customer service compensation for a bad service?

Elite Dangerous Odyssey is an important step on a complicated journey, and we must get this right [emphasis added], before we can consider moving on to these new platforms.

That is the most encouraging thing I have read from FDev since this debacle started. Braben seems to understand that the future of the franchise rests upon not just fixing it but on achieving what everyone hoped Odyssey would achieve.

So what does this actually mean for Elite Dangerous and Elite Dangerous Odyssey?

It means that we will see more game updates over the coming months. We will continue to work through Issue Tracker, fix bugs and improve performance, but we will also be able to explore and add additional features, content and improvements into the game.

Again, something that clearly suggests to me that FDev are committed to working Odyssey into the next Horizons (in the best sense). I wanted to hear that because Odyssey seemed poised to tip over into the dustbin.

Please remember that our team here at Frontier are working hard to support the game and our community. Behind every bug fix, design decision and community post is a person who cares a lot about giving our players best possible experience. I would ask that everyone remains calm and respectful when sharing their thoughts and feedback.

True, true. Of course, it goes without saying that your community wouldn't be so riled up if Fdev remained calm when deciding if they should go ahead and publish Odyssey in its abysmal state and at full price. Doing that was hardly respectful of the ED community, now was it? What goes around comes around.

We all have the same goal and we will get there, together. Please bear with us.

o7 Commanders.

I applaud all of the above, but now at last we come to it. Honestly, FDev hasn't felt like it has the same goals as the ED community for some time now. Will this travesty shock the corporate culture into something more amenable to the needs and desires of the community? I certainly hope so because I love ED because it occupies a unique niche in the modern space game scene. But we've been here too many times in the past for me to suddenly swallow that everything is going to be sunshine and roses going forward. I hope that is the case, but FDev has thoroughly poisoned their own well over the last ~18 months. You have to understand that if things are going to get better, anything short of a Hello Games/NMS style comeback consisting of regular QoL updates, bug fixes, and regular new content that the community actually asks for will not do. Once I see that level of commitment, well, then I might bring my flight stick out of retirement again.

If, just if, Odyssey can not be nerfed enough to work on old gen consoles, will us console users still be able to play Horizons on it's own dedicated server?
Or will that server be turned off when Horizons is merged with Odyssey for pc users?

indeed the basic colour varient of a suit skin for lots of ARX was never asked for, and felt a little trite

No, the console players are actually better off, as they will get the best game possible one day and don't have to endure the test phase. IIRC there was no console preordering even.

But the console delay has quite a different aspect too. Certainly, few of us would like to be in Braben's shoes now, having to communicate the decision to FD's investors and telling them they won't meet console release dates because of quality issues and the whole revenue plan shifting and so on and so on. Even if it may be the only wise thing under these circumstances, it's still a bold decision and definitely requires stamina, but he did it anyway. This definitely deserves respect IMHO.

O7,
The Lawful
