Odyssey is a macaroni picture.

I could ask why they released Odd without having that in place?
Sadly, the same question could be asked about all of the 'new content' being integrated into the Update series to date and to come. Odyssey was released in a very incomplete state, which was made much more ironic by the assurances from Arf that the released version of the DLC held 'surprises' that he didn't want shown before we had it on our machines - I'm sure he didn't mean dreadful performance and planetary tech a step down from that we'd been playing in the alpha!

Whatever - Frontier chose to release EDO as it was, have spent months patching and updating it, yet are currently a long way from performance expected by their own hardware claims. It is far from unplayable for me, other are less fortunate, and I like the content introduced by the DLC. So am not a "Doomster", but am currently questioning the incredibly slow 'progress' into getting the game playable for all of us.

That's a French Bulldog, not a cat. 🤦‍♂️
Praise be! For the august* presence of Brother Hat hath brought forth the tendrils of the State of The Game thread (TM) which shall lovingly envelope all other threads until the ED forums are a place of joy and madness.

* Yes I know it's nearly October.

I have played ED in VR for more than 2000 hours, which is a considerable amount of time (if it was a 9-5 job it would resemble a year of "productivity"). I love the VR experience of flying spaceships, and even though the future of VR in ED is "bleak", it's still a game (including Odd) that is supposed to support VR. I would be Comical Ali if I didn't see the writing on the wall, but this is one of Fdev's questionable claims that I choose to stubbornly believe, even when I read comments like "Go away old man" (yep, I mean you Ian).

That Fdev still haven't admitted that the release was premature, is despicable but equally expected. Likewise, that they continue doing more of the same. That does sound like "old man" crap to the young ones. I know. I was also young once, and contrary to most people at my age, I faintly remember :)

You should compare those 2. Both do fake surfaces with fake content on it.
While Ody tries to draw scientific accurate one, so it takes a lot of more processing power + it is something new and never done till now.
EDH is also based on science... it's simply an earlier engine.

Neither is Elite. ;)

I guess everyone can make up their own definitions.
That's just being pedantic. You know as well as I do that NMS isn't a space game in the same way that Elite is.

In NMS, the galaxy is just a backdrop. Players spend the vast majority of their time on planets. They collect resources, catalog creatures, visit POS's, and spend a lot of time doing base building. If you're into flying spaceships I don't see how NMS can possibly scratch that itch. And NMS was a complete disaster on launch. Only last year have they really recovered. And that game was launched in 2016! That means that, simply speaking, NMS launched 5 years too early (2021-2016).

Every single game involving space ships has a dramatic contingent of people. People call Elite "mile wide, inch deep". People call SC a scam. People called NMS a bait-and-switch (some still do). I'm not sure what people call X4 but I bet it's something nasty. Eve Online is a "spreadsheet simulator".

So setting aside all the pedantic definitions of what "space game/sim" actually means...

Nothing like Elite exists today. If FDev shut off the servers today then the only game I'd have to play is Star Citizen - and that's nowhere near done yet. X4 is mostly an RTS at its core. Evochron is built by one dude. NMS is base building on planets.

I feel the same way.

I can tolerate bugs and bad releases, but what really rubs me the wrong way is when a game markets one thing and delivers something else. The most egregious case was lighting IMO. There's another thread that showed marketing images of "red" planets and the current reality. That kind of behavior is so disrespectful to the community IMO. The bad framerates for mid-range computer is another example of that.

Do you honestly believe you can solve any potential problem by shouting "doom" or is it just a way of avoiding thinking about reality as a whole? What is it that you want to achieve with a post like that? Being funny? Keeping optimism alive? Support Fdev? Something else?

I'm asking seriously, because I do not know your answers. Thanks in advance.
It's mostly poking the bear. When you've been around for as long as I have, you see threads like this come and go...and they all say something to the effect of "this isn't a rant" and then proceed to rant, or "I'm not saying the game's dead" only to then, in as many words, say the game is dead. I would argue that my response and the OP are equally meaningless and unproductive. We all know the game's a mess, either offer constructive criticism to people who can affect change or faff around with some forum PvP. I chose the latter this time. FDev's gonna FDev, so either you buckle up and ride the oh so predictable coaster that is "each release breaks something and we know this, but eventually they'll get it sorted," or you shout and monger and hang around a forum for a company whose game you profess not to play. 🤷‍♂️

May I add that I like maccaroni? Like in Pasta? Or is that too doomy?

I wasn't trying to be doomy, I just had a wierd thought and thought I'd share. I don't expect it to change anything really. And I still play ED:H but I'm not excited like I used to be and FDev's comm strategy is just a bit insulting at this point imo.

Right here old chap, and I like macaroni!

Thus I decree, this is a dooooommmmmm bound thread, only needing more dooooommmmmm-sayers to make it worthy of stuphz opportunities.

We shall see if it succeeds...?!
Don't be like that!

The OP has already that they are apathetic...... a ...........?
