Odyssey is making me want to play the game less

I'm playing SC instead of Odyssey since Odyssey's gameplay is unplayable for me also.
I would really like to try SC, but because it's MMO only I have serious misgivings about handing them any money. Some folks tell me (like I've been told here) that gankers/ganking is not an issue. Then I've been told or read where the opposite is true.

Being a MMO only game, it's likely a mess in areas. But that's just a guess on my part.

I just purchased the minimum ship ($45) and use in game credits to buy additional ships.

TLDR: game is too difficult in general and makes me play less or not at all.

Let me begin by saying I am a huge fan of Elite Dangerous. I have logged many, many hours of enjoyment on regular ED and Horizons.

Odyssey is having the reverse impact.
I have been playing it for about two weeks now and a couple big things have come up.

1. is it just me or are the NPC ridiculously hard? I am not new to FPS games but dang, Frontier, this is some next level .
I just got done fighting 10 raiders at a settlement. I shot them with ALL of my ships ammo, to no affect.
Then I found out that you could kill them easily by ramming them????
so that's what I ended up doing?

2. I'm a big fan of the trading and mining and space battle grinding, but grinding all the items for suits and weapons is a little much.
calm down a bit on requirements and items for upgrades.

3. auto land feature is annoying and i turn it off.

overall: the addition of odyssey is a nerds dream realized; being able to fly around space and exit the ship on planets and stations!
however, the insane NPC level of combat resistance, overbearing requirements for upgrades and changing galaxy map interface are big losers in my book.
so much so, that I now regret purchasing the odyssey expansion and play less every week.

please, please, please, please, please frontier, do the right thing and fix these errors in judgment. make this game all it can and should be and I'll return.

ultimatly, games come down to one thing for me.....is it fun? well, the balls in your court frontier. do you want more money from me or not?

sincerly,

1: Dumbfires missiles, engineered for capacity if you can.

2: Yup.

3: Yup.

I have had amusing times in a dumbfires ship in a combat zone. The lag when the buildings pop in is real, but man so they all explode nice. Doesn't matter who you kill, you get paid.

I see the people blaming you for the insane, unbalanced NPC difficulty are here. =P

No, but this game is super DAAAAaaaAAaAAAngerous, get it? You dont even have to get the mechanics or scripted events right, you just make everything super dangerous and then tell people, despite how many hours they've previously put in, they "arent good."

The on foot NPCs are dumb. I've had enough experience with them now to be comfortable saying, they are dumb. Im not sugar coating this at this point, after this many patches.

Yep - can rain down SHIP BASED weapons on them, lmao, and they tank it like ships.
You can also have your smaller ships easily destroyed by them if they approach it and you dont get it in the air fast enough.
So the whole thing just turns into "rain down dumfire rockets from the air", and not really FPS action at all. You just jank your way through, instead of playing a believable space sim.

This is dumb.

all that assuming the game hasn't lost its audience until then.
Of course the hard core fans will stay no matter what, but those who just ditch the game in favour of a less grindy and more fun game instead of EDO are less likely to come back.
By the time the dust from this settles, the community managers and their sock puppet accounts will be the only people left playing the game OR posting here. :ROFLMAO:

This is dumb.

Is it dumb or is it a "multi-layered, tactical environment where Commanders, SRVs and starships converge"? /s

Exactly.

I keep going back to the original "be/do anything you want to be" marketing element of ED/ED:H, and wondering when I can be/do anything I want.
Right now, I get to pick a functional gameplay loop, if I have the patience to find one, and do that. That's what I do. Im finding transport missions fairly reliable right now, lol.

NPCs become fairly easy against G3 stuff... can't even imagine G5, you'll be like an engineered corvette in low space CZs.

)-: as a fellow space-nerd, I sympathize. Things could be better, that's for sure. I get under 10 frames per second Odyssey settlement content, and one day, I hope this will improve.

Until then, addressing your points

1. The only way I'm able to survive the NPC swarm is to be in my SRV. You generally can clear most security personnel from the srv, and then clean up the scientists/workers/etc with personal weapons (I find the grenade launcher works wonders).

2. Yep, you're right. This can be improved.

3. I actually like the auto-landing feature...until it gets its trajectory wrong and damages the ship, but it's easy enough to take control before this becomes an issue.
