Odyssey Optimization Needs to be Fixed

Odyssey's broken optimization needs to be fixed urgently.

I'm seeing that for me, even with above average settings, I still suffer from drops, freezes and extremely low fps in stations and settlements.

This is something that had to be focused on to be corrected, because in addition to alienating new players and even the oldest, it still creates a "bad reputation" for the game. And it's not just me saying this, it's the community itself that evaluates the game through Steam, Epic and other media.

In terms of content, immersion, fun and the like, I can't criticize ED: Odyssey, as the game and its expansion give me all of that. But in terms of optimization and problems currently existing, I wouldn't recommend buying the game to anyone.

One of the experiences I've currently had really put me off even playing it. After a group of friends (8 players) bought ED: Odyssey, in a few hours they all asked for a refund, precisely because they played ED: Horizon without any optimization problem and in ED: Odyssey it becomes annoying and breaks any experience.

He is right. The performance drop at bases, the frame times going to sh** its obvious. So you drop settings get it stable. Only to find a low res vr mess.
VRfps reveals all. Its bloody awful still.
To get it to run smoothly ie 11.1 90fps 90hz I've ended up at 44% steam slider and doubling it in video elite specific tab.
Ss .65 hmd 2.0
3070ti, 9900k, 32 gig 4266mhz, g2 reverb, ethernet conn.
Benched stressed etc solid pc and I'm at barely 2k per lense.
If I overclock I can raise it a tad.. perhaps .75 ss or switch on ambient occlusion or fx quality etc.
Fact is it should run better and it doesn't unless you have a really fast pc.
VR not pancake I'm talking about.

I cleared save and was appalled at how bad it was at the starting area. Then I went in and changed a setting and changed it back, and frames went up to 90 fps. It's all over the place. The aliasing is soooo bad, maybe I'm just noticing it more but it feels worse than ever. 1400p 64gb ram nvidia 2080 & i7 10700k

Okay, looks like no Odyssey for me. Good to know. Thanks, guys. (I do not intend to play ED in pancake mode. I could, obviously, but I have no desire to, and that clinches it.)

Impossible. Everyone around here tells me to update to Odyssey ("get with the times" they say) because it's so much better than Horizons.

They will not do it nor will it, many promises and no advances, literally on a station at 40 fps with lag, while SC on a planet at 30 but almost butter and the SC we know is more ambitious than this game, I love it elite but each update is worse, the 11 began to lose sounds like the engine of the krait mk2, now you shoot for a while with a plasma gun from a fighter and when reloading the gun stops sounding, it jumps more than before 75 fps at 60 which causes stuttering in the middle of a fight, before 12 it didn't make those jumps, each update worsens something but doesn't improve anything.
I am one of those people who wants war between thargoids on foot, that person who wants new ships, that person who wants the game that they promised so much 4x, but each update is worse, they insist on adding instead of fixing and then adding, I will continue playing because elite together with star citizen are the games that fill me the most because there are no others in this area, but if SC gets the absolute butter or another one appears, Elite dangerous will have very little time left, instead of fixing the performance they make it worse

It won't ever be fixed, engine can't handle the complexity of planet gen, structures and AI.

Either accept it as it is or move on.
My performance is about 90% there if I'm honest but I find it really weird the performance issues and trouble. Its the same engine the games run on just new assets so what causes so much of the problems? What did they change dramatically with the plantery tech

Would you please give some details regarding your system? CPU, GPU, OS, SSD or HDD, RAM (amount of, speed) etc.

Thank you. :)
CPU: Ryzen 7 5600x
MOTHERBOARD: Rog Strix X570-F Gaming
RAM: Corsair Vengeance Pro 32gb 3600mhz
GPU: MSI Gaming GeForce RTX 3060 12GB GDRR6
SSD: Samsung Evo 870 / Samsung Evo 970 Plus
POWER: Corsair RM850i

What changes is that they don't have a clue what they are doing, it is their engine and it seems that they are touching alien technology

When we see this kind of problem in games, we should put pressure on developers to solve them and I'm doing my part for that, not only here, but also through other means of evaluation and communication.

We have to understand that we pay for a product, so, like everything we buy in life, we don't want it to be defective or in half. Keeping the mindset of accepting things as they are only shows the developers that the public has no worries about the matter.

The game is made for the public to access (based on established requirements), where the developers worked to improve and solve the problems encountered.

There's no reason for me to ignore or simply forget that part of my time and money were invested in the game for it not to work the way it should be, that's belittling yourself.

We all live in social bubbles, that's a fact, but generally speaking, we already see a decline of ED: Odyssey mainly, where its ratings are constantly falling, taking Elite Dangerous along with it. It's no use for developers to want to build an infinite reality if they can't solve an optimization system.

Impossível. Todo mundo por aqui me diz para atualizar para o Odyssey ("acompanhar os tempos", eles dizem) porque é muito melhor que o Horizons.
I don't recommend you change it, keep it the way it is, as ED: Odyssey will sink on its own that way. So don't stay on this ship.

Ok, não parece Odyssey para mim. Bom saber. Obrigado rapazes. (Eu não pretendo jogar ED no modo panqueca. Eu poderia , obviamente, mas não tenho vontade, e isso garante.)
Rest assured buddy, I'm in the same process, regretting it after every update that focuses on frivolous, short-term stuff while creating this long-term bomb.

One of the friends I mentioned has settings close to yours and had the same problem. But man, the game is something special for me, playing every day for up to 6 to 7 hours. But I'm slowly giving up on ED: Odyssey, although the First Person Shooter issue is tempting.

Obrigado por esse problema específico e reproduzível. Algum detalhe?
Without any details, since basically the game itself is broken and fragmenting with each update that passes. In a little while, we can see that ED: Odyssey is a gigantic castle, but completely made of soft sand that will crumble with the wave :p

The lightning system and how each frame is rendered is different.
