Odyssey SRV entry animation?

ED does have these assets and has now made entering/exiting your ship a core activity. Ya know, the "Armstrong moment"? FD's words, not mine. Are there any other core activities we equally don't need to see? Maybe we can just teleport outside of the station instead of undocking? Maybe ships just vanish on death instead of popping?

Elite has cockpits. It doesn’t have assets tied to anything in between inside and outside.

Getting out of thing isn’t a core activity unless you consider transitioning from the menu to the game a core activity as well.
 
I distinctly remember seeing an animation of the SRV opening up and the steps under our feet folding down. Years ago. They are designed with disembarkation in mind, there are literal steps under our bloody feet.

So why the teleport?

FD committed to developing an FPS to bolt onto ED and didn't have time to get around to the spaceships part. Turns out that jamming an entirely different genre into a game is a pretty hefty workload.

Half the work is already done. I've seen the animation. Another animation of the pilot getting off is too much to ask for after 3 years of dev time? Especially considering the whole "Armstrong moment" gubbins?

It's not even a good FPS.

From the alpha i didn't had the feeling that FPS is bolt on ED.
More likely nearby ED... like a side story that is not related to Elite at all. Nothing that comes from FPS can be used in Elite.
Or so it seemed, i might be wrong.

Or maybe the release will prove me wrong - which would be great actually

I totally disagree with your statement, how is it possible that disembarkation may not be related to the stories of ships? we are not ships, we are pilots, your statement makes no sense, o7

Nah, I should clarify something. Getting in or out of the vehicle should ideally have some sort of immersive transition. Everybody agrees on that. It would be better than fade to black.

The main difference of opinion is whether it is important enough to sacrifice polishing on other parts of the game. I do not think it is. Knowing Elite I think that Odyssey will probably be very repetitive at launch unfortunately. So what I ultimately think is that adding everything necessary for a more immersive transition is a lot of work for what it brings to the table.

From all I've seen, EDO seems to be a major content island. Technically it's in the same universe, and the same server, but there is a huge disconnect between EDO and the base game. To the point they added Apex, so you can even remove the link entirely.

Hopefully, they'll add more stuff, so spacelegs is not a glorified SRV.

Oh and don't jump on me because we haven't seen everything, and perhaps all the nice interactions are all hidden right now. It's my opinion, based on what I have.
