ANNOUNCEMENT Odyssey Update 2021

That is the Thargoid Device. I discovered that the device is actually a three sided bust of the queen and the Omphalos Rift is on her chest. It confirmed to me what I hoped which is that Raxxla and other civilizations of guardians and goids exist in game and have since launch. The game is actually 10xs bigger than you think... literally your immersion is bigger than you think. You see there is something amazing in this game for those with the "eyes" to see. The Hunter Gaurdian is the Elite Dangerous logo. IN SHORT my main message is maybe some arent believing enough in fdev?
Oh, okay. Your explanation sounds kind of like when I miss my meds but I'm glad you're enjoying the game. o7 CMDR

Are you sure?
 Sure of what? That I'm waiting for a miracle? Why wouldn't I? I'm damn glad I waited to buy Odyssey seeing how broken it is. 🙃..That's $40 better spent elsewhere. Its a damn shame considering Odyssey was the main reason why I bought Elite Dangerous to start with. Never mind the gameplay, they had ONE job, to not screw this up with bad optimization, bugs glitches, and they couldn't even do that for me. We can't point the finger at how bad Star Citizen is anymore, lest we be hypocrites. The game industry is just taking big fat L's left and right.

😴

 Yeah, more or less everything you can do in a ship.

I'd like to see you power up a base mainframe, copy hard drive and get your gear back before any raiders find you in your ship.

Or disable base defences by knobbling both the controls and the hardware in your ship.

Or plant a virus in the production systems of another faction from your ship.

Or assassinate a VIP without alerting the authorities .. in your ship?

I should apologize for being poo, I do care for Frontier and Elite but I don't want to see Elite lose its magic! ✍ I most likely will still be buying Oddysey for PlayStation and look forward to when the guardian inverse fsd comes out a few years from now. Sorry Sir Braben for venting, its just that elite week on YouTube really thrashed the developers and got me ranting. Good luck Fdevs, tho you are working from Home! 👌👍

Hey cmdr there is more magic here than you think!

I've been playing since 2016 and no the bugs don't bother me because I see the potential and it's direction. Also the amount of fun and excitement I have tickling Thargoids over rides all of it. Is it smart though? Your still going to buy and play this game. Soon you will be streaming and posting photos to stellar screen shot talking about how much fun your having. But sure your opinion is valid and you know what's funny... They actually probably care about how they disappointed SOME ppl. o7
But dont care enough to bring out working content even after a beta but instead bring out a disaster.

"As with every era in Elite Dangerous’ history, we will be closely engaging with our community and continuing to react to feedback refining Odyssey through to the console launch."

Main issue with this disastrous release is FD did not engage "closely" with the community at all and feedback from players about wanting more input and once Alpha started about the many issues was ignored. There wasn't any transparency. FDEV have unfortunately gone more and more this way since Kickstarter (Kickstarter being the model of interaction they should have stuck with, or at least more open roadmap and Focused Feedback from rabid fans, imho).

EDO release has the hallmarks of necessary for the market financial results. The vaunted "market discipline" FD touted when going public has shown it's ugly side. If I were DB I would've kept the company private so I wasn't beholden to institutional investors and others looking for appreciation of stock price and then hitting revenue realization goals per quarter/half or even year would be less important. But then they wouldn't have gotten the huge cash infusion to grow. In any event, a release like this is something even investors won't like because it hurts the company reputation and prospects of future sales.

If they just labelled this release as Beta or early access and left Horizons untouched for everyone then it would have been better (although still needing a lot of work). And from the Alpha feedback including my own testing, that is clearly what they should have done.

I've made many posts about how FDEV could be more cutting edge and try to outpace the industry with community engagement / management. But it seems they have become victims of the standard corporate model out of fear or ease of working. The CM team seems to just be the sales team most of the time. Streaming a game-play session weekly isn't needed and is a waste of FDev money as hundreds of players already do that. FDEV should really focus on managing the suggestions forum and getting Focused Feedback and being more transparent and having an active forum presence. They would most likely be financially rewarded for that. As it is they are "making the game they want" and if the customers don't like it don't buy it; and as a private company that is fine if that is what the owner wants, but as a publicly traded company that is just stupid.

It's really bad isn't it. I was watching a vid Yamicks did and he mentioned the effect on the share price - these screw ups in development / release have a real affect on a company.

The damage done by Odyssey is even more far-reaching... Not only have Frontier damaged their own reputation (equivalent to NMS at first-launch) but they have now damaged the whole gaming industry. Indeed, I for one will now never pre-order any game marketed on Steam (a case once bitten twice shy). So it is not just the playerbase that Frontier have cheated out of hard earned cash, rather they have also cheated all other game studios of pre-order money. Hello Games (NMS) realised their mistake and then took remedial action by way of close communication and truthful listening to their playerbase. And then they brought out over a dozen massive and free game enhancing expansions. I doubt very much that Frontier will do that. All Frontier will do is 'fix' 20% or so bugs and then continue to sell ship kits and paint jobs to grab even more of our money. That's really all they seem interested in... How a company can go down the drain so quick.

I was stung by ordering Cyberpunk, whilst it wasn't broken on release I was quite dissapointed, I'm not a cyberpunk fanboi but to me it was just GTA5 in the future. I also knew from fdev's poor history of releases. I'll not be purchasing oddity or any ARX points until it's resolved (if at all).

🤣 Doesn't even look like he's standing in the snow, more like floating.
I made a post on suggestions thread about this (also long ago as it applies to ships in Horizons as well).
There needs to always be some sort of shadow around feet or other effect to make them look like they are on a surface, especially if it is mostly a solid color. This seems to be an issue in a lot of games I've played so I don't know if there is a good solution, but it isn't uncommon to see this weird look in games.

Odyssey, a long and eventful or adventurous journey or experience.

pilgrimage · wandering · journeying · peregrination.

ED Odyssey, a long and uneventful or boring journey or time sucking experience.
synonyms: Grinding, journey through quicksand, chasing your tail,
4th dimension BUGS and noodle style loop de loops.

Sorry, I don't have the time to experience this, Game ?, Work ?, Cluster dump ?
Hopefully, it will change, and become "FUN TO PLAY" like in the old days.

So for now, I'll diddle around, wait and see, until my interest dies from patience.
As my capacity to accept or tolerate delay, problems, or suffering without becoming annoyed or anxious.

🤷‍♂️ Sounds like your classic Elite Dangerous experience to me. Odyssey just takes this to on foot action, if "action" is even a word to describe it.
