ANNOUNCEMENT Odyssey Update 2021

But with the console development being suspended whilst Frontier get the Odyssey release out to PC for late spring it's not a particularly good signal to send to them.
It looks like console development has been sacrificed in favour of PC.
With the likely bug-fixing that will be required post launch, will the developers parachuted across from console to bail out PC be given back to allow console development to resume, and if so when?
Being charitible, Autumn 2021 is September, but it could just as easily be November.

it is a clear card marking of where Frontier value their customer base (and it isn't console)

Can you quote me the part where they said that the console development has been suspended please.

Indeed it is when a persons reaction is hyperbolic emotional waffle with little in the way of actual facts.

Also I have an xbox account :)

Me too, I'll probably buy it for that platform too, when it gets there. Indeed, the game looks and plays awesome on the Series S, on a 4k telly even without any specific upgrades for the platform.

I think the post in question had rather more factual content than this post.

Frontier have not covered themselves in glory with the consoles versions of Elite Dangerous recently. The saving grace is that Odyssey is scheduled to come to the consoles. Let's hope that doesn't change.

Console release – autumn 2021
After continued feedback, iterations and balancing, we are targeting our release on PlayStation®4 and Xbox One in the autumn of this year.

Thanks, Arthur. I know this must be a really difficult decision.

I don’t understand this sentence, however.

What “balancing” and “feedback” applies to consoles that doesn’t already apply to PC? They are supposed to be effectively clones of each other.

Any clarification would be appreciated.

Plenty of games companies allow pre-orders with no firm release date.
It's on the consumer as to whether or not they want to pre-order a game and if anyone is concerned then just cancel the pre-order and buy an Idris.

Sure, but many people wouldn't pre-order knowing they'll have to wait 6 months. Many, myself included, believed "early 2021" statement. It was "ok-ish" to keep the "early 2021" mirage until pre-order was launched. From now on, they have financial commitment, not just some random promise. Didn't they know in november 2020 that they won't be able to launch the game in "early 2021"? Or in december? No - they had to wait till the "early 2021" comes and a hypetrain is full of cmdrs. Hence the disappointment. They rip what they sowed.

Well ofc their little list of woe has some basis in fact but what is emotional waffle is their previous claims that the game has been shelved for consoles when in fact it has not.

A few things happened in Nov that probably meant they had to re-evaluate what they had planned on doing for the first three months of 2021.

If people are concerned that Frontier has their money for 6 months then cancel the pre-order and pick it up again when there is a firm release date.

Understood and supported.. easier said being a PC gamer, but I think we all want not only a good idea/design but also a successful release and a great experience. Pretty excited for Alpha access. Keep on keeping on o7

Or Frontier could remove the ability to claim first footfall until the console version is released?
Quite frankly, I couldn't care less about the tag feature in general. I have gathered a few of them of course, in the middle of nowhere, but even if I had first digs on any of the more famous bubble systems, meh. It's just bragging rights and even then, I don't even notice the names half the time (only if I'm out exploring and to see to what extent a system has been scanned already).

Reminder for you too, you can already in Horizon name tag planets/stars as first discovered / mapped by you, it will not change as Odyssey will have same systems and planets as Odyssey (outside landing on some and FPS).

It might at best go again so that planets in the bubble will have a reset on their discovery/mapping, but it would be like 3rd time, how much it is to you to get your name as a 3rd one to be "first" on already habituated planet?

Mikky, a few posts above yours nailed it perfect. I just got too stuck up on the 'first discovery' part in my own reaction.
But yeah, that pristine pristine experience of the new release is what the console players will be missing.

It's a blow, as many before with Elite. Nevertheless we love the game, devs and company. I'm doing some administration in a bit and then login back into the game and continue with the Heart of the Storm Expedition. Lots to discover out there in the black :)

Not to mention the massive unfairness of PC accounts grabbing all the 'first on foot' tags within the bubble. bad move guys. bad move.

Has there been any mention about "first landing by foot"-tag anywhere?

If things go as with earlier updates, even rest of the bubble will lose at update both "first discovered / mapped"-tags for good, as in earlier updates so many systems in the bubble did (you can notice though that tags are still common at edges of the bubble, in new systems that have been "colonized" by the humans since launch of the game).

How did you cope when Elite was released first on PC way back in 2014 and all those filthy commandos managed to tag thousands of systems before the console commandos?
