Odyssey VR specific bug reports - please contribute!

oh.my.god.

I just tried out the suit outfitting. The frikkin' weapons hover in front of my face, and I can turn them and admire them from all sides.

I know that this is trivial, but Frontier: I love you.

Edit: Also, not VR specific, but the skull bobblehead finally looks awesome.

Outfitting is still a virtual flatscreen for me - are you seeing it in stereoscopic 3D?

Which reminds me - holo-me still isn’t displaying the correct views for the face (it was originally bugged and massively displaced behind the player - the “fix” brought it back into view but still not in the correct position) and the concourse holo-me has half the controls cut off. Third time’s the charm for this report (hopefully 😁):
Confirmations gratefully welcomed 👍

Suit outfitting It is VR when opened from the crotch panel in the ship. I have not tried it from on foot terminals, but I would assume it stays 2D. Curiously enough, I visited Domino Green yesterday, and opening the suit/weapon mod dialog switches to a curved window in VR :).

Ha! I’d forgotten about it being available there 😅

I wonder if it’s a side effect of the shipyard camera getting fixed?

Probably. Not going to lie, to see the shipyard and suit outfitting properly for the first time in years made me very happy. As did the planet dots in SC. It's the little things.
I’ve just checked out the knee panel and I agree, it’s very nice to be able to view the weapons in full spin-round 3D. Hopefully the VR holo-me will get some attention in future to match the good-looking outfitting screen.

The properly scaling SRV on the radar scanner was another small fix that I welcomed - I’ve not adjusted the scanner range since Update 9 because of it.

Alright, so a few reports are coming in of people noticing higher frame rates. I thought I noticed this, too.

As soon as I launched after Update 15, I noticed a clearer image with less aliasing/jaggies. I attributed that to some sort of wishful, placebo effect. But the more I look at it, it does look better. I have not yet measured frames-per-second but it feels smoother. Anyone else noticed?

I did not measure it, and wishful thinking and placebo is well within the realm of possibilities. That said, my experiences since the update feels better. Less jerky, less stutters, more consistant, and I think I get ful l90 fps more often.

Cor, is it that time of the year already?
Fingers crossed this thread doesn’t make it to its Cotton Anniversary 😅
Happy Second Anniversary 😁👍

When I started this thread in 2021 I honestly didn’t think I’d still be maintaining it in one years time, never mind two! At least all VR problems seem to have been captured now - except the bugged holo-me, please confirm!

A quick count up shows 22 VR issues have been fixed in Odyssey so I hope this thread has been useful - and with a couple of fixes in Update 15 I hope that VR issues are still being looked at. View glitch and shadows, please FDev, pleeeeeeaaaasssseeeee! 😁

Hi all.

This is a longshot case and I might be just me seeing things. Starting with Update 15.01, and not fixed with 15.02, I can see a screen effect on against certain dark backgrounds, mainly on station menus. I can only see this in ED and it goes away when I quit the game and look at the default headset (not ED) menu. It's not there when ED is loading and I don't notice it during my regular play - though that doesn't say much.

Not that it's terrible or game-ending. It looks like my cmdr's visor shield is dirty. However, the marks are uniformly consistent up and down the view and not like smudges on a screen or glass. The screen effect moves with my head so it's not on the ED menu I'm looking at. Honestly, I thought my headset lenses were dirty and tried cleaning them but this did not help.

Sorry for the horrid description and not having a screen capture of it. Has anyone noticed this? FWIW, I'm on Win10 + all the latest fixes, latest Nvidia drivers, and a USB connected Quest 2 VR.

The only screen problems I’ve had with my Quest 2 were related to USB encoding:
…but this doesn’t sound like your issue. There’s also a problem with ASW on RTX 40xx series cards that gives a horrible distortion from the bottom of the screen like an angled fluctuating square wave.

Are you possibly just seeing the screen-door effect (which is barely noticeable on Q2) or mura?

Possibly, but I hadn't seen it before in 2+ years of Quest 2 use. Screen door look different, I can (barely) see that if I look closely. This one is really like streaks and smudges the lenses. Maybe I should try cleaning it again ;-)

It's not a big deal, case closed. Thanks! :)

I'm just happy the term "VR" was mentioned in the notes at all :) This is two updates in a row that included some VR element.

Seriously, the planetary ring fix will be very helpful. The issue of Comms chat text disappearing when you look at it, while already confirmed and simple to fix, was apparently skipped. Maybe next time.

I hadn’t read the website patch notes, just the forum post, so I was thinking it was a dry update for VR 😅

I wish the visually annoying bugs were higher priority but I’m glad the disappearing planet rings are fixed - and that zero-G cups now have lids 😁

Hi all. Two items:

1. Anyone here experiencing VR crashes after Update 16? https://forums.frontier.co.uk/threads/update-16-crash-on-launch-for-vr-commanders.618873/. I have not. I had my shadows on "low" already because I'm not a maniac setting them to ultra lol.

2. It's the placebo effect, I know it, but: I've played for a couple of hours after applying Update 16 and VR shows super clear, no stuttering, consistent 72 fps (I limit it to that), and even aliasing is reduced. Everyone's welcome to point out I'm caught up in a fantasy with this but would like to know if you've noticed any improvement.

FYI, I'm still running an old i7 9700K, RTX 3080 and a Quest 2. It looked fine yesterday but today is noticeably better - in my head (no VR pun) at least.
