Odyssey would be amazing if it had ship interiors.

Or our engineered ships! Of course the reward would have to be worth it, like a ship full of Frontier's special double-engineered modules.
That would actually be very cool. I highly doubt it would happen due to credit/game exploitation possibilities but being able to throw all and everything into a pot could get pretty intense given the right circumstances. Also probably Twitch gold given the right players and set up.

Hang on there now, didn't Han Solo win the Millennium Falcon in a card game? I would be in for that, my un-engineered Sidewinder against your engineered Clipper, let's get this done!

Ha, and folks say that I indulge in conspiracy theories. :) (fair play though, I do tend to theorize a lot)
I call them fantasy scenarios, but over the years, it feels more like a thing. I haven't tried Odyssey in VR yet, but from what I see, it seems like they've made the on-foot portion "flat" like that option you can have in minecraft. But in minecraft, you click a button, and it goes away if you want (its only there if the VR makes you feel a bit dizzy, etc). Why not have that be the same in Odyssey, other than some weird decision to reduce what the game can do? It can be seen as the big "c" word, but it could be a long-term marketting plan. i.e. save the best for last. (and its a bit of a hope, that that's what's going on)

I'd say possibly for balance/performance reasons and also the needed specific development to support the controllers, something that playing Elite in VR has, up to that point, seen no need to support. I played Minecraft in VR, it is actually really cool to be able to be VR present in the game but it didn't take long for me to turn it off as the motion wasn't great. When it comes to cockpit view vs onfoot motion, the dissonance between the physical feeling of moving forward in reality vs the game is harder for my brain to resolve and I never really went back to it to try to become adjusted to it. I think onfoot VR really needs something like this:

Now, if Frontier partnered up with these guys to co-fund/market full VR for Elite, that would be pretty awesome.

It likely has to do with instancing, which means they would have to rework that entirely in order for ship interiors to be possible.

I wonder if the problem was that the original design was a Wonkavator connecting the front & real elevators as they are now, and we know how ppl around here can hate on things not being realistic enough ;)
I have long since made my peace with the express lifts at stations crossing their paths. Enter at one side, step out out in the middle. I wouldn't mind fast-travel wonkavators on carriers. (I rarely visit the bridge, though)
