Engineers Oh, come *on*...

Haha, no it complains about that Cargo is ONLY transferred to newly bought ships :D

Hmm read that again, I think they complain that the cargo does get transferred, and not stored along with the ship. Oh well, I'll just have to go and test it when I get home ;) I'll just play hot potatoes with a ton of hydrogen fuel between my FDL and my Conda and see if it works.

Ah you're right.
Sorry :D Silly me :p

Hehe no worries. Oh and I see you fly a Conda. Do yourself a favor, get a huge MC for the ship. It's a riot :D I put one on my trader, it eats pirates for breakfast.

I need a sticker: "My second ship is a Corvette." xD
Going to build that up to full engineered once I have access to the mods :D

Well, I went to see Todd at Wolf 359, coughed up the 100k in bounties, changed one of my lasers to a 2f mc and and scrolled through the available mods and selected increased ammo, great, what the is cost? 2 mechanical scrap, available in space at unidentified signals, one vanadium, available on metal rich worlds on mountains that have black stripes on them and one electrochemical array found as debris from military ships in space or given as payments by certain groups for completing missions. OK, now I am in my FAS, which until yesterday was the king of the battle field and today is a overgrown sidey that has to turn tail after engaging three lesser NPC ships, with a shot out hull and malfunctioning modules. But I digress, back to the task at hand.

Now I have to re-equip my ship, get a vehicle hangar, buy an srv and go mining on a planet surface, I never mined, I don't care to do it, now I am FORCED to do it because vanadium is not sold anywhere. Then I have to go out in space and hunt through signals, after installing a cargo bay in my once-proud FAS, scoop up debris or deal with limpets to collect stuff and bring it all back to Todd, who must be laughing his butt off having everyone go on snipe hunts trying to gather all this stuff to pay for the mod. Because if you want to survive in the Brave New World, you better evolve.

Now for the best part, after gathering all the required stuff, you come back and dump it at Todd's place and he says, "Well, you now that there is chance that you won't get the desired results." "And by the way, these initial mods, they really don't do much, but as we go along in our relationship, I will give you, bit by bit, great stuff, you only have to spend hours and hours to get it all, but you know, you really don't need to do anything else in your life, right?"

I have combined assets of $400 million CR's, including A-class FAS and and A-class Python, I am over halfway to combat elite from deadly, broker in trading and rear admiral, so I have put in some time in the game, so I was looking to an improvement through Horizons, but now, they slip in another grind?

As they say in old Mexico, "Adios, muchachos, vamonos!" I won't be back until the GAME is FUN to PLAY, after all it is supposed to be entertainment.

Here's an idea - why don't we have a materials exchange/market for players? Take FD out of the loop, and do it ourselves?

It'll be like trading card swapping back at school.

You can't. Mats cannot be jettisoned in visible form like commodities. If you purge it, it disappears.

He kinda does. Even if he bought a Hauler and found where the Relics are for sale, he has no way that I know of to transfer them out of the Hauler into the Vulture. You have to obtain the commodities in the ship you want to up grade. I see no other way, unless I missed it in the change log.

Edit: It seems I did miss it and it is possible to transfer cargo from one ship to the next. Nothing to see here apart from an idiot eating crow. Sorry and move along. (Blush)
What? 2.1 Changelog clearly says that cargo will be transferred between ships, if there are enough storage. So he doesn't need to fly Vulture to Merope.

You missed the edit. I did not see that in the change log and admit I am an idiot. Sorry for ruining your morning.

I'm fairly certain you won't like this suggestion. You don't have to use your FAS, so you could always get another ship to do that stuff. But, if you're leaving the game I guess it doesn't matter. May we see you again when things are more "fun". Cheers.

The point of my post wasn't that I had to re-equip my ship and that I haven't had to get through tasks to achieve a goal. Heck, I've shot down 9k of bounties and combat bonds to get to halfway from deadly to elite combat and would probably have to hit over 15k to reach elite combat as you or many others may have done. That is OK, it is an achievable goal though, by no means, a small investment in time. If I wanted to, I could use my Python for the engineer tasks and it would be better suited.

My point is that the effort/reward to take advantage of the engineers, on top of everything else, is breaking the game IMHO, and sucks the fun out. I am an old guy who has enjoyed SF novels and movies, maybe before you were born, and have played PC games since the 286 CPU days. I have played naval, air, land, first shooters, race and many other sims on my PC and Play Stations. NONE of those previous games have required the time investment that ED requires you to put in even to be modestly successful, but I stuck with the game due to its current and future potential. Your definition of "fun" may certainly be different than mine , you may enjoy dealing with the "fiddly bits", however, "fiddly" is not fun to me.

If the engineer asked for 200T of Thorium, or 100k of gold, I can deal with that, just don't send me on snipe hunt for nebulous results. Believe me, I could accept paying with expensive but somewhat available items even for RNG results. So yes "fun", whatever it is to individuals, to me, is enjoyment, and from reading posts on this forums and others, I am not alone in voicing my concern.

OK, so...I've just sold my main Vulture for a Cobra (the closest thing to a long-range vessel at the station I was in), outfitted it with an advanced scanner to get my exploration rank up to Scout and stripped it of everything useful, and set Maia as the destination for this particular flavour of nearly-unobtainium.

Honked my way over there and hit Scout (thus getting the invitation from Felicity Farseer) when I landed at Darnielle's Progress. Currently on my way back to Shinrarta to put another Vulture together, and then I'm off to Deciat to see Flick.

All in all, I expect it to take a little over an hour or so.

Seems Darnielle's Progress is missing from my map. Any one have the planet and coordinates for me?

It's in the destinations as "Unexplored" on the nearest planet to Obsidian Orbital. Just approach the only destination on that planet and you'll get there :)

There's no soontil relics in Ngurii very funny you wast 3 hour and my mony it took 6 month to come up with this failed Engineers.

hmm and beta testers that paid you to test. Test fish well at least fish work.

Oh we tested it allright. Feedback was that it was damn near impossible to find the materials and stuff needed for upgrades.
So here we are...

Logic dictates that I need to go to Soontill for these things. That's 500LY. Several hours of mindless travelling.

No, they're supposed to be in Ngurii. Definitely not sold at Soontill.
