Oh well...I guess I'm totally finished with this game then.

Mm - maybe. But when you say "most of us" you really have no way of knowing if that is true or not do you? It may be - but then again, it may not. So probably not a good plan to make the statement, let alone wager on it, right? Since you can't actually know.

But I'm still unsure what you mean by progress exactly. If you mean the accumulation of credits and ships and the like, then I think you will find (and you should consider this also Aashenfox) there are a number of YouTubes around that can show you how to get to equipped and engineered anaconda in next to no time. So laugh it up all you want - but my statement stands and there is evidence for it.

For me (yes I am talking only for myself) progress means skill. My ability to play the game in the environment provided. Be a better fighter pilot. Be a better trader, explorer, etc. This is progress that you can never lose. You might get a little rusty if you quit for a while, but it comes back I suspect. And, again in my view, this is the only progress that actually matters. Gathering mats and so on - that comes naturally as a consequence of playing the game. Just do stuff.

But anyway, if you wanna be p...ed then fine, be p...ed. Seems to be a waste of energy if you ask me - and I know you aren't asking me lol. It's all good my friend. We are different people after all.

I can't say with 100% certainty that the majority would be angry at losing the stuff I had. Engineers is the big one. Unlocking them is a horrible experience. However, I'm fairly confident the very vast majority would be fizzing if this happened to them.

So I play on PS4. Tried to jump on tonight after a few months away. Save data is totally corrupt. I tried backed up data. Still crashing. So, as a test, i delete the save from my system (backup data still online) and launch a new game. Works fine so defo corrupt save file. Download the original save file and try launching again.....sidewinder and 1,000 credits. Somehow it copied over the online save AND system save (even though i switched off auto uploading specifically to avoid this).

I can't unlock all those engineers again. So I'm out. I'd offer you to haz my stuff...but I lost it all.
I was under the impression that the commander data is stored on the FD servers, corrupted data on your ps4 would only cause a loss of configuration and historic travel data, you've not logged in with a different PSN account have you? Alternatively I could be completely wrong as normal :D

I know it. You are in a STARK minority, probably of 1, who thinks it would bea 'fine challenge' to randomly lose one's entire playtime and cmdr. You utterly fail to comprehend that there are people who see the game differently to you, who care about their time invested, and you even try to make out that their opinions are in some way crazy (becuase hey, it's easy to get an Anaconda in 3 hours, right), when it's your position that is completely insane.

Well then by all means let me enlighten you!! I mean the accumulation of 4 billion credits (3.5 in ships and equipment and 500m liquid) for starters, now, ask yourself, if credit making were something that I enjoyed doing, why do I only have 500m liquid? Let me tell you, it's because I HATE the grind in this game, I HATE having to do pointless missions to make credits, shooting the same NPCs, over and over, hauling the same biowaste over and over, exploring the same copy paste galaxy with minor variations over and over. I don't even enjoy core mining that much....It is with GREAT relief that I log in every day and think that all I have to do is go find my prey, cos all of that stuff is way behind me.

Ah, I hear you say, well if you hate the game so much why do you play it? Well, I'll tell you!! BEcause I LOVE the dogfighting model, I LOVE the 6 degrees of freedom, I LOVE fighting other players who are also on the road to mastering the flight model. I'm pretty good too, I'll have you know! I should be after so many years.

In order to pvp at the level we pvp at, you need to...

Make a few billion credits, care to take a guess how long that will take? It;s taken me 4 years.
Unlock ALL the engineers (which are predicated on already gaining ranks with various factions and grinding various Elite ranks, as well as forcing me into gameplay that I don't want to do)
Fill up ALL my mats (maybe two months of non stop grind at 3 hours a day?)
Achieve Deadly in Combat (4500 kills for the average player)
Buy and outfit the 6 ships that I mainly use
Unlock the 5 powerplay items I've unlocked, which involve the exciting gameplay of simply waiting a month, so there's another SIX MONTHS right there (considering the one week in between each unlock attempt)

Now, if all of that to you sounds like 'it actually doesn't take that long', then you are playing the game in such a way as to MAKE it boring and not fun. I've unlocked all that stuff playing MY way, very rarely specifically went out to grind for anything, a bit here a bit there, and it was enough. Are you seriously suggesting that it's ok for someone to lose their save file and they should find it FUN to grind out all their ranks? Or do you think it's fine that it takes 4 years again? Choose which one of these patently bizarre viewponits you stand on, please.

This is exactly what you are NOT saying, don't you see the contradiction here? On the one hand you say it's easy it doesn't matter and on the other you say 'no, don't grind'...You are obviously suggesting that it's no big deal to grind to the point you were at before.

But anyway, if you wanna be p...ed then fine, be p...ed. Seems to be a waste of energy if you ask me - and I know you aren't asking me lol. It's all good my friend. We are different people after all.

Of course he wants to be p**sed! Only a total robot wouldn't be.

I am a little triggered, for which I must apologise. The time I have in this game...the things I've achieved. Imagine being wiped out...there's NO justification, that's why I'm triggered, I hope you understand, not personal and no hard feelings.

Go on, imply I'm wrong again about the way I play MY game, I dare you.
You don't need that much money, or all the engineers unlocked, I don't mind the mat grind I enjoy having projects but on everything else I fully agree it's up to the player to make the game fun. I did this after loosing everything due to having 300k instead of 7m for the only ship I owned

They will not be able to restore your previous CMDR but they could unlock the engineers, restore the credits and refill your materials on the new CMDR but you need to provide the info about what you had before.

Support told me they can give credits but not unlock engineers.

Oh come on now - I never said any of those things and I even tried to make it clear that I realise it is only my view. And I even said that I realise everybody plays their own way. Totally unreasonable accusations my friend. I take issue only with unjustifiable assumptions, and then I did a little soapboxing on the term "progress". I realise that you got triggered but that's your own doing - as I see that you realise. And I do not think it would be a fine challenge to lose all one's stuff and I never said so, nor do I believe I implied that. You are seriously misreading me. I've lost stuff. Not everything, it's true. But I've lost big stuff through the gods of randomness. And I was pi....ed - for 5 minutes. But I remembered why I play and was back at it in short order. I didn't toss my toys and quit the game - and then go online to tell everybody about it.

Have you tried shouting at the sky really loud while in your knees. “ Why me! I did everything right, WHY ! “

Flimley

Don’t forget to shake a fist at the Heavens too. For real emphasis you could also start thumping your fists on the ground as you wail, like I saw those North Koreans do in the street when their previous leader died.

Kim Jong Khan?

If you lose your stuff through a game bug then yes, you absolutely should go onto the forums and get advice (or 'tell everybody about it' as you phrase it). And having a bit of a rant is entirely understandable, especially if you have a significant time investment in it.

The only engineer I found a real pain to unlock is the one who you have to mine 500t of whatever it was.

Might be wrong but I think it's 500t in total, and it can be anything (or even lots of different anythings).

Edit: Selene Jean - mine 500t of ore.
