Oh well...I guess I'm totally finished with this game then.

What options do you have that we don't? I can back up and restore my locally saved data, just like you, but my CMDR data is stored on Frontier's servers. Surely yours is as well. If his CMDR data is gone, I fail to see how a PC would give any advantage over a console in getting that data back.

Because, as I understand it, that data is validated against the log files Elite makes. If those become corrupted, things like restoring from a Shadow Copy can correct it. Worked wonders back in the Engineers beta when the wrong mods were applied to the wrong modules and we couldn’t log in at all. Try that on a TV toy.

The same thing reading the OP does. Poor fellow’s playing on a PS4 where there just aren’t options.
There are plenty of reasons to game on pc over console.... And some reasons to game on console over PC... But losing your game save is NOT indicitive of a weakness of consoles .
Btw I lost my save on sleeping dogs on PC. Had I been on console I would not have lost it as pc is only one without cloud saves.

Firstly, this is something that support should easily be able to fix. Explain the exact situation to them, provide as much detail as possible, and wait for their response before flipping out.

Secondly, while I agree that most of a player's progress is in the form of self-contained experience, the CMDR data is still important. Our CMDRs do not exist in a vacuum and in-game assets (everything from unlocks, to faction rep, to map data, to equipment, materials, and even credits) matter with regard to what our CMDRs can do in the setting and limit or enable our ability to manipulate the setting. Save data and this sort of progress is not trivial. My CMDR is currently engaged in a multi-front BGS war and losing all of his assets, in addition to effectively killing that character, would set back these goals by months, at the least.

I was under the impression that the commander data is stored on the FD servers, corrupted data on your ps4 would only cause a loss of configuration and historic travel data, you've not logged in with a different PSN account have you? Alternatively I could be completely wrong as normal :D
Yeah, this is what I found kind of confusing about the OP as well.

Who knows what kind of silly proprietary on-line/off-line systems the PS4 has though, so I wrote it off as wall garden console funny business.

So I play on PS4. Tried to jump on tonight after a few months away. Save data is totally corrupt. I tried backed up data. Still crashing. So, as a test, i delete the save from my system (backup data still online) and launch a new game. Works fine so defo corrupt save file. Download the original save file and try launching again.....sidewinder and 1,000 credits. Somehow it copied over the online save AND system save (even though i switched off auto uploading specifically to avoid this).

I can't unlock all those engineers again. So I'm out. I'd offer you to haz my stuff...but I lost it all.
I had a similar problem, did you get a blue screen with a PlayStation error code CE-34878-0.
This has only happened to me since the PS4 system update a number of days ago.
If you google the error you will get some instructions on how to deal with it.
First of all though remove your power lead for about 30 seconds then restart, this flushes the PS4 cache and can solve this problem.
Good luck

That's the one. I tried flushing the cache.
As above, Frontier fixed the issue :).

Do you have to redownload it from frontier store or ps store, I don’t see it there......
Should be in PS Store, easily found in your Library folder.

This really should not have happened... Forgive the stupid question, but you are logged in under the right account, yes? The fact you lost your CMDR from Frontier's servers and now can't find ED in your library (which tracks all games you own on PS Store regardless if they are installed) sure feels like you're disassociated with your PSN account..

EDIT - Ooops, confused you with OP. Nevermind!

Is the issue not most likely a local corruption of the data on the console which is then uploaded to frontier's servers? Then both have the wrong data. The only fix presumably is for fdev to recover from their end as they likely have backup player state data.

See - this is the sort of attitude I don't understand. There is no progress as such in this game. It's a sim - sort of - like flight sims and such. The object is just to enjoy the experience. So you lose some stuff - so what? So you have to engineer again - so what? You will be playing the game to do that and that is the object of the game - to play it. There's no competition to win. There's no leaderboard, or prize for the winner, no end game, none of that. You play it for the experience and when the experience becomes boring you leave it for a while. And if you end up starting your run again from the beginning - so what? You're playing the game and that is the purpose - there is no other.

And besides, it actually doesn't take long to do it all again now that you know how. In fact, it actually gives you a goal and something to work towards. An additional reason to play.

Anyway, of course everybody plays their own way and for their own reasons - I'm just sayin' - I don't see the problem. Just play the game as you would have anyway and you will find that suddenly you are back to where you were when it all went bad. And probably had some fun in the process.
Because it's a game of progression and even if there is no real end game there is a feeling of progress. The progression is to get to the type of gameplay you want which is locked behind grind walls. Yes that's real. Losing all of that is a feeling of losing progress. Why would you pretend that doesn't exist and if that's okay with you why do you make any progression at all, why not just sit around and stare at randomly generated planets?
