OK, let's settle this. What is THE best paintjob?

How could I forget this one-off:

Not Xbox. I was fortunate to be the winning auction bidder. A little introduction is sometimes required.

It was Christmas 3302... the ‘Special Effect’ charity auction in the Sol system, as part of the 'Festive Fun and Charity Livestreams' events that year.

"a custom, one of a kind, special unique paint job. You will be able to work with our paint job designer to create something custom and unique for you”

The initial concept was 'St. George & the Dragon' and was for my favourite ship, the Imperial Cutter.
Tjaart Kruger and the Frontier team did an awsome job.

Yeah that is one sweet paint job and as I said would have paid up for that . Thanks @Darwin . And shows what could have been achieved in Paint jobs

There were some you got for turning up at events that some of us living at the opposite side of the world never got a chance to get. Not bitter or anything. 😛
I think you're thinking of the Lavecon paintjobs?

It's an exclusive paint job only issued by Frontier normally to content creators. I've seen Malic_VR use it.

EDIT: I don't know for certain how it was obtained.
It wasn't strictly to content creators either, they were just special paintjobs that Frontier could hand out as prizes or rewards.

I can't actually remember how I got mine - I think it was either for organising a Buckyball race night that Frontier took part in as one of their official livestreams or else as a prize for coming 2nd in the stunt show livestream they did.

The funny thing about this is the Chromed/Golden were introduced because initially the Chrome/Gold looked a bit naff. Especially the Gold, it used to look like the gold painted furniture you see sometimes. Lo and behold, some visual reworks later and the original ones look amazing and the imposters look a bit dull. As it should be I guess, though now the originals are rare prizes. 🤷‍♂️
To me the originals didn’t look all that naff, well not the gold, just a bit understated.
When they introduced the replacements, giving us a free copy to match the originals we had, I thought the new ones looked like the shiny plastic version you see on cheap trophies rather than metal.

I really wish I had bought more of the originals.

There was a very nice unique Cobra MkIII paint scheme based on the Vulcan bomber - it was given to a high-tier KS backer in lieu of one of their rewards - which I cannot find any pictures of 😅

The best paint job of course is the Cobra with the shark’s teeth smile but unfortunately that hasn’t made it from FE2/FFE so come on FDev and get it sorted! 😁

Pirates had that at one stage. Pirates had some amazing skins that put many of the ones in the store to shame. Really wish I'd taken some pics.

The Stygians are definitely my #2, they are awesome. #3 probably goes to the... are they called Iridescent? paints. Those are really good too, I wonder when or if they will make a comeback.
I've been waiting for these to come back for like... two years now? I remember they had at least three changing colors. One style was called "scorched" or sth.

I'm actually a fan of the Squadron Red PJ, and the Squadron set overall, they have a similar visual style to the rebel ships in Star Wars IMO.

Here's the blue;

Yes, these are among my favorites, the Black Squadron with red highlights (Shadow?) features on a few of my ships. It does give them a Star Wars vibe and the Krait in particular looks quite Millennium Falcon esque.

Still sore about that one - as I said at the time, they could have raised far more money for Special Effect by putting it on time-limited sale with proceeds going to the charity than by making it a one-off prize in an auction.
I have to apologise then. Here's the story about the cow print paintjob (I am sure you know this, but maybe some don't).
As you said, Frontier put it up for auction during a charity livestream for Special Effect (a charity that helps disable people get into using computers and gaming).
A friend of mine and of many in the Elite community, Psykokow, bid to buy it, but he was outbid because a group of us who were friends with Psykokow grouped together and as a group we outbid him and won the bidding for it, just so that we could gift it to him anyway.

So I was part of the reason you didn't get it .... I'm sorry (#NotSorry).

Here's mine: The Frontier 25th Anniversary Paintjob, only available on the Cobra MkIII and only if you were playing in Frontier's 25th anniversary year (2019). It is not available to buy.

BTW, I realized yesterday -- this PJ isn't quite that exclusive. My Epic Alt has it, and I only have that account since, well, since Epic gave the game away back in Nov 2020.
I'm not sure if my Steam Main also has it; I think I started playing that in Dec 2019. I can check later.

The best one is definitely the Medusa

Out of competition, but this one must be one of the most exclusive ones, even though it is still on sale. Never saw this ingame. It's named 'Flash'.
The second best one is Flash :) I always dismissed the Vulture cause of only having two hardpoints, but when I got one on my Alt account I immediately brought the paintjob

I do love the Lavecon paintjob on my Chieftain

But third place goes to this classic on the Eagle (available on others as shown earlier)

Aye I remember it well. I don't have any issue at all with the fact a given individual got it (just to be clear), and I'm sure the uniqueness of it boosted the eventual amount paid via auction - it was more that however much you all chipped in for it, I can't imagine it was anything like what they could have raised from a time-limited sale open to all. It was the decision-making I had an issue with more than the outcome.

Late to the party, but here's mine.

THE BEST LIVERY OPTION IS THE AEDC DECAL.

This was only available for a limited time to members of the prestigious and venerable player group: Alliance Elite Diplomatic Corps.
Before GROM was put in the game there was a trial called "The Rise To Power". The top 5 most-expanded BGS groups, and a wildcard entry decided by popularity fought it out to become a new power inserted into the game. Each player group that was eligible for entry (out of hundreds) received a limited time decal. Even new AEDC members don't generally have access to this decal.

AEDC remain one of the most developed Background Simulation Groups and are still active and growing.

This decal is super rare: limited to veterans of a shadowy group of significant capabilty.

For the ALLIANCE!
