I'll be regularly buying vanity items such as paint jobs etc

Not because i think they are great value for money (though i do consider them very cheap) but because i want to support the project.

I voted yes, having one wouldn't hurt or affect anyone and it's infinitely better than P2W.

Yes It wouldn't hurt us but It would hurt the image of their company. Like I said there is plenty of option already if you would like to contribute more financially.

Why are some ppl so concernd about FDs business? Cant you wait untill the game released?

This.

The game hasn't even been released yet, most of the people I have spoken to will not buy it until after release, they do not want to test the game. So I imagine there are many other people with a similar mindset.
Then the DLCs or beta DLCs will be released eventually - one being FPS which will no doubt open the doors for avatar cosmetics and the like. All will be another source of income for FD.

If FD need help then they will ask. And to suggest added donations would "speed up" development is unfounded as other titles of a similar genre are not an example of this, without naming names.

More money != faster development. You only have to look at Star Citizen for evidence of this, they have a huge amount of money yet they're not even at what they themselves would consider an Alpha stage, 2 years on from the initial funding of their Kickstarter campaign.

As Robert Maynard points out, If people want to donate then they can always buy skins from the store even if they have no intention of actually using them in game.

Agreed - more money can actually over shadow shrewd and prudent thinking - building a small highly skilled and motivated team of the right stuff is better than having armies of 'don't really care just here to make money' workers.

One of the reasons why I dislike the idea of funding a game by means of vanity items, is my experience with SOE's PlanetSide 2. It started out as a high quality military shooter MMO, but ended up looking like a silly parody of itself. Now most of the soldier characters are running around in garish neon-colored armors with cartoonish patterns, or driving equally goofy-looking vehicles while honking their ridiculous-sounding horns. Immersion ruined.

That being said, I doubt that FD will follow the example of SOE. The developers seem to care deeply about maintaining aesthetic and immersive visuals. Still, I'd prefer for the game to be funded by subscription fees so that there won't be such a strong incentive to create mass amounts of vanity items. The vanity items won't be as noticable in Elite, though.

Ok, it's clear that no one (or very few) is willing to pay a fee for some features in more or speed up their release process. I ask at FD to put a Donate Button (paypal) in your internet site where those, who want to, autonomously and without imposition, may contribute to the development of the game.

It does not hurt anyone, who wants to do it is free to choose...

Do not forget that Elite: Dangerous is not just a game, it is a product of scientific valence , is the best virtual representation of our galaxy, ...this will have to be updated periodically based on new knowledge and new discoveries, ..for favor FD, allow those who want to contribute to development of this fantastic project!

What can we lose? .... we can only gain! and if goes wrong, doesn't change anything ... but we certainly can not lose!!! It's just a personal choice, why deny it to those who want?

EDIT: some one report "buy in store to donate! " but i you remember :It is not just a game. There may be people totally uninterested for skin or keychain but concerned only the scientific side .... why not allow it, if they want, to make a donation?

If you want to give Frontier money (because you have too much I assume) then buy stuff off the cash shop like shins. If you've bought it all then buy another copy of the game.

Only those against the idea of a donation button and would never donate anyway, are pushing this view of 'failure' and various other analogies to stiffle popular support for the idea or fobbing us off with 'use the store'.

Once again, if you like something. Support and fund it. More ways are better than just a store.

Shok.

I undestand what you are saying, but I think in the long run it would damage FDs reputation. Right now I could not name one sucssesfull company which accepts donations (not talking about Kickstarter or donations for charity)
Imagine a big company would ask for donations, what would you as an inverstor or potetntial costumer think about that? Sorry but this is a really bad idea.
Cosmetics/merch shop is the best alternative I could think off, its not p2w, lot off ppl will buy skins, bobble heads, shirts etc.

Having a "flashing donate" button on the front page of a company who already have a working online store with goods would look really bad and would hurt their image. And you are right I woud never donate if there would be an option because that would be ridicilous to choose when I can support their company buying their game multiple times or any other items from the store. I have already bought skins for full price 15+ after one of my happy game session because I felt this company deserve more than I have aready give them by buying beta1 I didn't feel I need skins for my ships at all (I had been playing solo and I would see it only at outfitting anyway) I just wanted to contribute("donate") more.

Edit: Donation is usually working for individuals or small teams who produce free softwares and not a "big company" like FD. (kickstarting is kinda donation btw :))
